Wow. So I had a box that needed to be shipped to an address. Nothing complicated. I actually walked by the Post Office and thought "naah...Ill be stuck in line there, Ill just go to Kinkos and ship it FedEx ground". Without naming names, the guy behind the counter would have tried the patience of the Dali Lama. Im all for employing the differently-abled, and I could tell that he was trying, but I couldnt help feeling that my life was slipping away while this transaction slowly crept forward. At one point I filled out the paperwork and put it in front of him, and we both just stared at it silently for a good ten seconds. "So," I asked. "What happens now?" You could hear the copy machines humming. And then the engine of the FedEx Ground truck starting up and soon driving away. Its worth mentioning that there were two customers ahead of me with packages to ship, and the mood was grim in that store. When I came home I started to tell my wife about this unreal experience and she stopped me immediately. Shed gone in to buy two cards at this Kinkos and having an excruciatingly slow experience with the same guy. Its not the fault of the guy whos just not capable of doing his job, but of management for putting him there and not confronting the problem.

When this place was Kinkos,, it was great. All the local businesses and service people and ordinary customers relied upon it. It was full of people happily and quickly doing their paperwork, digital image work, and publishing everything from cards to giant banners, menus to business brochures.It was an especially great place for self-publishing your own business cards fast, cheaply, with professional results. There was a skilled and talented desktop publisher on hand to help you with the state-of-the-art computer publishing applications. How FedEx could screw up such a great and much-valued community service so fast is astonishing.

Kinkos was vampirized by Fedex....which started replacing non-coporate type, relaxed employees who projected the same attitude as do staff in a non-chain bookstore, you know, the kind of place where people were willing to talk about books, with drones at the bottom, droids at the top. Now, FedEx has the lobotomy in place and the glazed look rules. Still, if you peek around, you will find a few endangered species managing to survive under the fluorescent sun.

I use to love this place, but now its a DUMP! The place is filthy, the machines are always busted, the paper trays empty and supplies are never to be found. What was once a great place to get a little quiet and finish up your project before shipping it off, is just the opposite now, an exercise in futility.

I just called their office to see if a package had made it to them. They put me on hold for ten minutes, and then they picked up again and then hung up. my package is late and the status online just says pending.
