No walls here Mr President: America is and will be a land of immigrants. The Capitol Supermarket is owned by Koreans, the staff at the till are most often Spanish speaking, 2 of the guys are from Mongolia (where?), and a couple of Koreans. The produce section is diverse, caters more often to the Latino population - (tomatillo, avocado, aromatic cilantro, fresh corn tacos, manga, Mexican cheeses, spices and dried red chilies) and others, from Ethiopia, yes Injera (is that what?), and from India, Basmati rice. The stores draws clients mostly from the neighborhood that includes Latinos, African Americans, Gen Xs, Nex-gens, and international transients lodging at the Duo hostel next door. We love the small bananas, about 4 inches long, a more dense flesh, that one can polish off in two bites! Produce and people mix freely across non-existent borders at the Capitol Supermarket. We hope you will survive gentrification!

Great small & local grocer. I used to go to the Shaw Giant despite this place being nearly equidistant, putting up with Giants long lines simply because Id stereotyped this place rather negatively. When the Giant closed and I started coming here I was surprised: the selection still hits most of the things I need & the owners are willing to order you items they dont have. The prices are the same as or better than Giant was & the lines here are utterly non-existent -- at worst Im 2nd in line. Both staff and customers have always been friendly. Only negative trait: they close way too early (8pm).

Many items here are far more expensive than other groceries, even Whole Foods. For example, a bottle of san pellogrino is $2.29! Price gauging overload here as the neighborhood has flourished. However, not any evident reinvestment into making this grungy supermarket any better, more attractive, or any fresher with produce. They have introduced some organic items, which is nice, but charging plenty for them. I only come here as a last resort when fully pressed for time because its so close. Otherwise, way too expensive for what they offer!

It serves a very diverse population from ethnic Asian and Hispanic minorities to random young Europeans (theres a hostel nearby). I live close and definitely dont do all my grocery shopping here, but overall it gets the job done when I need to pick something up quickly. Not a great beer selection but cheap produce.

This place always seem to have everything that I need. Not just simple Staples but things that whole foods is always sold out of like baby bok choy and leaks. The other thing is, the owners are super helpful. Whatever you call it they will always take a moment to go look on the shelf to see if they have it.

Its difficult to find a grocery store in the downtown, but this place serves it right! Though a small place, this market has everything necessary including vegetables, fruits and meat. It also have bunches of daily supplies. In all, it is a convenient place for people living in the downtown!

If you dont feel like paying Whole Foods prices for your food staples, this is an excellent option just a couple blocks away. They also have a good selection of Goya products. The aisles seem well stocked, and the staff are friendly. Overall a great little neighborhood supermarket.

Basic necessities/exotic needs supermarket. Good for buying a few things or things you usually wouldnt find at your local giant or whole foods, but I wouldnt really go here other than if I desperately need something. Beware of vegetables/breads being way past their expiration date.

This grocery story is absolutely wonderful. Great prices (especially the produce) and you can find a pretty good selection of Asian spice, sauces and produce. Everyone who works there is very friendly too.

Friendly staff, extensive selection, and convenient location forgive lacking ambiance and high prices. Low credit card minimum ($2) is a plus, as are generally short checkout lines. No dedicated parking.

This is the closest supermarket to me and it is small enough to where Im not faced with the tyranny of choice. But I really go for the inexpensive produce. Best prices around!!
