It is a mall converted into social service type businesses as well as medical and dental for the low income who get County medical or State Medi-Cal. They have an SSI (Social Security) place, Social Services Admin place for food stamps, General Assistance, cash aid, CalWorks, Medi-Cal, and other help for low income persons and families. A WIC office is here for women and their offspring, and there is a great WIC approved grocery store for WIC check bearers to spend the checks on. They even have a County library and a place for disabled persons, known as IHSS, known as In Home Support Services, which helps set up in home care and support for those in need. There are other offices here, a Bank of America, places to aid the Elderly, Employment Centers, and more help for children in need (not sure if a Children and Family Service center, which hosts CPS). Otherwise with one lone elevator and two story parking, this mall looks completely deserted. It does have a bus center here and an old fashioned double archway McDonalds outside, and probably another banking center, so if you came for help you can find help for every type of human being here, just try to apply.

Even though most of the Town Center is closed on Saturdays, the Eastmont Branch Library of the Oakland Public Library system IS open, 10 to 5:30 (call ahead in case there is a furlough day scheduled), staffed by knowledgeable and helpful library aides, assistants and librarians. There is a great display of new and exciting books, lots of patron computers, and free Wi-Fi. There is a friendly childrens area, and spacious meeting room. You can order any book from anywhere in the public library system (and a network of 80 other libraries through LINK+) and pick it up at this branch, convenient to neighborhoods such as Millsmont, Eastmont, Maxwell Park, Leona Heights, etc.

It used to be a real mall but certian people were just fighting and claiming gang stuff and generally being violent so the mall failed and it was an eyesore failure, dangerous to transfer busses there too, so they installed a police station and put in mostly government stuff. I remember laughing when u could go to the BLM office... AND get welfare and WIC at the same place. But gazzalis or whatever it is in the back is a great store, quality meat and produce and they r really friendly there so thats y I actually go there.

They have just about everything you need to get back on your feet. In the kid 2000s the place was turned into a make-shift hospital of sorts; the top floor has an array of medical clinics, the bottom, the bottom floor has a variety of social and financial services available. Check out the career center for a free computer lab, sparkpoint for free financial services, and the library on the top floor.

Oakland city government has all but taken over this shopping center in the heart of East Oakland, leaving nothing but a collection of drastically over priced, low-end stores, parking thats all but impossible to maneuver in and out of safely, a random collection of pushy street vendors, and approximately 1/2 of the cities homeless population... what a waste

Its a good place to go to. They have DDs Discount and other cheap retail stores. They also have CVS and a grocery store, fast food restaurants, Autozone and if you dont have a car they have bus stops all over. The welfare office and Prime Nutrition is inside. So is the Library and many more.

The shopping center has a few stores worth a look. It also has a Bank of America. Deedees discount is a definitely worth a look. Alameda county social services are located inside the mall, and their main purpose is to assist people...they are doing great work.

This place is mostly for social services and the like. It used to be an actual mall but not now. Lots of shady characters hang out here in front. Parking is a disaster especially if going here at key times like when they open.

The outside feels unsafe to say the least. There are some good stores on the outside but inside; its basically a dead mall. Very few stores are open and of the stores that are still there, less than half are for shopping.
