Went for a "rescue event" on a Saturday, looking for a puppy and hopefully a German Shepherd. They had a 2-1/2 month old Shepherd, but it wasnt a "rescue". It was a purebred, registered with American Kennel, thats about the only good thing I have to say (that he is registered). We brought him home (begrudgingly for too much money). Ill preface this by saying, he is doing fantastic now, 3 weeks later, but it was not easy for him. We brought him to a vet the next day as advised - he came from the store with pneumonia, Kennel Cough, Giardia and very slight food aggression (which we discovered prior to the vet). On top of all that, the fing store employees couldnt remember what they were feeding him, so he DID NOT get to transition his foods properly. "Ummm, Purina, or PuppyChow, or something like that", is the answer I received. We had no choice but to change his food (diet) "cold turkey". Poor puppy is still not up on his final shots (postponed due to his illness), and is missing crucial socialization time while we confine him to prevent spreading anything to other dogs. Not even to mention the $400 weve spent at the vet in these 3 short weeks, with more shots still to come this week (worth every penny in my opinion). I somewhat agree with the "dont buy here, rescue/adopt instead", but in my humble opinion, they are the same in this case. There are cheap rescues, and expensive rescues (mill puppies some would call them I guess). I dont personally believe any of these puppies are less deserving of a loving home just because they are more expensive or come from unknown breeders. When you walk in the front door, you will want to take home every single one, just to get them out of there. The point being attempted with the rescue argument is lost as long as the store is in operation, because there will be puppies there that should be much better off. Id tell you not to ever shop here, but the dogs are as deserving of a good home as a previously abandoned "rescue". They should really just be shut down.

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ ALL. This place needs to be shut down. I came down to this business today to conduct an investigation due to all of the concerning reviews. When I came in I immediately came face to face with tiny cells with wired bottoms, and tiny rag for a "bed". When I asked why they didnt have beds the women had no response except that I should donate one...as if this is a rescue...and by the way, yes there is a rescue section in the back of their store, almost seems like its hidden because they do not make profit off of those dogs. Both sides were dirty and depressing. The woman who works there (and purchases the dogs) was extremely rude and defensive when I started to ask about where the puppies come from. She then claimed the store was "transparent" (but you are not allowed to take pictures in the store? I wonder why). She then showed me to a large binder full of USDA approved inspections from the breeders they purchased from and what I read in some of these approved breeders was horrifying. An APPROVED breeder was said to have an extremely filthy, disease spreading facility with 90 animals. Does this not sound like a mill to you? This just one of many. The positive reviews on here are fake. These are friends and parents are of the employees who work there. These puppies are sick and need a rescue that will provide adequate medical care before finding good forever homes. Listen, I know these dogs are cute and you feel bad for them to have to live there but PLEASE adopt from a reputable rescue center. Your money will go towards putting an end to the cruelty of these dogs instead of feeding this horrible cycle of commercial breeding. PLUS in return you will get a HEALTHY companion that wont cost you thousands of dollars in vet bills.

Please do not support this awful business. Shelter puppies are $300. If you insist on buying from a puppy store, GO TO GENTLE JUNGLE INSTEAD! THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE! SICK PUPPIES! I had an awful experience at The Dog House. I went in with the intentions to walk out with a puppy. I left disturbed and nearly in tears at the conditions those poor animals live in. I came in at an odd time, early on a week day, and maybe thats has something to do with it (even though it shouldnt!) The staff was very unprofessional. I was ignored and when I asked to meet a puppy the lady at first told me no, I couldnt view the puppies. I guess because I look young, I have no money and am just wasting her time? After convincing her that I was serious I was able to meet with a puppy. He had a round worm belly, had fleas crawling on him, and coughed once a minute. He sat in the corner of the little visit area and didnt move. Then when I asked to meet with another puppy I was told no, because there cant be any cross contamination. So obviously they are fully aware that their puppies are sick and have no shots and their solution is try to prevent one puppy from meeting another/coming into contact with the germs But they are all crated in the same area, and play together in the little room... theyre all sick. Please dont support this puppy mill.

I really didnt like this place. They had at least over 30 cages of puppies, each cage had 1-3 puppies in it. They get NO play whatsoever, or love. They are just put in cages made to wait for someone to BUY them a home. If they arent bought, they get reduced from 1000 dollars to around 150 dollars. If they cant get rid of them theyre free... But if no one adopts they get rid of them. I know this because I was going to buy one for 150 dollars, but once I learned about adopt to buying, I didnt. Also, a lot of the puppies developed kennel cough, and more diseases. If you look on each tag where they come from, the states where they came from are the most known places for puppy mills. And, get this, I asked one of the workers where they come from, and she said small homes that breed, but this is definitely false. She said they were supposed to get TWO HUNDRED PUPPIES BY NEXT WEEK. How in the world. Do you think. 200 puppies would come from little breeder homes. Within one week, and sell for a ridiculous amount of money? I saw many puppies eating the cardboard around them, many were filthy and smelled of urine. I do hope the public will see this and consider not going here, and possibly turning to the humane society, or an adoption kennel.

I was next door Guitar Center decided to stop in, youre hit with a strong urine scent immediately walking in worse than any shelter Ive been to.. the puppies are on wire crates which is normal with no beds. some of them had a small blanket. There are no video handwritten signs everywhere, I snapped one pic though I will post later . one very small cage with 2 pups crammed in was pooping on top of their only blanket (more like washcloth) and the employee stopped and watched and just walked away. This is also the only place Ive seen will ALLOW MONTHLY PAYMENTS FOR A LIVING ANIMAL. So what happens if you miss a payment? You tear that poor dog away from its home? This is why the real shelters are packed theyre charging pedigree prices for puppy mill dogs. If you can afford to save one of their dogs please do as they deserve much better environments than this "store" The dog I rescued from the packed New Haven Animal Shelter had better living conditions... please consider looking in the shelters when buying a new pet ** if they remove my picture Ill be back to take more wish I had today**
