Im guessing a big box store has more SKUs but, to my way of thinking, they dont have a better selection. The big box folks are going to stock products that lots of people want--in addition to those, Ashland Ace Hardware has a wider selection of more off-the-wall stuff. For example: Different types of string and rope, garden tools, plumbing parts, nuts and bolts, bird supplies, paint, furnace filters, and on and on. Ashland Power Equipment occupies the same space--they are dealers for commercial-quality brands such as Stihl and Cub Cadet and repair equipment (they also repair and maintain other equipment, sharpen chain saw blades, and so on). Typically Ill go to the big box store when I need something quick, and I know exactly what I need (I live about 15 miles from the Ashland Ace). But when I need something out-of-the-ordinary--or have some time to wander around, I definitely prefer Ashland Ace Hardware.

Super customer service. Came in looking for a product shown in stock on their website but wasnt found in store. The customer service clerk offered to order for me and in exactly the time frame quoted it came in and I promptly got a call. All the folks there are super friendly.

This our go to hardware. Needed cabinet hardware for old cabinets we were restoring. Carly was so helpful even opening a package to make sure it fit the slide bar. Love looking at the new products and Buds nursery each spring.
