My initial visit was lackluster at best. Older staff were grumpy and clueless; not of much help finding items on my want list - looked it up in their computer system, got the spelling wrong multiple times & played it off as my fault, then just pointed me to the genre area (where I had already been and looked). All discs are in the plastic carrier theft protection pain in the ass; so you have to flick through each item front art rather than scan the spines - takes forever. Add to the pain of the low height of shelving for the CDs, and you grow tired of the hunt rather quickly. Selection on sub-genres was lackluster at best. Being a college town, you would think the selection would be diverse - no so. If you did find a title you wanted, pricing was on the expensive side. Anything in the gaming console section is extremely overpriced - I found games I picked up last week for $4 and $5 that they were asking $15 and $20. A PS2 Guitar Hero controller for $35?!? Outrageous! The asking pricing on the stereo gear was also insane - $65 for a 100 disc Sony player is laughable. The check out process is also antiquated - the student had to fill out a slip for each disc; then put some sticker over every UPC. Seriously?!?!? Add in they could not find the shipping boxes that they had on display, the entire experience was so easily tainted - and could have been prevented. Not a good visit, not a good first impression/experience.

I dont see why the warrantee on the games there dont let you replace them, only if they dont work when you buy them. Which is highly unlikely because every game there is cleaned up a lot where it will work. One of the games I bought broke one day, I took it in and they told me "the warrantee is only good for if it doesnt work at first" and they offered to put it in their disc fixing thing. I was there for 30-40 minutes, took it home and it still didnt work. Not the best experience from a place that has that many selections of music, games, movies etc. If you like them, thats cool. But I recommend finding your entertainment elsewhere.

I went into this joint in SLO at 20 minutes until closing to sell my video game crap and the jerkoff told me some weird thing like "Oh, I dont want to take your stuff and have to open the safe, blah blah." Dont stay open if you dont want to make money then? Cash out at 8pm instead of a very glorious and beachly 10pm or an admirable beach town 24/7 vibe. Ever seen SLO at night? Its glorious, why the hell do most of the places close? Need night shift for bosses of the night. More jobs, less money to waste.

Cheap Thrills is the only place you can get a lot of vintage video games and gaming equipment that still works for fairly cheap. Always more used records coming in. Yeah you have to take off your backpack. Ive never sold anything to them, but Ive bought a lot of awesome stuff for pretty cheap.

Nemos (which is right next door) is great, big selection of comics and dvds. Cheap Thrills is also not bad, although their metal section is lacking. Every so often theyll have something rare or imported for a low cost (usually less then $10 or so). Their other sections are also decent.

Love love the upstairs! If you want good prices on used vinyl in central coast, this is the place! The rating system (very good, excellent, NM etc..) is pretty accurate, they let you open it at the counter before you buy to double check. My fave of the 2 places in SLO

This place has it all! Im amazed at their selection. CDs, movies, games, a kids section, and so much more. You have to check Cheap Thrills Records out, also check out their other store the Sub as well, its also pretty awesome! The staff is friendly and very helpful.

They have very low knowledge of what they buy. I highly recommend at all cost to selling your records, DVDs and CDs here. They will screw you over bad! Anywhere else will get much better $$$$! Trust me on this/ And yes, their attitude sucks!

Vinyl and records seems relatively ignored especially now that vinyl is coming back as a popular music format. Selection is kinda meh but fun if visiting.
