As a property manager I tend to visit Home Depot more than the average homeowner, and over the past 10 years I have shopped the San Leandro, El Cerrito, Emeryville, and Oakland stores. Of these, the San Leandro store is by far my favorite and has the best customer service. Staff is generally friendly and helpful - I contrast this to the Oakland and Emeryville stores where I literally have been ignored by staff, and when I ask where an item is at the Emeryville store I have received a reply of, "its somewhere over there..." followed by the wave of a hand as the employee goes about his business. Really?! At the Oakland store, the crew is tight, maybe a little too tight. I usually have to interupt chatting team members to get any help, and several times the cashiers have held running conversations with each other while ringing up customers. Because of this, Ive had to visit customer service twice to have errors corrected on my receipt. The staff at the San Leandro store, on the other hand is friendly but not overly social, is helpful and often very knowledgeable. And special kudos to assistant store manager Don. On the rare occasions a problem has popped up that a staff member could not help me with, Don has made a point to step in and do anything he can to solve the problem. Its refreshing to know the asst. magr staff is hands on and willing to work a problem to find a solution. That said, they are not perfect: it is nearly impossible to get a question answered by phone - the line rings an average of 10-20 times before it is picked up, and when I ask for a certain department, I often sit on hold for 10 minutes or more. So most of the time I just drive over and speak with one of the helpful specialists running around the store. And I always leave satisfied - cant ask for more than that!

Heres an example of the crappy customer service at Home Depot. Im trying to buy a bulb for a flourescent light fixture: I go to the desk and ask for help- they tell me to wait in the aisle. I wait 20 minutes- nobody shows up. I go back to the front desk, they say theyll call him. I wait again for 20 minutes. I ask the guy stocking the shelves if he can help me. He doesnt speak much english. He says hell go get someone to help me, and never returns. I go ask someone in a different department if he can help me. He says he doesnt really know that section. Then I go to OSH. Were standing in the lightbulb aisle looking at what they have. A guy WALKS UP TO US and ASKS US IF WE NEED HELP. He pointed us to a cheaper bulb and said "This one is also compatible with what you have, but its actually a bit brighter than the bulb youre using." Stay away from Home Depot. Go to OSH. Its 5 minutes away and youll thank yourself.

The Customer Service is TERRIBLE at the San Leandro Home Depot. I was trying to buy some curtains and needed to get them cut into the right proportions. We told the women at the register that we needed assistance and she called for assistance. We waited 5 minutes and there was still no one coming to assist me. We saw some employees walking by and told them that we needed assistance and the employees would say they would bring someone to help us but no one showed up. I told the lady again and she called for assistance again and there was still no one. I waited another 15 minutes and then went to go talk to the manager. The manager was very rude and said "I dont care I am working on something else." The manager was very rude and disregarded a customer. Regardless if you were having a bad day or a busy day, you are what you make of this shop, being rude to a customer is out of the question.

Terrible customer service ever. Went to this store for returning some extra items and some other issue at previous day. Got finally solved with the issue that this store made at previous day. Went back to ask my return receipt that the male cashier didnt give it to me. He denied first with attitude and found it at his desk. Then blamed me to drop it. Today, it was raining and there were several people behind me. How come the receipt was still clean and new if I dropped it? How could he see and pick it behind the counter? I had no intention to blame no one and just asked my return receipt. This guy blamed others for his mistake and lied shameless. Fortunately I barely shop this store since I dont live in this city. I left and didnt want to give my business to this store.

First of all, the place is filthy. Secondly, the customer service there is hit or miss (but usually miss). I was chewed out one time for going into a blocked off section - even though an employee let me in there. They will block off an aisle for no apparant reason for days at a time. Checkout is a nightmare as they rarely have more than one lane open. That leaves the self checkout lane, which itself is an adventure because the scale doesnt register any small items. The parking lot is poorly laid out and traffic is terrible because of the walmart next door. Even though this store is right by our house, we nearly always drive the extra distance to the oakland or hayward stores, or the lowes way down in union city.

Had the WORST experience ever! I took a receipt from a previous purchase to returns because I had used my personal accout to pay for it and I wanted to use my business account instead (I am a local small business owner) and I was treated like a criminal and refused any service at all. I called ahead to the emeryville location and they were HAPPY to assist with my transaction. I am NEVER going back to the san leandro store again! I was singled out because I am a lesbian for NO REASON. they would not even look at my id or my cards that I wanted to use for the transaction. I have been a loyal home depot customer for over five years and I have never been treated as poorly as I was today by the returns cashiers.

Company and Policies are great. But if you need help like I did locating an item.... Some employees are to busy. Getting a lumber cart is a pain if your buying big items. I used the restroom and found where they wind up, about a dozen grouped together. I was going to ask the employee on my way in from the parking area. But he looked to busy sitting on the carts smoking. Home depot offers a saw/cutting service, but not this place... Every time I shop there its so to speak "Broken/Out of Order". So Im not sure if they even bother fixing it. So if thats in you project. Call ahead or better yet try another store.
