Its hard to review this popular Ice Cream store on South 2nd Street, but Ill try. My wife and I frequently go to the Purple Door and are usually pleased with our picks, however, tonight was the 4th visit in a row where they were out of waffle cones. We make the trip for their delicious frozen treats from our home in the Riverwest and what makes the trip special is getting two scoops in a waffle cone. Very disappointed Purple Door. The owner needs to increase the number of cones to accommodate the individuals who travel not only for the ice cream, but for the waffle cones as well. While in line that was the topic of discussion or should I say disappointment for the majority of customers. Businesses only get so many chances and word of mouth can only hurt a good reputation if steps arent taken to meet the expectations of the customer. So, my plea to you Purple Door is please increase production of the waffle cone. Success will last as long as you understand the need of your customers. If you ignore what your customer wants the customer will begin to stay away.

Even in its new location, Purple Door Ice Cream frequently has a line running out the front door. Upon trying a dish or cone of one of their unique flavors, it becomes very clear why. Purple Door makes standard ice cream flavors such as chocolate or vanilla, but where they shine is in their creation of unique and sometimes local specific variations that are almost invariably spot on in their flavor recreations. A few of my favorites are Whisky, Brandy Old Fashioned, and simple Peanut Butter, but they have far out flavors ranging from Lemon Cardamom to Garam Masala to Cheesecake. There are seasonal flavors for any palette. Flavors wouldnt be worth much without ice cream that is well made, but luckily Purple Doors ice cream is some of the creamiest, smoothest and richest ice cream I have had. Purple Door is a place I bring out of town guests to show off what our area has to offer. Dont miss it.

Menu contains several ambiguous items, described below based on what I remember the attendant telling me: Sundae: 1 or 2 scoops with 2 toppings included in the price. Door Galore Sundae: As sundae, but with a fudge dipped waffle cone included as well. Single split: Single scoop with two flavors included. Flight: Four half scoops Ice cream Joe: Root beer float with coffee in place of root beer Place also offers kiddie scoops, single scoops, double scoops, cones, banana splits, milkshakes, and root beer floats. There was a long line out the door, but i got through it in about 15 minutes. Ice cream was delicious- got vanilla and caramel peanut on a sundae with peanuts and hot fudge. Would go again. Fresh and sufficient serving sizes.

The star of the show! Our wedding was absolutely incredible but the ice cream sandwiches that we had from Purple Door really put it over the top. We chose to do four different flavor combinations of ice cream sandwiches that were served (passed style) to our guests shortly after dinner. They are bite size and can easily be eaten without any mess. Our guests were surprised when trays came around and even more excited to find out it was purple door ice cream (a Milwaukee staple). The people at Purple Door were more than accommodating to work with and the ice cream taste testing was by far the best part of wedding planning! They really know what they are doing and have it down to a science. Thank you for being apart of our wedding!

So I went to purple door because I had heard big things about it and how great there ice cream was.So I thought I would take my son to check the place out I got a shake and my son wanted one two except hes lactose intolerant. He was little bummed out when he couldnt have one, until the young man at the counter told him he could have a "Sorbet Soda" I had no clue what it was he explained as being it much similar to a shake but for people who were lactose intolerant or just didnt like ice cream. I thought it was very nice that he wanted to help my son out.My son did enjoy his lemon sorbet soda in fact he wanted ANOTHER ONE.The young man was very nice he even let me try as many flavors as I wanted. I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK

I was so excited to go in and try this place. I asked for sea salt as my topping. The cashier was NOT friendly. And when I got my ice-cream the girl had poured SO MUCH sea salt on it that all I could taste was the salt. I ended up throwing my $5 bowl of ice-cream in the trash. I cant imagine how she thought that dumping that much salt on it would make edible. Im SO disappointed because the ice cream I sampled tasted delicious and I wanted to enjoy it. Plus it wasnt inexpensive either. What a waste! They should also work on training their employees to actually be friendly. Id like to revisit it sometime and see if it will be a better experience but this visit was a huge fail.

Ive been to this ice cream joint about 5 times now and I am never disappointed! The ice cream is so creamy and you can really taste all the flavors. My friend and I were greedy so we got four flavors: strawberry, sweet cookie and creme, banana and caramel, and churro. -The strawberry tastes so fresh and is really refreshing. Every bite was light and really flavorful! -The cookie and creme was the most surprising, unlike most cookie and creme flavors, the Oreos tasted really creamy and tasted infused with the ice cream! -banana/caramel and churro were really good but a little outshines by the other two.

This ice cream shop is good... Really good. However, I wish the owners of Purple Door would check out MilkJam creamery in Minneapolis. It has some seriously mind-blowing flavors & their lines are around the block. Consider it a collaborative business relations trip. MKE is ready for flavors that go light-years beyond Kopps, Leons & Gilles. And if thats your only flavor competition, then your taste buds will be permanently set on "fair to midlin," if I may use a Wisconsin phrase. I do love Purple Door. Their ice cream sandwiches are to die for! I just crave more from their creative minds.

Over 16 rotating flavours, many which use local ingredients from places like Stone Creek Coffee Mocha and Anodyne espresso, Great Lakes Distillery, Lakefront Brewery. They give samples and have a happy atmosphere that makes adults feel like happy little kids. The waffle cone is homemade and amazing. A great place to also spend some time for meeting friends or even a date with yourself! Example flavours: Earl Grey with Biscuits, Spicy Chocolate, Double malted chocolate, Honey Vanilla, Raspberry Green Tea!

They took out a full newspaper spread in the Journal Sentinel advertising this innovative new flavor called Eastside Dark in conjunction with my favorite Milwaukee brewery. So we make the trip down to try it out, only to be told that they are not serving that flavor! I dont know how you could put in for the advertising, and then not have it available. Service wasnt particularly friendly either. We were very disappointed.

As a frequent customer to Purple Door ice cream I can attest to their quality and enthusiastic approach to ice cream flavors. I have been a consumer (in both meanings of the word) of theirs since they were in the Clock Shadow Creamery. Always busy weather Winter or Summer, ample seating outside, and staff are very attentive. Great ice cream cakes as well. Pricey, but you get what you pay for: joy.
