I went to a few bikes stores test road a few bikes. I did not feel there was anything special, but then I stoped by the Castro Valley Store. Every single bike I road there was dialed in. The gears on the bikes here shifted cleaner then any of the bikes stores I went to. I ended picking up my bike at CVC. Over the years I have all my service work done at this store. Its a small store, but they have a great selection of very high quality bikes and exceptional service. Maybe some day I wont be so picky, but for now I would not buy a bike or get service done from any other store in the East Bay.

This shop is much better than some of the surrounding, such as Cyclepath, and the Bicycle Garage, both of whom look like they cannot stock product enough to even warrant the shop size. Castro Valley Cyclery is well done, elegant, helpful, friendly and carried what I needed today, and seemed to stock bikes and parts that I would be back to shop for. Its only realy competition must be Eden, as nothing nearby seems decent.

100% trustworthy and honest repair shop, ultimately the service tech told me I could get the replacement part I needed at another shop and fix it myself, which I ultimately did. They get a 5 star review and a new customer because of their honesty and no pressure.

Best bike shop around. Bought two bikes from them. The owner helped us and was very nice and friendly. Anytime I have a question, they are quick to answer..except if you email them (they never respond). Dont stock too much inventory though.
