Isnt it obvious that Safeway doesnt care about their customers. Its apparent that anyone who gives this place 5 stars either works there or knows someone who does. And with the 5 stars they typically dont tell the "SO CALLED" ""GREAT"" experience because it doesnt exist. Aside from the horrible parking, YES the long lines are the biggest complaint, Ive complained to the store manager and his ghetto response was pretty vague and typical excuse of, my employee called in or they took out my self checkouts. Well if thats the case can you take the rest of the idiot cashiers and tell them to speed up the process, no one needs to stand in line and listen to your conversation on the price of eggs this week...STFU!!! and keep the line moving and down. Im glad safeway is okay with this and can sleep at night knowing they put out crappy service. And the people who continue to go there are just as dumb for doing so. These people must have no life and enjoy spending hours in a store that is expensive, lack products, and their sales suck. Who needs to get two family size bags of chips $6 yayy what a deal. Ill never go there again and trust me I will tell others not to either. I have options so no need to spend my time in line there are better places to shop. Harris Teeter is the best so far. Reston Town Center has one thats worth going to. At there is places out there that care for their customers and not the dollar. Keep standing in line idiots at least youre not out on the road clogging that up with your stupidity!! "F" Safeway...nothing but garbage!!

After visiting this Safeway today, I will probably NEVER shop there again. I was waiting in line when a cashier whose tag read "Dena Byrd" announced that her lane was open and for customers to enter. One white male enter her line (he mayve had 2-3 items) and I proceeded to enter behind him. As I reach her lane, she steps out in front of me and motions for a white customer in the next lane to enter her lane in front of me. The customer declined and noted that the full cart beside them didnt belong to them. Instead of allowing me to enter the lane, she still stood in front me to prevent me from entering and WAITED until the white woman with a cart full of groceries returned and motioned for her to enter the lane in front me of me. I was both livid and embarrassed as other customers could see that I, an African-American professional young woman, stood there holding a basket full of groceries and was forced to wait as she stands as a human blockade in front of me. Frustrated, I returned to the lane I was previously in and paid for my items there. Needless to say, I will NOT return to this Safeway. This was my first and only time experiencing such blatant disrespect, which unfortunately I believe to be racially motivated.

I dont usually write reviews and though this is mostly negative, I feel Safeway at South Lakes NEEDS to hear this. Check out lines are sooo long (like 20 minute lines), this store is understaffed all the time, self check-outs removed, post Albertsons buyout. The store is generally a mess, shelves are disorganized and obviously no one cares about stocking here. In addition the store on the overall is dirty if not filthy in places. From insects in the bakery trays to dirt and debris in the cold food shelves as well as random bad smells around the store (think rotten smells and dirty bathrooms). I dont think anyone cares about this store, it is obvious. I dont understand how other Safeways are nice, clean and organized and this one isnt, well yes I do, total MISMANAGEMENT. I would not shop here except out of pure convenience to my home.

**The self-checkouts have been removed!!** Friendly staff at all of the counters, if not the fastest service. Max, Susan, and William are always professional and very helpful. So why dock two stars? Well if you were already irked by the long lines, youll be pleased to hear they just got longer. **The self-checkouts have been removed!!** and replaced with two regular registers. This wouldnt be an issue with proper staffing, except they cut four functioning registers and at most have four human registers open at any time. The wait time just quadrupled, even during off hours now its a while as they also have a stamp promo running. What a wonderful change just before the holidays. Thankfully other stores in the area have grocery pickup, so I only go to this safeway now if its an urgent or last-minute sundry item.

This store is poorly managed both locally and regionally. This location has poor produce that is often spoiled, long checkout lines, poor lighting makes the store look dirty and unappetizing, poor checkers (with the exception of a couple good old timers), limited inventory, and often meats like hamburger are not available. Recently they closed one of the main front doors (most convenient) to prevent crime. Come on, there must be a more creative solution than closing 1/2 the doors to the store. Now they have removed customer comment cards from the cash registers. Corporate management (not regional) should take control of this valuable store in this affluent area. Safeway can do better job.

This is possibly the worst grocery store I have ever been in. I have lived near this store for 16 years and in the last year alone have had some very bad experiences. Had a cashier who was obviously very ill with some kind of respiratory flu or virus coughing terribly on everything I purchased. Everytime there is an excrutiatingly long wait to check out. Yesterday as I was waiting almost 15 mins in line I noticed the brown roses for sale in the pot next to the line. Check the sell by dates on anything you purchase there as they are not good at refreshing perishable inventory. Prices high, service nearly non-existent. Gross at times. I will not go near this place again.

This store was already kind of a mess to begin with, but over the last year theyve started doing all kinds of dumb things to "combat crime"(there were shoplifting problems last year), not the least of which is completely removing the self checkout, which wouldnt be a problem if they actually had staff to make up for it, but they dont, so waits are awful(that being said, most of the staff are very nice people). They also lock down one of the doors after sundown and harass you if you bring a bag in. Overall, its really not worth going in anymore, it takes too long, and the CVS across the parking lot is generally better anyway.

Every time I enter the store, its a disappointment. The lines are always ridiculously long, partially because of the lack of help and partially because the employees do not have a sense of urgency. I understand that you cant be on your A-game 100% of the time, but when you have long lines, pick up the damn pace! One of the cashiers is a very nice guy, but hes more focused on being a social butterfly than doing his job. There is one self-checkout area with 4 registers where it seems that one is always down. The convenience of this location does not make up for the hassle of going inside this store.
