Worst Whole Foods ever. Ive shopped at the University Place Whole Foods, regularly, since the opening last May. Prior to May I would drive to the Whole Foods in Bellevue. The University Place Whole Foods has less then half the selection of Bellevue, even less then Lynwood. Ive returned expired items 6 times. Now I have to check every item before purchase. I cant believe how much expired product is on their shelves. The Deli is incredibly inconsistent. From slicing the WRONG type of meat, to piling all the meat in the bag without paper in between. Terrible. The pizza and hot bar are also very inconsistent. There seems to be no standard to follow, each employee does it differently, so you dont know what to expect. Youll get a pizza covered in burnt basil, Indian food drowned in salt or an awesome pizza and great chicken tandoori. Its just never the same. Thats the main point. I used to rely on Whole Foods for quality and consistency. The University Place Whole Foods offers very little of that, yet they charge the same. Its a big dissapointment for me, but I will continue to shop there. Just make sure to check the expiration dates, check your meat from the deli, ask what day the bread was baked, avoid whole pizzas to go, and dont eat from the hot bar, disgusting.

Mediocre. I questioned Whole Foods decision to bring their first store in the South Sound to University Place - a lovely little area that is - at this time - like a retirement village and difficult for other parts of Tacoma to get to. Whole Foods thought "people with money" apparently when they picked the area...but this is not where foodies congregate. The mediocre business they are experiencing is evidenced by the limited selections in their "claim to fame" department: prepared foods. They have a meager assortment that is not replenished frequently. I picked up soup at 1 in the afternoon...one kettle was already pulled, several were almost empty and looked as if theyd started half full. The salad bar is limited. Prepared salads are fairly generic. The biggest food on offering at this branch is pizza. Boring! For more exotic prepped food, go to Metropolitan Market. Produce section has nothing on Trader Joes just one block south. Normally it would...but this was the WRONG area to put this store. Why didnt you have the faith and desire to help Tacoma & move downtown, WF? You would anchor whatever area down there you chose. This branch of WF is more a half-baked grab at money than anything innovative, helpful or interesting.

The day I discovered this place and the hidden pizza shop inside of it was a day that went from bad to ridiculously perfect. Located within this incredible super market is a delicious coffee shop, a bakery section with an assortment of vegan options (for all you veganites out there craving rich chocolate pastries), and of course an amazingly tasty pizza bar. If you decide to check this place out, spend a few extra bucks for at least one slice of their pizza pies, I personally recommend the margherita. This grocery store has ridiculously healthy options to choose from. Keep in mind, with the store being a Whole Foods franchise, you are going to be paying more (much more sometimes) for your goods, but if you are what you eat, then invest in healthy/good stuff-- and this place has the healthy/good stuff. The stores location is great, as there are quite a number of other fascinating shops and super markets all located within a couple miles. There is even a parking garage for the stores customers. Its a fantastic place, and if I am even remotely travelling through the area I find a way to end up here.

Whole Foods has such an amazing variety of foods, from a burrito bar to fresh pastries theres always something delicious being cooked up. Personal staple of mine is the bacon, if you get there before 11:30 their breakfast bar includes bacon. Their bacon here is so delicious and very light so paying by the pound you can get 5 or 6 strips of bacon for under two bucks! Then simply go over to the coffee/bagel counter where you can order your morning cup of joe and a bagel with butter to put the bacon in. Heavenly! All the food is great and the seating areas are comfortable and spacious. The only downside here is that it can be expensive, very expensive at times... so if youre shopping on a tight budget you might want to pass this one by.... but of course dont forget they do have great deals! So keep an eye on their news pamphlets for whats on sale. If you have any sort of gluten intolerance or just have to watch the ingredients of what you eat this is a good place to find items with the ingredients clearly spelled out!

This place now has two less costumers. It was bad enough that they changed the food bar and there is nothing I can eat there anymore. (Food allergies ) but we drive an hour + to get there to buy (32oz) soy free vegenaise. Which they now no longer carry. I know it was popular because sometimes they would only have one, or were sold out . Someone said they wondered if it had something to do with the amazon buy out. Doesnt matter we are not going to drive 1 +hours to go there again . Will shop Marlenes . They (Marlenes) said if I call they will hold some or order some and if I buy a case (6 which I usually buy that much) they will give q 10% discount. Whole foods didnt even offer to order it for us. Marlenes is a tad but more expensive. But they are a whole lot more helpful.

Though there are other, less pricey natural food stores to frequent in the Puget sound area, Whole Foods is a nice grocery "treat" when Ive got a bigger budget. Plus their hot/to-go food area is outstanding! Their bulk section has everything a person could want, they have high quality goods, and its situated in a nice area. For a slow afternoon, I like to take my time, peruse interesting seasonal veggies, and have lunch with a book. An unexpected place to have a little breather while still being around the buzz of people coming and going.

I could drink the smoothies everyday and be happy. Juice bar employees are extremely helpful in finding what I (and others) are really looking for which is so so nice. Coffee bar also has every item used Organic and most of the time unsweetened, dont charge more for alternative milks, plus pretty generous on their shot portions unlike most places. Dont let negative reviews steer you away, Ive never gone in and not found at least something for lunch that I was pleased with.

PLEASE train all your cashiers to know how to substract the tare weight of bags or jars on the machine. Seems nobody knows how to do this basic skill, and as a customer, I dont want a cashier and a bag packing staff to both look at me when there is an issue on their end and make me to tell them how to do their job. Pressuring me and making me feel guilty for not knowing how to do their job and for making other customers wait because they are incompetent

Like it a lot. The store is well placed in the neighborhood. The partking is both indoor and outdoor. The arrangemet of the store is beautiful. THe offerings are varied and healthy. The buffet is wonderful. Pastry bar, self serve pizza made in house. With seating indoors and out. even a wonderful juice bar in the vestibule. Its a little pricey for my buget but its a healthy place to splurge on healthy and tasty alternatives.
