We purchased a dining table, four dining chairs, two lounge chairs and two ottomans from English Garden Furniture in the summer of 2005. We were attracted by the great style and reasonable prices, and English Garden Furniture delivered the furniture to us in San Francisco. We loved the furniture and enjoyed it for about two years. In the summer of 2007, we began to notice that the finish at the bottom of the chair legs had begun to peel off - this was not due to the chairs being knocked about. By the summer of 2009, the peeling had become bad enough for us to go to English Garden Furniture to see what could be done about the problem. The same salesman who had sold us the furniture looked at the photos we had taken and explained that the damp and foggy weather in San Francisco was the culprit - he gave us a "kit" consisting of sandpaper and spray paint and suggested we "repair" the damage ourselves. We went home and attempted this, but by this point, the damage had gone beyond repairing it ourselves and attempts at sanding it just resulted in more peeling. Fast forward to the summer of 2011 - large strips of paint were continuing to peel off and the furniture was looking very unattractive. We decided to have another go at contacting English Garden Furniture to see if there was anything they could do for us and if they would stand by their product. We took one of the chairs to the shop to show them the degradation. The same salesman who had sold the furniture to us again told us that the peeling was due to the damp salt air in San Francisco - he explained that he told all his San Francisco customers that this was a risk to the furniture finish (he did not give us this warning when we bought the furniture) and he said the only solution would be to have the furniture sandblasted and refinished - he gave us business cards for a couple of companies that did powdercoating. At this point, we are not willing to put money into this inferior product - we have had it picked up by Sunset Scavenger. English Garden Furniture does not guarantee their finish (despite other manufacturers who offer many-year finish guarantees) and continue to advertise and sell it to people who will use it in an environment for which it is not suited. See photo above of chairs and table.

Rust proof? NO WAY. We purchased several thousand dollars worth of patio furniture from this place. The leg collapsed on our table, and the rocker has rusted. Their customer service is appalling. An employee told us via phone to bring the furniture back today(the day after the call). It is heavy, bulky but we did it, only to find no-one around to meet with (at the agreed upon day/time). The very unhelpful woman who was there said that she had no way to reach Steve the owner/manager and to go away, but then got him on her phone as soon as the damaged furniture was started to be unloaded. Steve is a very rude man who refused to accept the furniture or to come to our home to inspect it. On explaining (very politely) we would come back but it would need to be on the weekend (we work week days, today was the exception) he started yelling and said we would not be allowed to come back then. But still refused to allow the furniture to be unloaded and left there for his assessment and discussion of resolution. I expect that he is busy with customers on the weekend who would rightly bolt out the door if they saw what his "life time" furniture did after a few years of very light use... To be continued...

I bought a table and chair set from English Garden Furniture 8 years ago. It is sitting outdoors in at my home in Monterey three blocks from the beach. It looks as good as the day I bought it. I do keep care of it--wipe it down and wax it once a year. I have a little touch up kit in case of nicks but havent had to use it. My mother bought a chaise from the over 15 year ago which I inherited. It also sits outside and is in perfect shape although I do cover it in the winter because of the moving parts on it. I am not sure what peoples expectations are when they buy outdoor furniture. Everything I have ever purchased has either fallen apart or looked awful within three or four years. This is the first furniture I have even had for longer and it looks like I will be using it for years to come. What a bargain...even if I had not purchased it at such a discounted rate.

Had same experience as others. Furniture nicely designed but paint peeled off within a couple of years.
