Oh CoHi Giant, why cant I quit you?! The pros: Its convenient and cheap, and they have great international aisles with harder-to-find ingredients. The cons: Where do I start? The produce section is abysmal. The onions are, without fail, inexplicably rotten with flies buzzing around them, they are usually out of lemons (!), and most of the veggies are limp and nasty looking. The meat section always looks like theyve just announced the second Snowpocalypse and everyone and his brother has made a grocery run to stock up; its pathetically empty almost every time I go. They are regularly out of the protein I intended to cook, causing a mad Top Chef brain scramble to figure out what else I can make with the ingredients Ive already (moronically) put in my cart. Slow clap. The lines...well, hopefully you have a lot of time on your hands. Ive lived here for 8 months now, made a scientific study of it, and concluded there is simply no good time to go. Bank on a solid hour when you need just 2 items. Also, if you bring your own bags, avoid the self checkout. Those machines hate your kind, and will interrupt you every other item so that you have to wait for "Assistance" that is ostensibly "On the Way," but will take 5 minutes to show up, in the form of a surly clerk who will glare at you menacingly while swiping the magic card that allows you to continue. On second thought, just get in your car and go to the Petworth Safeway. Its so much better, and wont make you cry.

Giant WASTE OF TIME. No matter when I go to this Giant there is always an inordinate wait to check out - every single time. Youd think with the amount of business they do here they could hire enough people to check you out in a reasonable amount of time, but it is NEVER the case. If I didnt live two blocks away from this place, I would never go there. It is only the convenience of the location that keeps my business and nothing else. If you can avoid it for any reason, I advise you to do so because its always picked over, crowded, and a long wait before you can get out of there. On a positive note... They do have some better products and selection when stocked than some comparable places and the employees are generally polite for having such a mass of customers there all the time.

This place cant be right...it just cant no matter how you look at it. The store seems bright and stocked but the employees...wow!! I stood in the check out line while the cashier, a young African American female, was checking out my items and talking to a person who was bagging for her. From her uniform I assume she was superior in rank to the cashier. You should have listened to their conversation. Unbelievable!! The cashier was saying how her "old man" treated her and how she got pregnant from him and other things in details. I COULD NOT WAIT TO GET OUT! For Gods sake, we need a decent grocery store in Columbia Heights. Where are Harris Teeter or like when you need them?

This morning I went to buy onion begel, but there was another ecept onion. With education and respect I approached a person who apparently works in the bakery area, and asked if they had more begel in the back. And she very bluntly replied that no. And I asked her again if she knew if they would have to in the afternoon. Very annoying and with bad attitude answered me.That there was nothing, and that she would not see. Please, I hope that the management of the giant can read my opinion and may in the near future improve training for employees. For they leave much to be desired with the rudeness they show to address the customer.

I much prefer the Shaw location... this particular GIANT always has long lines irrespective of the time of day. It never seems to have enough people working.... or shelves stocked. When somethings on sale, youre probably not going to get it because the shelves are EMPTY. ALL THE TIME? Is ANYONE doing any studies on this, dont they know that their DEMAND IS TOTALLY OUTWEIGHING SUPPLY. PS. Demand for Sangria in the summer is higher... keep some on your shelves ;) Perhaps we need a LINE CAM, so that people can monitor whether its worth it to run to GIANT... with this one, theres no such thing as a "QUICK TRIP"

You cant find a good onion here to save your life. Literally. Never. The rest of the produce comes straight from the bottom of the truck. The meat counter is non-existent, and you will find that the prepackaged meat is half frozen half of the time. Forget about finding any non common item, and plan to stand in line for at least 15 minutes. Ive lived in Columbia Heights for 2 years and have never had a satisfying experience at this place. For other options in the area, try Panam Market a few blocks down 14th street, or just take the bus for ten minutes to get to Trader Joes or Whole Foods.

Customer service in store is poor. Staff needs training or retraining in providing excellent customer service. Many times cashiers carry on conversations with co-workers rather than interact with customers or are curt when responding to inquiries. I do want to commend a staffer named Ellen who works the overnight shift. She is a jewel. Always has a smile & a kind word. She is knowledgeable & efficient. Giant needs more employees like Ellen & fewer of those who often act like we are a bother.

I had a little trouble at the self-checkout I bought 4 boxes of cereal Honey Nut Cheerios and was supposed to get a gallon of free milk worth up to 4:50 I had to battle with the clerk first off it did not deduct the 4:50 or actually the 420 then the clerks trying to tell me that I had to buy the store brand but it did not say that on your circular so it took me 15 minutes to get it straightened out needless to say I wasnt too happy when I left the store

Giant is one of many grocery store options in the Columbia Heights area. Its what youd expect in a Giant with a better international food section compared to other Giants. Its one of the only stores in DC where you can find guava paste at. If you dont know what guava paste is, buy these ingredients: guava paste, crackers, and white cheddar cheese. Put it all together and you have a simple, yet out of this world snack!

Cashier in the Bakery Department was rude. I was picking a cake for a party and I ordered it ahead of time. I explained to the lady and she kept denying it, talking about us to her co workers and being rude. I was nice, trying to understand where she was coming from but she straight up gave me an attitude. To a customer in front of me, same thing.

If you want long lines, old produce, a staff that could care less and like reading papers and texting more than checking you out, then this is your store! Typical DC customer service and attitude. So happy to be moving away from this poor excuse for a grocery store. Giant should be ashamed to have their name on the front.

Best prices for a chain store in the area. Only one that comes close is Trader-Joes, but that is a bit out of the way. They need to do a better job on displaying the prices for produce, and they do get busy on Sundays. They now carry Kosher meat! look for it in the special meat section (with the natural/organic chicken).
