I came from Maine and I am used to L.L.Bean (RT). I am not trying to make any legal comparison. But L.L.Bean always honors their products regardless of age, etc. you can show up with a backpack 10 years later and they would replace it. I knew REI from when I lived in California and remembered them being fantastic. I had an issue with some Keens I bought about 8 months ago. I called them. He said "Come down we will take care of it or replace it etc...whatever we can do for you." I got to the store and a very kind lady said I can help you here, whats the problem" And without explaining nearly anything except that I was unsatisfied she said go back and get something you like." I found an amazing pair of Merrells that were recommended to me by another very polite and in fact I was approached by two different people when the man was finished with another customer just to make sure I was satisfied. I was. The shoe the young lady picked out for me fits like no shoe I have ever worn. I have wide feet and as soon as I mentioned that...Bam! This is what you need! And she was right. I picked a more expensive shoe and she said "I think this will fit you better and be more to your liking, stronger bottom and more flexible." Boy was she right. And it didnt cost me a thing!!! If you know L.L.Bean and wished there was one near you. Its called R.E.I. The only reason they dont get 5 stars is because the store in Colorado Springs is a bit small, they dont have as huge a selection as some of the other R.E.I. stores but they are more than happy to order it for you. Definitely recommend R.E.I. if you want a quality product you pay for that you never have to worry about again, and make your feet feel wonderful! :)

I just wanted to say that in Colorado Springs where I live is very dog friendly. I have a new puppy that I am bonding with and bring everywhere I go. Short of a restaurant I can go anywhere with my new buddy. Even Safeway and Trader Joes. I was shocked to be turned away from REI. I spoke to a few people at the dog park about this, and they told me they have never been turned away by REI and didnt understand what happened. I called the store manager who told me that he changed the policy because some people have allergies and or are afraid of dogs. He said that they spend money at REI and the dog doesnt. I would guess very few people who have dog allergies or are afraid of dogs do much camping or hiking, since there are Dogs everywhere here. I wont deal with any company that has an intolerance to non violent dogs. Mine is a 4 month old Terrier poodle mix I just got from the pound. I would hope others who love dogs would follow me and no longer shop at REI.

Horrible Service I was shopping for a pair of hiking boots today. A young man started helping me and was extremely knowledgeable and steered me to boots similar to the ones which worked for me over the years. He brought me two sizes of two different models. But then he disappeared for a very long time. A woman sales clerk came by and tried to put the boots away. I showed which ones she could put away, but please leave the others because I was still evaluating them. I mentioned that a knowledgeable young man was helping me, but I hadnt seen him for a long time. She snottily said "we are a team and are all here to help...." ...and then walked away without helping me. I kept evaluating the shoes by walking around the store for about 10 minutes in each shoe, hoping that the young man would return. When I came back, the shoes were gone. The young man never returned, so I left. Will order Five Ten Camp Fours from Amazon!

Generally I love shopping at REI retailers, mostly because of the costumer service. I live in Denver and visisted both REI stores in the Denver Metro area for their 4th of July sales, and immediately Im greeted and asked if I needed help, usually I say Im just browsing, and this continues to happen 3-4 times through out my visit. But I went to the CO Springs location for the first time and it will be my last, based solely on how poor the service was. No greeting at the front door, no one came up and asked if I needed anything(which I did this time), and no one around when I was looking for aid. REIs in Denver: 5 stars, this one id give none if I could.

My husband and I bought all new snowboards and gear very late in the season. REI was the only place that still had a decent selection of equipment! We went back a few days later and saw that all the gear we had just bought was now on clearance. I casually asked a sales associate if we might be able to bring back our new, unused equipment for a price adjustment. He then went into our account and researched our purchases, adjusting all our purchases that were now on clearance and refunding us over $400! I dont know any other store that would have done this. REI is the best!

Its ok. The REI in Denver is amazing. The Colorado Springs REI never has what an outdoorsmen wants or needs. All of their skis and snowboards are for inbounds resort skiing and riding. They have no telemark equipment on site. The winter shop guys were jerks and had no clue what they were doing, they claimed they "needed" both boots for an alpine ski tune. Adequate amount of rock and ice climbing gear. Decent size apparel and foot ware section but the store is under staffed every time I go in. If you are looking for something at REI go to the Denver store.

My friend and I had the impulse to climb a mountain. We decided on Pikes Peak. Upon arrival in Colorado, everyone told us we were way in over our heads. Erik from REI was the only one to give us helpful info. He told us what the mountain was like, what gear we needed and about how long the hike would be. Thanks to Eriks help, we successfully climbed the mountain the very next morning from 1am-9am. He gave us a card and we will be in contact with him for every new mountain we tackle. Thanks Erik for putting your company on the map for us.

Its REI...whats not to love?! Ive been to many REI locations across the U.S. and one thing remains a constant: Helpful, knowledgeable employees. Aside from the stellar customer experience youll receive, they have the best gear available. Not only are REI branded products priced well and high quality, but the other brands offered also achieve the same level of quality. Whatever you need for the outdoors, youre going to find it at any REI, but if youre in Colorado Springs, you should swing by this location for your gear needs.

Garbage customer service. I waited for over 15 minutes for someone to help me find a pair of shoes and finally asked someone if they had anyone working in shoes for the company. When they did eventually look it was an obvious inconvenience for the lady with black hair and an upturned snooty nose. She told me their website is wrong and they dont actually carry a lot of that stuff in stock that was showing on their website and why I drove 50 miles to get to the store. Negative stars. Will never shop here again.
