Went in expecting to get some dessert. We have been here many times before. ordered 2 desserts to go and a milkshake. The milkshake was consumed on the way home. It was not good. too liquidy and milky and not enough ice cream taste. That was the LEAST of our problems. We get home and open the desserts when i take the plastic ring off the strawberry shortcake to find it COVERED in MOLD. The strawberries looked rotten and were GREEN! it wasnt just like one strawberry had mold, ALL of them were COVERED in GREEN MOLD. We immediately got back in the car and drove back across DTLA back to the place to report this ASAP. Went to the manager to complain and find out how this is even possible because it was in their display fridge. Our money was rightfully returned but i wanted to know if they serve fresh desserts how can that even happen as berries do not ROT and grow MOLD in one day of business. That means they are either buying rotten moldy desserts from their distributer/baker or they are storing it all at wrong temperatures. Knowing mold, as i do professionally, i looked in the fridge to see if any others were contaminated and low and behold they had a nice berry tart on top shelf in full display with completely rotten, wilted, and MOLDY berries throughout the entire dessert. It was disgusting. We warned everyone in the restaurant to be careful with what they were eating because the manager and the workers were not telling everyone the fridge desserts had mold all over them. I have Pictures to prove the story. This is NOT OK and should NEVER happen at any place that serves food. This place needs an immediate health inspection. I have never seen this before at any bakery, restaurant, or anywhere that sells food. Never will i or any of my friends EVER step foot in this place again.

I love their little dessert waffle dishes here! And I mean it when I say little .. Or maybe the pictures I saw were just deceiving. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed their delicious waffle creations. They are about $6 for a decent size if youre just coming for dessert and not an empty stomach. I personally think it is more single-sized and not something you share, but that just might be my inner- fatass talking. I tried the mixed berries liege and the banana tiramisu. I loved both! The mixed berries liege is one of those "you cant go wrong" plates because who doesnt like berries and waffles together? My favorite part was the blackberry jasmine ice cream.. Soo good. The ice cream that came with the banana tiramisu was really good too. I forgot what it was, but it had a little crunch to it. Seating is pretty limited even though there is an upstairs "lounge" area. I would suggest trying to find street parking if you can, which is the good thing about going on a Sunday .. Free meter parking! I will return to try more goodies :) Side note: If you need to use the restroom, ask for the key by the register (an unnecessarily huge can with a USC key attached to it) or else youll stand outside the bathroom door forever like an idiot .. Like me :(

My bf and I ordered two waffles: a Belgian waffle with nutella, vanilla ice cream and strawberries. I believe it was called Syrup Special for around $6. The sugar liege waffle menu was extensive! All the liege waffles were $3 and we chose the caramel apple flavor. On our second visit, we chose the banana pecan liege waffle that was equally delicious. The wait was short and soon we were munching ravenously on the waffles. The Belgian waffle was soft and so fluffy with the melted vanilla ice cream, nutella and strawberries. However, the real winner was the liege waffle. While the Belgian waffle was initially thick, it soon became soggy with all the toppings. This was not the case with the liege waffle. The liege waffle remained crunchy even with the whipped cream and caramel drizzle. Though a smaller portion-size than the Belgian waffle, I found myself out-eating my bf on the liege waffle! For under $10, I cant think of any better dessert place in Los Angeles that truly gives you the most bang for your buck without sacrificing quality. You can order a brick toast or half-decent waffle from a tea shop from the San Gabriel Valley but the quality would not be nearly as good.

Ive lived in L.A. for ten years and Im finally writing my ceremonial Syrup review because this place is Awesome! For years I lived across the street from here and would come everyday for the coffee, for its time it was the only location in Downtown which sold Intelligentsia coffee. Walking here you WILL get stopped by a dozen homeless people, if you eat outside you WILL get creeped on by a million weirdos and asked for money by at least 20 others) but once youre inside, youre in heaven. If youre like me and have a special place in your hear for Nutella, try the Syrup Signature dessert waffle (they spare no space on your waffle and cake on the Nutella). Its disgusting in its own magically unhealthy and delicious way. The only reason Im taking one star off is the limited amount of seating, half of the time I come here theres never any room to sit. Half of the people occupying the tables are locals who live in the lofts surrounding this place who buy a cup of coffee and use the free Wifi for 4+ hours. If youre planning on coming here for a date (it is a great dessert date spot) plan on waiting at least 15 minutes for a seat, so get in the corner and get your mac on.

By far the best dessert place in DTLA! Not in the greatest location, but theyre open until midnight anyway so its a good place to hang out with friends late at night when everything else is closed. I used to come here more regularly when I was at USC, but since moving away I usually only stop by when I have to go downtown or when my friends and I want to hang out somewhere without having to spend a lot of money. Theyve raised their prices a bit since I started coming here, but everything is still worth the price. Their liege waffles are AMAZING. Get the banana tiramisu one with brown bread ice cream (they get their ice cream from Scoops) or the mixed berry one. They also have great crepes and Belgium waffles. I wouldnt recommend their ice cream sundaes -- way too rich and sweet. If youre in the mood for libations, they have some really tasty fruit iced teas. The blackberry mojito and blueberry Georgia peach are my two favourites. Ask for them lightly sweetened if you dont want diabetes after eating your waffle. Parking can be tough, and try not to walk around the area alone at night if youre a girl.

What a letdown. Has this place had some sort of change in management? The decline is so depressing. First off, the restroom was out of service for a while, and now is completely off limits to customers. What the...? So much for being able to spend evenings playing Jenga and/or studying in here now. Now that I think of it, theres hardly any Jenga sets left in the upstairs area anymore, either.. The first few times I came here, the staff was accommodating, welcoming, and sweet. I havent had such luck the last few times, getting service that I found to be very cold and unwelcoming. May as well just do self-service like so many other places if you cant have the warm interaction of another human! Another issue, they never seem to have any good dessert options anymore!! The display used to be full of different cakes and other pastries every time! The last several times, its been empty save for one or two items. What happened to this place? Sad to see it become what it is now. I hope they can get their act together.
