You are likely to find reincarnations of Jack Kerouac and the entire beat generation founders here. Infused with local UC Merced students, this place has that certain "feel" or "spirit" interaction of the original beat hangouts with its poetry readings, local music, various coffees, drinks and munchies, and somewhat unusual, but frequent clientele. But, if you are into more of a stand in line, grab and go, bus stop, alone in a crowd type vibe, then just go to the Starbucks just down the street. Or, you can go to any grocery store, buy a cup of coffee and sit and stare at their bread aisle. Now, thats really exciting! I guess if you happen to be on acid, or maybe havent slept for several weeks. But, I jest of course! Never mind. Just go to Coffee Bandits. Its on main street next to the cool looking theater with the big tower on top that says Merced. You cant miss it. There is also a very cool looking vintage neon 7-Up sign at the nearest intersection just for reference.

I think this place is great as a venue, great for the casual biz meeting and agree the atmosphere has a cool vibe; very homey. However, I think the coffee is just okay. The espresso drinks are good, not excellent but Im not sure if its the actual espresso blend or the extraction. Unfortunately, I was also disappointed by their drip coffee as it tastes watered down. I asked for a pour-over this morning and while I didnt watch their technique the pour-over tasted even more watered down than the drip coffee. I actually had to pour it out, it was so bad. Consider this a review of the coffee, and not the actual venue or service.

Coffee Bandits is a great local alternative to Star Bucks. Where as most Star Bucks are get it and go, Coffee Bandits is a place where you can really absorb the community. The interior is laced with local artists work and they play local music as well as host events like poetry nights and participate in the local Merced Arthop by showcasing artists to play live music. Theres a nice seating area outside with plants surrounding. This is a great place with a wonderful atmosphere.

Most of the time the coffee comes out absolutely amazing, best coffee I have had in Merced. Keeps me wired for hours lol. Reasonable pricing and they have stamp cards that give you a free drink after you buy 12 drinks. Students get a discount. Comfortable atmosphere, i go there to study or browse the internet with their free wi-fi, which has great speeds.

If you happen to be in Merced, CA be sure to stop at Coffee Bandits for the BEST local coffee you will ever have. Large seating areas (indoor and out) with a nice view of Main St. in Downtown Merced. Love the casual atmosphere, feels like home. It is a nice change from Starbucks!

I went there the first time and i got the same kind of drink i get at starbucks and it was just as good but with nice calm cafe atmosphere to enjoy your coffe i think its great to because id rather spend my money at coffe bantits than any starbucks

Forget Starbucks, Coffee Bandits is the coffee that we need. Staff is always friendly and prices are perfect. 16 oz. Mocha, no whip, and Im set for the day. Shout out to Andy and Chip for the outstanding service you provide to the community.

Bleh. Coffee is OK but guessing for the sign at the entrance "Please keep Starbuck coffee cups or your will have to use one of our owns" one should have guessed that people come here maybe for the ambiance?
