I live near Pet City and it is located in a central area for Lutz. They have many different types of animals and reptiles with friendly staff for the most part. Their fish area has several types of fresh and saltwater fishes. From birds to bunnies, food to fun toys this store is has more that it size suggests. The only real problem I had was with the manager, at least that is who I think he was. He was not very knowledgeable about the nutitional needs of large puppies and suggested that because I was not feeding my puppy lots of protien that I would cause her growth and health problems. I went to the store to buy food that she would eat because she is so picky with allergies and want to her to put on some weight (she just had a vet visit and is not unhealthy). This is just not true and it has been proven that high levels of protien can increase the growth process and cause hip dysplasia. He continued to compare his dogs experiences to dilute what my vets and breeder have told me. His lack of knowledge regarding other breeds,including his own dogs breed, concerned me as his facts where not accurate and the staff started giving me looks. I am in the medical field and believe me, I look things up and research before I open my mouth. I just wanted to buy some dog food. I dont need a debate or have someone make themselves look big by making me look small. This store has great potential and I have never had a problem there before. I would be leery of referring anyone there because of misinformation that could be given.Your animals life depends on responsible sound advice and Im just not sure you would find it at Pet City.

I have spoken to the staff their a few times now and today was the worst. I am so angry. I buy Innova cat and dog food there and every time I go in the price is higher. The cat food started at $14.99 today it was at $20.99. I kept the bag my cat just finished and the price is clearly written $19.99. When I mentioned it to the manager, Mike, I believe his name is. He said the prices only go up three times a year b/c of the brand increasing their prices or some BS. Thats the exact same line his other staff gave me last month when I was there buying my pets food and questioned it. They are all clearly told to say the same crap. After a few months of realizing their prices kept going up I switched to Chicken soup for the pet lovers soul for my dog’s food. At Mikes advice “because it’s comparable food at a better price”. That started at $7.99 and is now at $12.99 but again the same excuse as to why. He and another sales person sat there arguing with me that the prices only increase three times a year. So you’re trying to tell me that I only buy my yorkies dog food and my cat food 6lbs bags of food three times a year ..........UH I DON"T THINK SO!!!! They are the absolute worst store ever and I will pray every day that they close down. There are much better HONEST businesses that deserve the space and customers. I am happy to say that as a loyal customer of theirs since they opened. THEY BLOW! AND I AM NEVER RETURNING!

Simply put, dont go to PET CITY!! We purchased a hedgehog, everything was fine but then my son developed an infection due to the hedgehog. Come to find out hedgehogs carry a specific type of fungus thats dangerous, especially to kids. Weve ended up with thousands of dollars in medical bills...I contacted the store owner, Tam, and the manager Mike. Tam, was rude and the communication barrier made it worse. He shouldnt be in any business especially something where he has to communicate. Mike offered store credit....I just want $135 back to give my son to put a smile on his face...instead of all the medical problem weve incured. My son is 11 and worked hard to save up his own money and has nothing but a massive infection to show for it. The store owner/manager could care less. They said you could have gotten a turtle and ended up with salmonella. I DIDN"T GET A TURTLE...I got a hedgehog. Nowhere does it say you could get an infection from it. Word to the wise, DON"T GET A HEDGEHOG...THEY CAUSE FUNGAL INFECTIONS.... ITS CALLED TRICHOPHYTON.

I wish I could give them a negative 3 stars. The service is the worst ever. I have bought several animals from them along with supplys and I will no longer! I would rather pay more! The staff have no clue what so ever about any of the animals. I asked them how often do I give it a bath the girl replys with never they clean themselves! FALSE Then I asked what type of food do i need to get is this one ok she said yep and the animal will not touch it so i come back and ask them he wont eat it why she said well bc hes trained on the food we give him you should have bought that! well shes the same one who told me to buy the other one so have another bag of food he wont eat and had to get the other one. they wont refund since its open of course! I also bought a light that was within the 30 days and broke go figure so i try to return and they argue with me that it is past the 30 days when it was on the 30 day mark. clearly they cant count. WORST PLACE TO EVER GO!!

honestly i love this pet store. the only incident that happened was my wife n i bought some ferrets. I got sick autoimmune disease. so it caused me to b out of work and we could not take care of them. i called to see if i could do some type of trade in or not, they said no. had to rehome my babies. ever since that incident they seem to not like us buying fish n has told someone that was trying to rehome her kittens and i was going to get one and they told her about how i couldnt take care of my ferrets..so i didnt get them n the lady lied to me. i still buy all my fish they live well if u kno what u r doing u can tell if one is not doing well before u buy it u just have to keep going till u see that one..i have 3 tanks all filled with fish from this store and all do great. btw the manager may not speak English well but hes nice and he does what he can he and he love us buying fish lol..

So i walk in to buy some shampoo for my dog since he is rubbing up against something that is irritating his skin. Sign on door says, "Cash Only. We are working on the machine." Ok, no problem, these things happen. I get stopped as soon as I walk through the door by a woman wearing small, round glasses. "Do you have cash?" "No Maam, but...," "Then im going to have to ask you to leave." "I cant look around because I dont have cash???" WTF??? "No problem, youll NEVER get my business." She attempted to touch me and state, "Thats not what I meant." In what country does, "Then, im going to have to ask you to leave," mean anything different????? No WAY will this place get a cent from me or any of my dog friends. negative stars from me for service for sure.
