The first time I came here- they hooked me up with a great repair deal- fixed a tire, and tuned up the bike for about 25 bucks, I got this bike out of the garbage. Well, its been riding great. I took it in, added some pedals, got new breaks. They charged me 180 bucks- same aloof service. Mischarged me and tried to add on 30 more dollars. Anyway, rode the bike one time and the tire blew out again. The new breaks are shaky and not secure and I believe they are riding too high on the tire. I asked another bicyclist whether this was fine- they said no- that is probably what caused the blow out. I took it back there and told them that the breaks they installed were loose and it was likely to have caused the blowout. The guy just took the wheel off the tire, said it was a plastic strip inside the rim, charged me 5 bucks for the plastic strip, 15 dollars to replace the tube and sent me on my way with a 22 dollar charge- not even taking a look at the breaks or how they ride- no explanations, see ya later. Well see if the tire pops again. The off-rode extreme cyclist gang is a sub-culture. I get it-got a rep to maintain amongst us commuter cyclist squares. But thats no excuse for subpar service. I will bump up my rating to good if it turns out he was right. But doubts remain and the aloofness doesnt help...

I was very pleased with the customer service I received at The Bike Lane in Reston. I had previously visited A-1 cycles in Herndon and had a bad experience. I was looking to install a new component set for my racing bike, but I dont have much mechanic/ repair experience. The staff here treated me with respect and did not look down on me for my lack of experience or proper tools. They advised me about which tools I would need to buy (ended up just being a hex wrench set), and helped me out with measuring and cutting the cable housing, which would have required buying a special cutting tool that I would have only used once (saved $35, plus they used their grinder to smooth and flatten). They ended up charging me only $10 for the labor, and when I came back a week later to make sure I had done everything right, they double check everything, made some adjustments, and didnt charge me anything. The staff there made me feel confident that I could do the work on my own, and didnt make me give up the bike for a few days while they installed the parts. They were pleasant and did the work right away while I stood there probing them with questions. Overall I was very pleased with the customer service there, and this will be my local shop for long to come, even though A-1 cycling is closer to my home.

The Reston Bike Lane is my favorite bike shop. In general, theyre friendly and helpful. I think their service department is the best ever. Theyre skillful and cheaper than other places Ive been. In the spring when everyone is digging their bikes out, the service can be backed up. But if its a small job (and parts dont need to be ordered), theyll do stuff while you wait. My experience is different than some of the other reviewers. I generally find the staff very attentive to make sure the customers arent ignored. No place is perfect and sometimes complicated purchases have been delayed by the staff trying to manage their multiple customers. Its not the only decent shop in the area, but its still my favorite. Theyre really gone above and beyond for me time and again.

I bought my latest road bike here. Great shop with very knowledgeable staff. They ride what they sell. Turns out that my previous bike did not fit me well...after I got the new one my wife said "hey you dont ride bowlegged any more". (The old one was a Trek 2200 road bike from a different shop that they set up and adjusted for me, but not correctly.) They also pushed me into buying bib shorts...I had never wanted them and thought it was just a way to sell me $125 shorts. Well, I love them. Ten times more comfortable. I have worn the $25 bike shorts...they dont last a season and dont help you where it hurts. Get the bibs. So they are going to be honest with you and maybe suggest something expensive but it will be worth it in the long run.

With all of the changing standards in hubs, bottom brackets, chain rings, cog counts, suspension, and so on, The Bike Lane mechanics stay super on top of things. I have had multiple custom bike builds completed along with a few different wheel builds. For new bike purchases or custom bike builds or wheel builds, free lifetime touchups. One example was with a new full carbon Superfly, after breaking it in, must have made noises from 5 different locations. Took it in, got it back, dead silent, no charge. Similarly, after breaking in a new rear mtn bike wheel, some minor spoke tension release/lateral trueness was off, one touch up for free and wheel has been true ever sense (years of racing).

This is my favorite Bike store in Northern Virginia - super selection, great maintenance team, owners and this superb team supports the community in a host of events ranging from biking events, races and trail construction/maintenance. 8 of our 9 bikes are from this 2 store chain of stores. Keep up the great work and congratulations again for making Bicycling Magazines Best Bike Shops list in the October 2011 issue!!! The Rocky Gap and Cyclo Racing is next for our family -- see you there and thanks again!

I brought my mountain bike to this shop for an upgrade from rim brakes to disc brakes, which involved a brake lever upgrade as well. I got great advice on which equipment to select (went hydraulic). The mechanics did great work and I got my bike back in a reasonable time. My brakes where well adjusted and everythings worked well. I have been back multiple times; the folks are friendly and enthusiastic about selling bikes. Im glad I found The Bike Lane.

I have since been reimbursed for the rental. I appreciate a business that stands by there product. Thanks! I rented a bike for the day for $40. Two issues. The front brakes rub the tire, had to disconnect the brakes to ride. The lower gears simply did not work., hard to get up the hills. The staff was not interested in hearing about the issues.

I went to the Bike Lane, and I thought they were really nice. The guy who helped me really knows a lot about bikes. He gave my bike a tuneup and changed my tires for me. I got the impression he wanted me to enjoy my bike for a long time. He didnt try to sell me anything. He gave me good advice. Ill definitely go back there. If I need to.

Disappointed. Had a front brake mechanical on my bike commute home from work. "Friendly neighborhood bike shop" fixed in seconds with a few turns of hex wrench.....and $15. Offered to do the same on the back brake....for another $15. Took longer to invoice and pay than the adjustment itself. On bike to work day, no less.

Horrible experience. My bike broke three times in one week and I paid for them to fix it three times and every time they gave me no advice or reason to why my bike broke. They just took my money three times, just to have me come back and take my money again. They were not helpful at all and have lost my buissness.
