First, Dr. Easton was great, as was the person who conducted most of the eye exam. HOWEVER! I made an appt 2 weeks in advance and explained to the receptionist that I was leaving my previous eye dr because he did not accept my new insurance for eye exams. The receptionist insured that they did accept my insurance and she proceeded to ask me what type of appt I was making; I said again, and EYE EXAM for myself, my daughter and my husband. After being there for 2 hours, I was told I had to pay $217; I knew this was weird but I had to rush back to Lake Monticello to pick up my youngest from preschool on time. So I paid. After finally getting a moment to crunch numbers I realized that I had paid FULL PRICE for the appts. I feel I was mislead and duped into coming into their office and then forced to pay full amount for something they knew wasnt covered under the insurance # I had given to them prior to the appt. They called me to confirm the appt, never mentioned this was not covered. The whole reason why I left my previous dr was because he discovered my insurance did not cover exams at his office and they notified me BEFORE THE APPT. because thats what all of the drs do prior to the appts or at least that has been my experience. I am a mother of 3 with a husband, I have had dealings with dentists offices, pediatrics, plastic surgeons, internal med offices and NEVER HAS SOMETHING LIKE THIS COME UP. I was ALWAYS informed PRIOR to the visits what was covered, what was not and then it was up to me to figure out what I wanted to do. Had I known prior to the appt that this was not covered, I would have called another drs office on the long list on my insurance companys website, which was where I found the Charlottesville Eye Assocs information. This is a very bad way of doing business and I hope anyone who deals with this office covers their bases or just does not go. As a mother of 3, and a FT student where my husband is the only one that works, this has a big effect on our funds as they are very limited as it is. I am so disgusted with this office and I hope no one else has this experience.

I called Charlottesville Eye associates to make an appointment beacuse they were listed on my VISION insurance website. I confirmed that they would take my VISION insurance when I made the appoinment. The day of my appointment, I confirmed again. I also clarified that I had to go to work and did not want to be dilated as I did not want to be blind for the rest of the day. They put some drops in for dry eye and suddenly my vision is going blurry... they dilated! Clearly grabbed the wrong drops! I stayed calm and decided to make the most of it. The doctor told me the vision in my one eye was worsening but I didnt need glasses (despite other indicators of headache, age, and the opinion of other doctors.) I figured the day was a waste of time but good thing I had insurance, I will just go to another doctor. I go to the front desk and she gives me a bill and I cant read it because they dilated me. I argue that I will come back the next day when I can see. She tells me it is for 2.5 times as much as my copay for my insurance. I tell her that I confirmed that they take my insurance and she said they do not take vision insurance, just health insurance!!! Since I had confirmed multiple times that they took my vision insurance, I became a bit frustrated. I worked as a medical biller in college so I understand how the job works. I paid the bill for this ridiculous amount and decided they werent worth it. They clearly neede dthe money more than me. I wish this was the end of it, but no. Five months after my appointment, I receive a bill for over $100! I called and they blamed it on my insurance company for dragging their feet. (Not to mention, they did not even have the amount that I paid on the visit day which I had saved the reciept.) This is a lie as I checked with my insurance company and they paid out within 30 days of my appointment. AVOID THIS OFFICE AT ALL COSTS!!! It is not worth the headache of the drive over, appointment, and the disorganized billing system.

I went for simple cataract surgery. A mistaken tear during the operation has left me with blurry vision, feels like I have an eyelash in my eye almost all the time , bright flashes in my far peripheral, and a droopy lid sometimes. There has been no acknowledgement that I have a problem, even though I brought it up at each visit, so , of course, no solution or even an apology was offered.

I have been a patient of Dr. Morton at this practice for some years. He is thorough, explains what he is doing, what he is thinking and discusses possible future treatments in a clear and non-condescending way. I am entirely satisfied with his care of my vision and would recommend him highly. I have not had billing or insurance problems as have been reported by others. Hank S

Dr. Morton has performed two cataract surgeries on me, to my complete satisfaction. Two complaints about CVAs practice: they rip you off for $40 cash at the end of the exam (no other doctor does that), and their prescriptions do not include your PD (puppilary distance), making it difficult to order glasses online.

Dr. Mecilwaine is very good and professional. But you need to expect to wait. My simple eye exam took 2 hours. On the other hand, when I was called back for a 2nd test that did not require me to see the doctor, I was in and out in 15 minutes.

Dr. Easton is wonderful--knowledgeable, thorough and personable. I have been going to her for many years now and have always had a positive experience.
