This is a great store IF you understand their strategy. Most of the "sales" arent sales. Theyre sales PITCHES. A BBQ tools set (tongs, corn cob holders, etc) will say "$9.99 reg $39.99" and youll think: "thats a great deal!" Well, what they fail to tell you is that they never, ever sell that BBQ set at $39.99. They only sell it on sale, and its only on sale when its in stock. There are some real sales, especially on ammo and other consumables. Most of them are gimmicks, however, so check prices if you can before making a purchase. In the end, their prices are pretty good, even if theyre dressed-up to appear that theyre better than they actually are, and if you need some inexpensive sporting goods this is a great place to go with the limited selection we have in Humboldt County. Many of their products are cheap, flimsy garbage however, so choose and shop wisely. I give this store 5 stars, but only because I feel like I understand their methods and can come to terms with them. I can see how others may be concerned over deceptive sales if they came into the store not understanding that this has been Big 5s long-time strategy.

Went in to buy running shoes. Saw they had womens running shoes on sale. So I found a pair I liked. Once I got home I peeled off the "sale $44.99" sticker to find the originally priced "39.99" sticker underneath. Rip off. Only reason its a 2 star is because the lady at the counter was nice.

Big 5 Sporting Goods had an inversion table on sale for $100. It was not in stock, so they tried to sell me a different one for $130. I got a rain check, and when I called to find out if it came in, they hung up on me three times. They would not let me talk to the manager.

Huge selection, in all. Price brackets! I had been shopping for a few days unable to find what I was looking for until I. Got everything I needed at Big 5. Wish I had gone there first. Also the manager Tony was one of the most helpful strangers Id ever met.
