These stores have gotten progressively worse over the last couple years. Their offers on books are insulting. They make plenty on these books you sell. When people object to the offer the responses are condescending and obnoxious. The store can sell and does sell your items at large margin. You’d be doing a far better service to donate your materials to a worthy cause then lining the pockets of this store who “can’t sell your items” but sell them anyway at large profit. 3 bankers boxes of good condition hardcover classic titles for 1 dollar?!?!?! Those books were on the shelf for 20 bucks apiece when I came back and they did indeed sell and quite quickly. I checked on them. Their prices increase and their claims that “out of print” means worth a bundle is just utter nonsense. Store employees use the store for their own E-bay putting out junky board games and other "collectibles" and asking absurdly high prices for them. Several are lying to customers about condition and rarity of items often. I purchased one game that was missing 90 percent of the pieces. Why didnt I look first? because I assumed this place was reputable(NOT!) and the box was sealed shut by scotch tape in many places. the was the last straw. Cataloguing of books gets sloppier and excuses for not having an inventory list are lame. Unusable audio/visual items show up with such frequency I stopped buying them at all. Several books I have purchased were scribbled in, and otherwise defaced. These stores have become very sloppy and increasingly greedy. I have gone from highly recommending these places to people to warning them about being ripped off by the stores.

100% condescending and obnoxious. The employees never help me when I ask for help. They always say "Whatever is on our shelves is what we have". ... great, you couldnt even bother looking with me?... I always feel like when I ask about anything I am somehow inconveniencing them. They say they go through weeks of training but are they just being trained to be elitist jerks? Ontop of that, the prices they offer to buy items off of customers is a joke. I ended up donating them to the library instead because Id rather have people read my books and watch my dvds for free rather than the insulting amount of money HPB offered me for good condition popular books/dvds. Their video game section is always overpriced too. Madden 97 might have been $30 when it came out but it shouldnt cost $25 now! Apparently depreciation only matters when they buy something from us and it doesnt exist when it comes to items they are selling to us. Overall this store makes me feel dirty and I will not be returning until I see new staff that has been properly trained to know that a job is not something you just show up for a few hours and do. You have to provide a good experience for the customer- or atleast not a bad one- which I have received every single time.

I read the previous reviews but I would have to disagree with what they are saying. Every time I have been in there to trade in books I have gotten a fair amount back. The truth is that the books were just sitting in my basement or closet so I was not using them anyways. This way someone else can buy my books and I get a little bit of cash. As for the atmosphere of the store, I love it. I can bring my son in there and they have a great childrens area where he will hang out. As for me they have a great selection and free coffee. I would definitely recommend this store!

"So this is love? Ba-bum ba-bum. So this... is love......." This miiiiight be my favorite store. Like -- of all stores ever. I dont know. Ill think on it some more. Its at least in my top five. Just walking in the door makes me feel happier. Looking out over the rows upon rows of shelves -- its like surveying a mountain range I can climb for stories. And the prices are great!! Every year I get a gift card for HPB from my brother and his wife, guaranteeing them a place in my will. Thanks bro. To thee I bequeath my first editions.

Rude! I used to love this store. I went in with a giant box of never read books to sell and the lady was so condescending. Gave me a joke of a low offer and then when I asked about certain books, she was a total jerk about it. Muttering rude comments under her breath. I didnt expect a ton of money, but I expected to not have to be insulted. Oh look at you on your high horse bookstore lady, wielding all that majestic power.

Alright place to BUY. NEVER, EVER SELL ANYTHING HERE. Their offers are downright insulting. Seriously. Youll be lucky to get 50 cents per book, no matter what it is or in what condition. The employees are unhelpful, pretentious "hipsters". Will never shop here again knowing how badly folks are being screwed out of their books just so Half Price can turn a tremendous profit. Absolutely shameful.

Even if your not a bookworm, your sure to find something to peak your interest. The only thing that sucks is that they arent abble to chec other stores inventory or ship from store to store. A library grade networked inventory system would make this a five, but Im sure it would also drive up the price of doing business. (Enter college programming student with big heart and free time?)

As all Half Price Books, this one wants you to overspend on items that are marked well above "half price". A CD I bought elsewhere for $30, they priced at $50. You can find an occasional gem, but, know your product and take your time. The checkout person had 0 charisma, and almost seemed to hate me just for being there. Not friendly. Clean and full of product.

The man that I handed my books and dvds too did not even look at them. Just gave me the stink eye and told me hed give me $1 for all of it. These people seem to believe it is alright to insult people. Ive now withdrawn from commercial and/or social relations with them as a punishment or protest.

Staff was rude, didnt bother to help. Brought in items to sell and was made a very low offer and only to see it marked up 200%. Big Scam. I dont recommend anyone to come here to sell and shop. I would rather spent my hard earned dollars at a small shop were atleast they are more reasonable.

My husband and I shop here all the time. We bring our books in to get them out of our house as well. The prices they give you arent that great, but I dont buy books based on their re-sale value. I live in the clearance section since I read so much. Great place!!

We stop in from time to time to buy and sell books. It can get busy and take a while to have our books appraised but we usually have something else in the area to do anyway so we just come back a short while later. The employees tend to be courteous.
