I used to come here daily about 3 years ago when they changed from Davids to Babycakes, and Ive been putting off giving a review. The owner, when we saw him, was always very rude to my company and I, even though we were there daily buying multiple drinks and sweets throughout the day. One specific time during a remodel, a fan that was above our table fell from the ceiling and was dangling just short of one of our heads. The owner walked by and said "oh no, good thing youre okay" and walked away....Needless to say, I hardly ever return. And everytime I do, I never see my favorite cupcake - the Pommy Cupcake. Anyways, staff now. Leslie was so sweet when she worked there, and theres a guy with tons of tattoos who I absolutely adore, but the new workers just dont care about you, dont smile, nothing. The last time I came here, during pride, I bought 1 cupcake. It came out to 3 and some change - I handed over the dollar bills I was paying with, and waited for my change. The girl working rung up my cupcake and shut the drawer, turned around and said thank you, and started helping the next customer-- I never received any change! I dont care about the 34 cents or however much it was, but the employees need to be returning change to people, even if its a penny. After all thats happened at this establishment, I will not be coming back due to an all around lack of respect- for my safety, my time, my business and my money.

An interesting dessert place that has a bar attached!! Stopped by the day after a fantastic experience at Extraordinary Desserts, when someone told us Babycakes was its competitor slash equal. That should explain a missing star! :) Babycakes is a cute, family-style, colorful joint with corny quotes on plaques on the wall. The ambience is cool and kitsch. The service is cheerful. Friendly! Between two of us, we sampled a blueberry scone, a tiramisu cupcake and peach-peppermint Italian soda. The bill sure surprised us, very reasonable fare. The cupcake surprised me in its presentation, very gourmet. Wrapper peeled out, set in a plate with pretty chocolate artistry. The consistency and layering was beautiful, like some serious study had happened.. of the coming together of tiramisu and a cupcake. We walked out with another soda.. a coconut-peppermint, which explains the success on that front. But, but, but.. the wow factor! The explosion of a perfect tiramisu hitting the palate didnt happen. Nor did the scone. It was great, but not wow = bottom line.

Ive visited the Fillmore Bakeshop a few times now, and I think this is a great bakery.Im a big apple pie devotee, and their version of this classic pie does not disappoint. They cut relatively big slices of their pies, and I thought the apples were nicely tart with a great balance of sweetness. They do offer to heat up the pie in the microwave if so desired.I also loved their pretzel, which was soft and not overly salted.Ive also tried several of their cookies, and have yet to find a dud. There is limited seating, so I think this place probably works best as bakery where you get your items to go.

I dont understand a place that only makes two things and makes them both poorly. The cakes are not made on site and it shows. They have languished in the case and are not fresh. The people working behind the counter dont have the requisite knowledge to explain their products and do not know how to operate their espresso machine properly. The crumb of the cupcake is too loose, the icing hard and old and the coffee weak and lacking crema and technique. A poor choice for dessert or coffee. Hopefully they will close soon and someone with talent who cares about their product will take their place.

Pricier cupcakes at $3 each but the flavors are unique and the cakes are always moist. I have only had the cupcakes but they also have cheesecake along with other sweet treats. The owners are friendly and make pretty designs on your plate with sweet syrup once you order it. My favorite cupcakes are the pistachio and passion fruit guava flavored ones. Its been a while since Ive been back but nothing has ever disappointed any time I went. There is outdoor patio seating as well as bar seating. Its the one place where you can knife and fork your cupcakes just to enjoy the ambiance of the place.

We were here twice in less than 24 hours, we liked it so much! The food, drinks, desserts & service are all pretty great! Over two visits, we tried the Baby Mac (both with & without ham), Chicken Quesadilla, Spinach Quiche with Spinach Salad, Chicken Pot Pie with Fruit, Pork Sliders with Fries, and then- the desserts... Lava Cake, rich & decadent. Tuxedo Cupcake, moist cake, with a delicious raspberry filling. Chocoholic Cupcake, delicious not-too-sweet chocolate frosting; cake tasted a little overcooked and was dry on this one. We love the Mexican hot chocolate here!

Today I purchased 2 cupcakes from this place. The front rows looked amazing but when I made a selection they grabbed 2 from the very back, both looked different than the ones in the front. I asked if there was a difference between these and the ones in the front. I was told no and that they were just from a different Baker. Well I ate them about an hour late and they were both dry and stale tasting. It is obvious to me that they were both from the day before if not older. Im on vacation here and I must say disappointing at the very least.

The food is great and the drinks are good the staff is great but the GM is a creep. GM follows me around and makes me feel very uneasy while there. I feel like he think I am there to steal something the way he keeps looking at me. Plus he is always telling people that knows me I am there. Today Janurary 24 at 345 pm I was there and he kept walking around me. It is really creepy and rude. I was there less than 5 minutes and I had to leave. I was so creeped out because of the GM.

Cupcakes, french fries, and adult beverages! Cant get much better than that! I love this place. When walking up it looks like a little house. Baby cakes has a nice outside eating area and a bar over on the side. Of course parking in terrible because it is Hillcrest. If you are lucky you might get one of the 4 spots right in front. Sundays are crazy! Its packed with people like a day club! The cupcakes are delicious. Very creative with flavors. Cant get enough!

During the day there is a mellow energy here which makes every seem very relaxing. The perfect way to appreciate the sweet or savory items on the menu. Ill tell you what though, I was there on a Sunday afternoon when all of a sudden a DJ & bar was set-up out front and groups of people started walking up creating a lively sunny SD party. So no matter what type of vibe you are looking for it seems to me that Babycakes finds one way or another to bring it.

This is sort of a must when we visit Hillcrest. The cupcakes are delicious and fancy. If youre craving chocolate with a little fruit I recommend the Black Bottom which is chocolate cake with a rich vanilla cream cheese and chocolate chip frosting/filling and a bit of raspberry in the center. My family is in love with the blood orange cupcake. But theres really no wrong way to go here. The bar is also good but the cupcakes really steal the show.
