This review is specifically for the bike department in the westminster rei and not rei in general they are currently my fav store after all lol. Ive been here twice once to test ride 29ers, 29ers rock the guy helping me not so much, he did his job but he knew less about bikes than me and Ive been riding consistently for about 2 months and spent less than 6 hours on a bike in my life b4 7 or 8 months ago. The second was buying a bike online and having it shipped here for my brother. The bike looks great real good deal 20% off with the rei warranty intact and a much better ride than we were hoping to get him. That said it would be even better and a lot safer if it had been assembled properly........... First ride he dropped it going about 5 miles an hour in sand and the handle bar twisted 60 degrees. An easy fix but considering it was dark and Im still learning my way around bikes he ended up waiting me try to reassemble the stem for 20 min (dont ask lol, tho I can do that now ^_^) while we waited for a ride. A real crappy maiden ride and if we had gone to the mountains instead he could have gotten hurt, I gave it a once over just now and the shifter wasnt tightened to the frame properly and the front wheel lock came undone with 1 finger of casual pressure. Perhaps bother incidents were flukes but when they cant even assemble a bike much less give me good advice I wont be going there. Hey I learned a good lesson no one in my family gets on a bike with out us checking it over. I also had a problem with my bike at the boulder rei dude kept it for over a month to replace a shifter after he told me he couldnt put back together because it was missing parts ........ I dont believe him now since when I got it back it was missing mounting device off the seat post that takes 4 screws to take off ......and is absolutely useless to anyone who doesnt bike around their bow with a system that you cant buy anymore, how lame. Also 5 min after I asked him why it took so long and he told me it was ready for a week and he never called because I didnt leave him a number....he called to ask me if he could spend my money to buy a new shifter lol. The manager already had heard the story ....some how. Bah this bull I like rei a lot but I suggest using the flag ship best selection best overall customer service in my exp and hell the coolest building. And Everyone Ive met in that bike shop knew their stuff. Anyhow happy shopping and gl. =) oh ps the reason this rei is so quiet is because its tiny just saying.

I bought a pair of North Face shoes last march. They have broken down pretty fast and I only use them a few times a week after work for my Normal Shoes. The rubber soul is detaching from the shoe. When I bought my shoes the sales associate sold me on the membership based on the fact that once you are a member you get additional perks on top of coupons and dividends. The perk I was sold on was that even if you are out of Warranty from a manufacturer and there is something obviously wrong with the product that they would take care of you. Instead what I got yesterday was told that I must have put a lot of miles on them because of the wear on the tread. I told the lady that I actually didnt. She insisted I was lieing. Directly or indirectly being called a liar 5 seconds into a conversation is not the way to keep customers. I explained the only reason I bought that membership was in case something like this happened. SO the summarize, I was lied to by a Sales Associate and then called a liar by another one a year and two months later. "Its like having 10,000 spoons, when all you need is a knife...." Needless to say, the $20 Membership is worthless to me and I will not be shopping at REI.

REI used to be a place where you are always being helped and educated if you are a newbie. It was a trustworthy experience for the last 17 years I have been using it. Today was the day, which shattered this cloud. Customer service is not welcoming, manager is even more irritated. What is wrong with you people working there? If I want crappy service and low quality items I would shop at Walmart. REI was always overpriced, but I can tolerate it in exchange for an excellent service and extra coverage for faulty items. Now days I would not be surprised if they go out of business soon with such a low level of customer service - they do not hide that they do not need your service. All explanations are ending at pointing out to the customer that its customer fault. Are we at preschool? Wow, just wow. You guys blew my mind today. Thank you for a firm reminder why I should avoid your store as a plague.

Its surprising they sell anything, everyone working there conglomerates at the register talking about their hydroponics growing. I wanted to ask about sleeping bags but instead I guess i had to dig around behind the bags to see what was behind them (you know, the ones theyre ACTUALLY selling to you at an upscaled price). Apparently customers arent allowed to do this here because were "idiots" and knock things off the display. Whoops. I know this review wont do anything because theyre such a huge chain store but at least my own satisfaction of giving the turd behind the register a callout post is nice. Their site has a nice selection of alleged products they have in store. I guess.

Im sorry to say that it was very hard-working too find staff to answer questions and let me into the dressing room. I actually left out of frustration, but returned later because I really wanted to know if there was a size in stock that wasnt on the floor. I was able to find help this time, but the computer inventory didnt match what was in the store, although the sales associate brought a different color item which would have been ok except that it wasnt the same style. I have to say I was pretty disappointed in the whole experience.

Two strikes and youre out. First try here was to get a detailed map for a camping trip, they no longer sell the drawers full of USGS maps – Booo! I got over it, made another attempt to patronize the store today, to buy some new ski goggles for my wife as a gift. Nothing. What? And REI store that sells no ski snowboard gear? And were only days away from October? I did two laps around the store looking for the gear, or looking for an employee, zero. Total fail. I have lost all faith in REI as a recreational equipment retailer.

Both employees (Michelle and Van) who helped me find my backpacking pack were wonderfully informed! This is the first pack Ive ever bought. I came in not knowing anything about what I needed, but I left full of knowledge and with a pack that fit correctly! Perfect for what I need this summer as a Trek Guide. The employees also helped me find coupons and great deals- although I wasnt worried about the price. Every experience Ive had at REI has been amazing. 10/10, would recommend.
