I confess I am a huge skeptic about buying vehicles, and I had been looking for a long time. Ive had my mechanic check every vehicle before I bought it. When I saw an ad for a dually at Bay Motors that was a great price, I assumed it was too good to be true. Being a dealership though I knew there were laws they had to obey, so thought it might be better than buying from a private party. The only concern was they are 60 miles away from me (in order to get the best deal I have been searching all over Northern CA!), so I wouldnt be able to take the dually to my mechanic BEFORE I bought it. I once dragged a prospect vehicle from Sonoma down to Morgan Hill so my mechanic could see it, but Bay Motors wouldnt let me take their vehicles that far. I went up to see the truck, the salesman walked me through the vehicle and pointed out a couple things to be aware of (a seal was leaking that he said would only be $30 to repair -- I remained skeptical!). He of course tried to get me to make a decision on the spot, which I expect dealers to do, but he understood my wanting to "sleep on it". I returned in a couple days, but this time brought a buddy who is a hobby mechanic. To my surprise the dealership was cool with that, and my friend crawled all over the vehicle and checked it out, plus we did another test drive. Everything looked good, only issues were usual wear and tear, but we bought the warranty just to be safe because the truck had so many miles on it. I bought the truck and took it to my mechanic. He was very proud, the truck was a good bargain, and I was very relieved! He warned me there was an issue with the brakes though -- new pads had been put on, but whoever did the job didnt check the rotors with a micrometer and they were "at or below discard limit". My mechanic suggested I call the dealership as they should not have sold the vehicle like that, although he said its an easy mistake to make. GUESS WHAT? The manager was outstanding, gave me her cell phone # to be able to work with her on the issue, she made some calls and arranged to get the rotors replaced the next day. Just to be safe I brought it back to my mechanic again, and he said the work looked perfect. What else can I ask for?? Good price on the truck, the staff did everything I needed, and when there was a problem they immediately fixed it. Yes, this dealership clearly is into volume because of their low prices, but if you know what youre getting this place is outstanding. Im definitely going back for my next vehicle.

Tried to buy a car from them twice in the last 2 years. Same horrible service each time. First time (2 years ago), none of the sales people came to talk to me for at least 1/2 hour (probably longer), even after climbing in and out of several cars. A sales person finally appeared long enough to answer some basic questions about a car I was interested in. While looking around the interior of the car and trying to ask them another question, they walked away mid-question. Another sales person eventually walked up and politely answered a couple more simple questions before they also walking away, to "help with another customer" (car lot was almost empty of customers). They were obviously looking for "suckers" to dump crap cars on, rather than answer actual questions about the quality of their vehicles. I finally walked off the lot, since they didnt seem to want to sell a car that day. Most recently (within the last month), I called twice about a truck I was really interested in and talked to 2 different sales people (1 woman & 1 man). Neither knew if they even had the truck on the lot and neither were willing to walk 100 out of their showroom to check on an important (to me) detail on the truck. Told them I had cash in hand for the truck, was willing to drive a couple hours to see the truck and that I would really like to know about this detail. Both told me flat-out "No" a second time. Told them I wasnt willing to drive 2 hours if they werent willing to check on this detail. Both *LITERALLY* told me to "Buzz off if youre not serious about buying a vehicle." WTF! Seriously??!? I even went as far as to send them a polite email (asking for much simpler information) but never received a reply. Thanks but no thanks.

They should just rename dealership as "Mechanics Specials"...a good majority of the cars on the lot have "issues." I was sold a lemon of a Honda Pilot. From a distance they all look fairly decent. DONT LET APPEARANCES FOOL YOU!! The Honda Pilot I got has... 1) leaks all around 2) suspension problems 3) transmission problems 4) body issues The only reason I bought it was that a friend of mine owns a shop and it was a project vehicle for myself. It wasnt the worse deal..but far from the greatest if you do not have access to resources such as parts, wrenching it yourself with friends. I spent a total of $3k in parts minus labor I myself supplied along with favors exchanged for borrowing a friends shop...and a lot of beer! Dont believe their ad description as its mostly repetitious and typos. The person writing it really dont know the difference between "4WD" vs "AWD." **Tip.. Do your research. Avoid turbos, bring a mechanic or someone knowledgeable about cars. Avoid salespersons with a "personal story" to share. They will play on whatever you tell them. Its the "Sure..I know what youre going through..."..bs; new best friend. Seriously..do you suppose what I was telling them was really my life story?lol! Be able to sniff out bs. Majority of these vehicles are NOT trade ins. Most are typically bought at car auctions such as Manheims, etc. High mileages are common. Appearances are usually worked on by mobile shops ie; dent and paint repairs. Mechanical repairs especially are kept at a bare minimum to maximize profits. Pros? They do have an interesting selection if you know what youre looking for. (hence the 2 star rating) Buyer beware.

for sure do not believe the good reviews-obviously an employee at this store gave themselves a good review whooohoo...this place is HORRIBLE. We looked at their cars and all of them are reject vehicles no real auto dealership would ever sell because the vehicles are junk-complete junk. We did purchase a vehicle and yesssss of course it blew up in less than a week and when we called they told us to take a hike..."buyer beware" is what they said. I did some research and bay city motors currently has several lawsuits pending due to selling bad cars and trucks and obvioulsy they told the customers to take a hike. Also found out they had been shut down a few years ago by the dmv because of the same issue SELLING JUNK-FLOOD DAMAGE-WRECKED VEHICLES and not telling customers the truth about the poor quality of the vehicles being sold at bay city motors. They will be out of business soon AGAIN since they have more lawsuits against them. Avoid this little used car lot or get a good lawyer-because you will purchase a reject vehicle-get lied to about the condition-and told "buyer beware" when it BLOWS UP. Just hope your family is not in the vehicle when it happens...like mine:( I did get another car from San Leandro Kia-Hyundai and they did a great job and the car did not blow up....
