On 9.11.15, myself and a group of African American young adults were asked to move from the side of the building by a special police officer. The side of Benco has a metro bus stop there that services the community and the owner of Benco seems to forget who his patrons are. The elderly shop there and so do kids. The people who own and live in this SE community are the people who keep Subway, the barbershop and laudromat in business and to make sure a big deal out of people standing in the shade seems to be a bit much and also seems that the owner of this property forgets who his constituents are. During 90 degree days, the side of Benco offers shade to women with small babies, children and we are not disrupting business by standing there against the side where its shaded. I find this utterly ridiculous and the owner should be ashamed of himself. Removing an elderly person waiting on the bus with tons of bags from Benco Shopping Center seems assinine and a waste of resources. Time and time again, the shop owners in the Dollar Store (where nothing is a dollar and owned by Ethiopians) and Americas Best Wings -whose management has pissed many a customer off because you must keep your receipt in order to receive food that is already paid for. I understand and agree with some rules but when doing business and as I am a business owner myself, I know who my patrons are. Does this owner know or care? I would take my dollars elsewhere honestly.

I have been living in the SE Community for 7 years since moved from Alexandria,Virginia. Since been married. And this shopping mall isnt much of one due that there are men, old and young every so often beg for change which can get on your nerves and sometimes be checking out women/ standing outside the stores or around cars in the parking lot talking Bs with other friends. Women, children & teenagers come there to either get their food, clothes washed etc. There are cops always patrolling this area weekdays and weekends,24/7 which make me feel a bit safe. I do come there to get some things that are necessary but I try hard not to go there on a regular basics. I do most of my shopping somewhere in downtown DC or somewhere in Maryland. All in all I give this a 3 star rating but I do believe this "shopping mall" can do better with better Management.

They dont have the Mamas Laundromat anymore, and frankly that was an anchor store for them. I dont know if theyre long for this world. Not bad aside from that.
