I walked in, looking for a bottle to drink at a local restaurant. I was looking for a German Riesling to start and a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir for my main course. I looked over the Rieslings and found nothing of merit. I then inquired about three German producers that I have never heard of. The worker said "I have no idea , but let me get the man in charge that knows it all." I replied with a thanks and continued to browse. The man came over and clearly B.S.-ed his way through an answer. He told me that a 2005 Mosel (Reinhold Haart) was similar to a 2003 Pfalz region(The hottest region in Germany). I do not mind when someone doesnt know, but when someone lies and has his head up his butt, that is when I get annoyed. Mind you, this happened in mid-2006. I gave it another try in late 2007, but the store was still pretentious and full of it. BevMo has more of an idea what they are doing. The supposed "Wine Steward" also put Bonny Doon Framboise in the fridge. An associate told me that it was so that it would "Tighten Up". I could only imagine that by "Tighten Up", she meant turn into garbage. The prices are all on the high side. The odds of finding a deal are slim to none. If I were you, I would give some extra money to one of the downtown restaurants by ordering a bottle off of one of their lists.

The Wine Steward is our favorite wine purveyor. We just attended one of their wine education and tasting events. Very educational, very entertaining, and some very good wines. For those folks who think that the wine world is all about Cabernet and Chardonnay, you will be blown away by the wine discoveries that Jim and his team will bring to your senses.

Best wine store in Pleasanton. The staff is very helpful and knows their inventory well. One tip, go upstairs and enjoy a glass of wine.

Not pretentious and have all kinds of wines from all over and even small vintners and not just Italian & French.
