Groceries (Food Depot-actually have never been in there, but they had a moon bounce and cookout last weekend celebrating their anniversary and I jumped around with my daughter for a while), pharmacy (Rite Aid), bank (Wells Fargo), auto supplies (Advance Auto) and repair (read on for more info), gas station (expensive gas), dollar stores (Dollar Tree and Family Dollar), breakfast spot (giant omelets for cheap at Sunnys), fast food (KFC, Wendys, and Checkers), and cellphone stores and pawn shops (they also sell cool cat eye contact lenses) with plenty of parking. Plus a ton of shoe stores, some clothing stores, and little restaurants. All in the same place. And theres a post office right behind the shopping center. Not bad for the city. However, this shopping center is kind of third world, with plenty of people charging their phones on outlets on the outside of buildings. And plenty of people asking to pump your gas, telling you about how theyre a college student and ran out of gas and their car is right down the street, or any other story designed to part the kind and empathetic soul from their money. The standard answer, my friends, is, "Sorry, I dont have any cash. Wish I could help you out." But there is an upside to all this third worldness: the open-air market. You thought I was going to say open-air drug market, right? Wrong. Its an open-air auto mechanic. Located in the lot right outside the auto parts store, one may speak to any number of mechanics. And its magical. Because there is no wait. And they work on Sundays. Say you need to have both axles replaced on a Sunday because your temp tags expire on Monday and you need to get back to the inspector before the MVA opens. Done. And you dont like the price quoted. Haggle for a better one. Its a major benefit of the third world. Do as you will.

Not real safe area. Lots of panhandling, hustlers, bootleggers videos, dvds, detergents, shopped lifted items, police activity, crime, aggressive car driving on the lot, Amplified car stereos throughout with vulgar language, and fights.. Westside Shopping Center is definitely a BIG CHANCE.. At night time if your not real streetwise you can become the game because theres someone always watching and lurking. One "Afternoon" a woman was backing up her car from a parking space in front of Food Depot Supermarket. Her Van backed into another parked expensive vehicle in the lot that caused considerable damage to that vehicle that was parked, $500 damage easily... as I sat in my car watching a man in his 40s immediately walked up upset and venting about how he just got it out of the shop and hated to do it all over again, he was very furious and told the frightened woman that he was either going to call the police or that she quickly kick him out $300 cash!! Probably to avoid her insurance rates going up she decided to give him part of her rent money... He quickly took the money, and in the confusion he walked back towards Food Depot area and was never seen again...!!! By now the real owner of the damaged vehicle has arrived... the lady in the Van got double whammy twice in one Afternoon.. The first thing she should have done was to ask for ID proving ownership.. she had to learn a valuable lesson and thats why you gotta be streetwise Day or Night at Westside Shopping Center.. and yes the police did arrive on that second incident, thats why I know she had gave up part of her rent money because I over heard her. Be safe...

It is your usual neighborhood go to spot for shopping in the inner city. The regentification has not hit this neighborhood yet! Its not clean. Its very busy. Children running around from the neighborhood with no seen supervision, drug addicts, etc. In a REAL pinch, stop by but..not alone. The subway restaurant is nice and clean. The shoe city store (not outlet) has professional staff and opens and closes on time. They have a shoe city outlet! Which is the highlight for us (otherwise wed have to driveout to arundel mills mall) But dont expect good customer service or anything there. You can get it, just dont expect it....Save yourself the disappointment. Also you have to go in the between hours. Dont expect them to open/close on time. The grocery store there ( Food king/Food Lion??) has that dirty feel and the limited selection isnt healthy.. I went in there once and will hopefully never be that hard up again.

This use to be a regular place I visited when I lived in the area. I like the selection of stores I go to City Trends a decent selection of clothes and prices are moderate. Food depot I been in a few times not bad. My only suggestion is to bring affordable organic foods to these stores located in poverty areas.

Great stores and a Shoe city outlet. Be cautioned that there is always someone asking for change. The stand by the doors and walk the parking lots. If youre not discouraged by that there are also restaurants and a dental office in the second shopping center.

Used to be a good place to shop, but unfortunately due to the deluge of the criminal element, it has become a "shop at your own risk" Situation. Food Depot and Advance Auto Parts are the stores that I shop at frequently.

The place could use a bit of an upgrade...in stores and landscaping to attract new customers to shop in inner city Baltimore. Some of the urban blight, along with the gypsy mechanics, make the place unattractive.
