This is my favorite brunch spot in DC. It has the local feel I think many of the local brunch hot spots doesnt have. It doesnt have the over-commercialized and impersonal feel. I love that I walk back in and Tom remembers me. I love that he remembers that I came in and took pictures of the place for my photography class and that Ive brought in my parents in the past. I love that the place is closed on Sunday since theres the same core group of employees that work there and they want to give the staff a day off. Commendable. I love the sound of them screaming "BLUEBUCKS". Gives me chills. I absolutely love their bluebuck pancakes. First time I went, insisted on having the plain with peaches and nuts. Next time I came, Tom told me I didnt want that -- instead that I wanted the bluebucks. "Trust me, theyre better". He was right. Pay the extra money for the real maple. Its worth it. Your dentist might not agree, but its mighty fine. Other good variations are the chocolate chip pancakes (yes, also with maple...) -- but when has chocolate gone wrong? French toast was pretty good too, but my votes with the pancakes. Cant wait to welcome Tom and crew back to being in operation 8/25. Been very much missed.

From the inside marketplace to the vendors outside, Eastern Market is a place that has something for everyone. The marketplace has a wide variety of meats, cheeses, seafood, baked goods/breads, prepared foods, and also houses a small restaurant - Market Lunch (which ironically makes a great breakfast). Just outside, local farmers/vendors sell fresh and delicious fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Oh, and dont forget to check out the mini-donuts outside, on the North side of the market, as well as grab freshly-squeezed lemonade (I do this every time I go; its basically a tradition of mine). Check out Big Poppa for some delicious kettle-cooked popcorn! There are also a bunch of vendors that sell their crafts, mainly to the East of the market, in a nearby parking lot. You can find art, furniture, jewelry, clothes, antiques, soaps, and a whole lot more from all the vendors here on the weekend. All the vendors Ive engaged with have been extremely nice, and you can tell that most of them take pride in the items they sell. Its a great place to go look for art/photos/maps to hang up in your home. Its a shame that I dont live closer, as Id love to come every weekend!

This is a decent outdoor/indoor market with crafts and wares or "flea" atmosphere on the weekends. Locals brag that its the best in the U.S., but like most DC boasts its not true. The butcher is incredible. Maybe the best in DC. Weve tried a variety of sausages (all in-house made), double cut pork chops and other meats and have never been disappointed. Nice selection of produce fresh herbs and flowers, especially on the weekends summer-autumn outdoors. On the weekend there are a lot of terrific craftspeople, artists, jewelry-makers, potters and photographers. There are also antique and vintage vendors. However, seems over the last 5 or 6 years the market has changed. Its becoming less and less a marketplace for antiques, artists and crafters and more for vendors selling mass produced stuff theyve purchased in bulk over the internet. Maybe thats ok? I dont know but it seems that the uniqueness of Eastern Market is slipping away when I can easily find the same mass produced hats, purses, jewelry, scarves, t-shirts and Turkish towels on the internet.

A fantastically diverse market that is especially worth a visit on weekends when the flea market is running next door. The prices can be high, but the quality is truly stellar - its so fun to buy freshly made pastas, meat that is virtually still mooing, and vegetables grown just a few miles away. I also love all the local artisans in the section outdoors - its wonderful to see DC-based artists getting so much business and appreciation. The little diner inside the market serves great BBQ and crab cake sandwiches, if youre willing to wait in line. There are a couple of other tasty food options outdoors, too - try the fresh pretzels! Overall, the atmosphere is festive and fun - theres often live music or other entertainers, and the whole neighborhood is buzzing with energy. Its really the perfect place to spend an afternoon!

The food was great, but I would not recommend going to the eastern market because of the thieves in the area. They stole my wallet while I was busy feeding my 3 kids. These people are monsters! They stole everything we had. They drove straight to Falls Church, VA Target. They used all of our cards, charging a total of almost $3000. The sad thing is that DC police and VA police department will give you the run around and make it really difficult to follow up on your case. I actually had to call Target to see if they had any footage of the thief, and Targets fraud department was very helpful in pulling all of the footage. Too bad the police doesnt seem to care to catch the perpetrator. So be very careful because this guy is still out there. He is a black male between the age of 30 to 40 years old.

Its an airy, skylighted big hall rebuilt (after a fire) in an old shell - looks old, isnt, which is good, especially concerning the bathroom situation. The daytime permanent food stands are OK, the cheese stand has a mix of nice and really cranky salespeople, some give out samples if in the mood. Market Lunch is the only sit-down place to eat, with stools at counters and communal table, but closes at 2. Decent crabcake there. On Thursday nights, there are tango lessons at 7 and then a tango dance (milonga) from 9:30-12:30am. On weekends, outside, theres a good collection of farmers-market produce and finished food stands and craftspeople selling everything from leather purses to Chilean finger puppets, sort of a street fair.

Eastern Market is the heart of the Capitol Hill community. Great ginger molasses cookies at the bakery, I like mine with no icing, then a rotisserie chicken, and home made kim che. Moving north, for handmaid pasta, a great selection of cheeses, with plenty of tasting going on, Union Meat for a cowboy steak, Mels for turkey bacon and sausage, chicken, turkey and other birds, then flowers for the heart, fish for the brain, and of course Market Lunch for breakfast and/or lunch: fried green tomatoes, home made rolls, crab cakes, bbq, and blueberry pancakes. Thats all inside the market house open Tues,to Sunday. Outside a farmers market, street fair and flee market on Sat and Sunday.

Eastern Market is a Washington institution, and if you havent been, go! A combined farmers and flea market, EM has sprawled into a massive hive of activity in recent years. Featuring practically every vendor you could think of, you can find meats, cheeses, produce, prepared foods, clothing, jewelry, furniture, and on and on. The flea side of the market features items both vintage and handmade; its sometimes fun to peruse the unique finds among the stalls. Be prepared for crowds, particularly when the weather is nice. It can be overwhelming and irksome, though its typically a nice way to spend a weekend morning. Definitely worth a trip a couple times a year.

Eastern Market unites Capitol Hill residents with the tourist masses that engulf DC. Its DCs oldest market where locals buy fresh produce from local farmers or meat from the butcher or grab some of the best breakfast and lunch around from Market Lunch. Then on weekends, locals and tourists enjoy the dozens of stands outside the market that sell handcrafted jewelry, paintings, maps, clothes and pretty much anything else. If that wasnt enough, they organize events at the Market like line dancing! Its a must for anyone visiting or living in DC!
