This used to be a good store to just browse and shop, but they pull stock on cool things and now they have jacked up prices ip to $14.99. I loved when it seriously was only a 99¢ price per item or less time period, but now with better selection of childrens toys, and even electronics (I bought a VR headset for $4.99 here and wireless Bluetooth big headphones here for same price, both near Xmas, so they sold out quickly). Sometimes their boxes of food looks dated or dated before dates were required to be labeled on boxes or even expiration dates must be nonexistent. I have seen some Fiddle Faddle boxes faded from sun bleaching somehow. Their fresh produce seems dirty somehow, as I find mold or weird dirt and bruises on almost most of it. They have the most filthy bathrooms their staff must lie straight up about visiting to clean, bc you have to self serve yourself any TP by grabbing a roll from a bag plopped sometimes luckily in one stall or on the floor, and other times there is none at all, no pap we towels for hand drying, and the floor and graffiti filled doors and stalls are just gross. I dont blame workers for faking going in there so it is hilarious to read their clipboard of employee signatures stating they did a complete check and restock at all, let alone more than daily. Overall, between this and their main competitor, Big Lots!, the store just right in their shopping center, I dont know what to recommend to strangers. They allow solicitation and panhandling in the front of the store and they have some big burly security person there usually. Hey, sometimes you find great weird things like hair extensions for $2.99, but after you see how fake the hair is, it will be worn out in about 2.99 wears anyway.

Had what I went for, plus, a very bizarre dollar store experience! --- in an old theatre or something --- there is an ornamental Greek theatre style ceiling dotted with helium happy face and birthday balloons. The remnants of a balcony makes it feel like we, who are shopping, are in fact the performers. Would be suitable for a David Lynch movie. The main detractors are the heat, the lack of music, and the whirring motor of something from above, but then again, it adds an eerie ominous feeling to the dollar store experience, so I wouldnt change it.

Lots of nice stuff for cheap. They even have produce! Go-to place for those on a budget. They have a wide selection of things, some of which are name brand. This location also has a beautiful ceiling that convinces me that it used to be an auditorium or church of some sort. The store can be a bit grungy and smell like urine, but it is a treasure trove of goodies if youre willing to look past it.

Its a 99¢ store, so theres not all that much to say. Its house in a cool old building which used to be a theater, which is nice to look at. Staff always seem on edge, place isnt overly clean but it has a lot of good staples at a very low price. Can be fun to see what weird/unusual things you can find here. A lot nicer than the West Oakland location for sure

Great dollar store, and honest to boot. I left an envelope with all my pay ($600+ dollars) with no name or writing on it, and they saved it, and didt touch a a dollar. Thanks, dollar store! Tones of great deals, they often have closeouts, where you can get tings for a dollar, that are selling for $5 or more elsewhere. changing inventory.

Its a dollar store, so its nice to have around when you need random dollar store items. That parts great! The reason I dinged it a couple stars is that the place has some problems. The biggest one is that they almost never have enough checkers so you can wait an absurdly long time.

Almost everything in here is a great deal. Definitely worth popping in to see if they have what you want. NOT worth buying anything if the line is long though. I feel like the lines have been getting longer over the last year, especially evenings and all day on the weekends.

Its one of the better 99 cent stores in the area. Selection of basic items is decent most of the time and you can sometimes find exceptional deals. The fresh fruit and vegetables section is small but you can always drive to Berkeley Bowl if you need something in particular.

Inside this massive refurbished theatre is everything you could possibly imagine for 99 cents. That makes a lot of the food questionable, but some items are totally fine. I got a cheap utensil holder that works great, and some aluminum foil that doesnt work so great.

The store is out of date and needs upgrades. Nice staples stock ups at low prices here. Parking is a mess, and the cashiers are very slow. Dont go in a hurry, be prepared to stand in line. They have good produce here!!! And everything is under a dollor.

Good selection and some rotating values. Two weeks ago they had 2.5lbs of name brand turkey lunch meat for 99cents weeks from expiration. The stocker said five cases gone in two hours though. You gotta be there at the right time.

For a discount store you would be surprised what you can get. I can often times find some decent produce and all my dried/canned goods. Saves alot of money on certain items. Not to mention it has a convenient location.

This place amazes me of what stuff you can pick up for about a dollar -1 star 4 its not necessarily the cleanest place that all said when youre looking for a deal this is the place to go hidden hidden gem of Berkeley.

1st place to shop for everything if i cant find what i need here i have to pay more somewhere else. I see things sold here for 99 cents that same day in a regular grocery store costing $3.00 or sometimes even more.

I usually LOVE this store! But I went there last week and was very upset that i found out its no longer the "99 cent only store" it says it in the store name....ONLY!!! SO WHY ARE THINGS NOW $1.99???????

Most days, you can snag great bargains here. Sometimes they even have organic produce and first label brands available. Occasionally theyre sold out of the good stuff and have mostly processed food.

As expected, merchandise is 99c (before tax) which is great, but expect long waits -- they dont nearly ever have enough cashiers, but I suppose thats the owners choice...

A lot of the produce there is really good and fresh. Im amazed at all the fruits and veggies you can buy for $0.99/lb (sometimes less)! Plus, they have some good snacks.
