Lacks communication and trustworthy. Brought my sons old Trek MT220 bike in to order a broken hanger for the rear derailleur. Thats the small 2 " piece of metal that attaches the rear derailleur to the back of the bike via a hex nut. We were given a quote over the phone for $30.00 for parts and the installation will be done complimentary . We were informed that our bike was in good operating condition. So no tuning was necessary. During the conversation, we specifically indicated that the bike is too old to worth any repairs more that the quoted $30.00. When we picked up our bike, the amount being charged was closed to $50.00 (that is nearly half the price of the bike s worth). The part was $24.99 + $10.00 installation fee + $18.00 tuning fee. I am not sure why this information was not provided to us before hand via text or email (they were able to text us to let us know that the bike was ready for pick up). After voicing our concerns, theyve reduced the cost down to $36.00. Yes, $36.00 for a small piece of metal that worth $5.00 on ebay and requires the bolting of one single nut and one mounting screw. It is hard to trust these guys with any verbal commitment. We were also told that the bike will be done in two days. It took them five. The staff is quite nice, but the way the business is being run is not direct and up front. Shadyyyyy.

Thought I was going to have a mixed experience here. Talked to them via phone for a couple weeks since I dont live in the DC area. Very responsive... Made a big purchase - brand new Gary Fisher Roscoe II mountain bike and lots of gear. Live overseas and only had several hours to complete the purchase, pack up the bike and catch a flight. Also needed some work done - trim handlebars, add bar ends, etc. At first the bike mechanics seemed a little peeved that I was dumping this all on them at 5 pm on a Friday night (understandable), but Christoper stepped up big time and gave me great service. In their defense, they did have other customers and I was definitely a high-maintenance customer for this purchase. Not only did I have to get the bike squared away, but then had to pack it up in a Thule airline shipping case to put on an international flight. They ordered almost everything I asked for in advance, had the bike prepped to go, broke it down for me to put in the shipping case, gave me instructions on all proper maintenance... All in all, a 5 star experience. I would highly recommend them.

I had purchased around $ 200 worth of accessories the week before on my first visit to Bike Lane and one small part had to be returned, which I did yesterday 09/18/16. I stood at the counter for quite some time, 4 to 5 minutes while the staff finished watching the Redskins game on the big flat screen TV behind the counter. I didnt say anything, but they were aware of my presence. Once the game clock went to zero the employee running the register said "I can help you now, sorry you had to wait." That was an acknowledgement that the game was more important than the customer. I own my own retail business and there is no way I would ever keep a customer waiting while the football game was winding up This doesnt mean its a bad shop, but it DOES mean they need to get their priorities in order. I wont be inclined to return but may some time in the future - but certainly not during football Sundays.

I first became acquainted with The Bike Lane when I signed up at the last minute for Cyclefest 2009. I paid $10 bucks and got more goodies than I’ve ever seen – t-shirt, samples galore, maps, stickers – not to mention participation in a great 40-mile group ride! And, after the ride, an outstanding spread, including pizza (a first for me at a cycle event). Everyone who represented The Bike Lane was friendly and helpful (even helped me fix my first flat in many years of riding) and not a hint of bike snobbery among them. It was that experience of a truly locally-dedicated bike shop that led me (out of my way) to their shop the following day. I was not disappointed and received great service and help on a range of issues. I can get stuff cheaper on-line, but I’d rather support this dedicated shop. Kudos to Todd (the owner who helped me out that day) and the whole gang.

Exceptional service! I want to thank the staff (Alec and Patrick) for what I consider above and beyond service. I had come from out of town for a group MTB ride in the area and experienced some mechanical issues. I stopped by The Bike Lane and was waiting outside until the shop opened. Alec saw me and asked if I was having problems with my bike. I explained that I had driven over an hour and didnt want to miss my group ride. He said, no worries, well get you fixed. He opened the shop early. Patrick (mechanic) not only fixed my problem but also noticed another issue and fixed that as well. They had me up and running in 15 minutes. I will be recommending the shop to any cyclists who value great service, knowledgeable staff, and prompt service.

This is a GREAT local bike shop. The service and staff are excellent. You really get the feel of a small, community-centric shop. The people are friendly, the staff tend to remember your name, just a great all-around experience. I recently purchased a road bike from The Bike Lane and went in to have it fitted. I worked primarily with Jen who clearly knows what shes doing. Very friendly, very knowledgeable, and very helpful. The shop is a little on the smaller side so they may not have the same variety on-hand that some of the larger chain stores have but I would gladly wait and have The Bike Lane order what I need for me than go to one of the larger stores. Highly recommend!

I first started going to the Bike Lane in August 2011 after moving down from Germantown. I have been cycling for 26 years now and I have never been to a better bike shop. The mechanics they have are the best and they really know their stuff. I have learned alot from them. Every time I go there I am greeted by an employee with a hello or how are you today. This place is first class all the way. I went to Performance for several years and they do not have very good mechanics. In reference to another review, they are not elitists who look down on you. Just about every bike store you go to has high prices on merchandise. If you do not like it then go somewhere else.

Bought my first bike from them over 8 yrs ago, a 7300 hybrid for casual riding, and progressively move up to move serious road cycling. I had several series for road bikes and currently on a high end warrantied replacement Madone 5.9. My experience with this group has always been the same, no matter what bike you ride. I like the quick turn around service they have with their store bought bikes for small adjustment, it makes you a loyal customer. They really get to learn your riding experience as well. The owner an avid cyclist, is customer service driven and reason of its small business success. Recognized in the VA cycling community as reputable bike store
