I am from out of town, here in Houston for a week. A good friend and his family, also from out of town just happened to be at Fort Hood Texas this week so we decide to link up in Houston, grab some chow and a cigar. So far so good, right. We Google cigar shops and the reviews on this spot were great so we go. We were greeted by an older gentleman that promptly informed us within seconds of entering that the smoking lounge was for "members only" and we would not be allowed to sit and smoke. And, it didnt stop there... He told us we could sit "outside" and smoke (it was nearly 100 degrees at the time) or we could go down the street and sit outside at a restaurant that allowed smoking. We decided neither option was what we were looking for, but decided to give the humidor a look since we were there. My buddy decided to purchase a batch of cigars (nearly $100 dollars worth) and as he is cashing out I decided to ask the young guy at register if they would consider making an exception for a couple of retired military guys that had driven two hours each to get caught up over a good cigar? The young guy says to us "the room is for members only, but we do have $5 dollar day passes you can buy and enter the room." When we inform him that his co-worker (the older guy) told us we would have to sit outside the young guy apologizes and gives us the passes and allowed us to enter the lounge. Im not trying to call this anything than what it felt like to my buddy and I... One he is Hispanic and I am Black. Together we have nearly 48 years of military service as Infantry and Special Forces officers. We spent nearly 12 mins or more with the older White guy and he made it VERY clear we had no chance in Hell smoking in the shopss lounge. He had more than enough time to tell us about the day pass option, instead he elected to tell us we could smoke outside or wait an hour and go down the street when a restaurant that allowed smoking opened... Thats how it happened... Plain and simple and I leave up to all that read this review to form their own conclusions. RESPONSE TO FORBES - 8/9/16 Hello Forbes Thanks for your kind response. Unfortunately, we are no longer in the area, but I do appreciate your offer. Your shop, humidor, selections and smoke lounge is indeed top notch. And, I do understand the "members only" concept. Ive seen it in my travels before. As a suggestion maybe as a suggestion "programmed" isnt the right direction for the employees and "trained" as a replacement would be better. Telling us we couldnt smoke in the lounge w/o purchasing the day pass, but the employees should mention that up front as well. Again, thanks for your professionalism and be blessed. T. As someone relatively new to cigar smoking I was pleased with how helpful the staff is at Lone Star Tobacco. They took the time in teaching me about the cigars and helping me select several to try. I have since returned multiple times to purchase and experience new and delicious smokes. Lone Star Tobacco is my go to store and will continue to see repeat business from me. With the selection they have you will always have something new to try.

You must have a membership to smoke in this shop. Otherwise you can sit outside. This place is not for a casual smoker of cigars such as myself. The place was clean and had a nice selection. The staff not so friendly. (two older men) We did not feel welcomed and chose to leaver without making any purchase. Giving a 2 star because 1 star is reserved for utter failure.

My and his buddy visited the shop today and had a similar experience to Terrance. Bad customer service and this day pass thing is utterly ridiculous. Considering the prices are so elevated. The only shop that I know that would rather lose customers then let them smoke the cigar that they purchased in the shop. Will make sure to tell all our friends not to come to this shop.

Best tobacco shop in the city, they provide an excellent selection of cigars as well as pipes, lighters, cutters and anything else you might need in you quest for the perfect smoke, the owners are can answer almost any question you ask and they have a great lounge, which is open from 12-6pm during football season! Stop by and check it out you will not regret it.

Went in to purchase some cigars as gifts. Walked in knowing nothing...walked out feeling educated. Huge selection!! Staff was amazingly helpful!! Wonderful, kind, and patient!! They all seemed very genuinely glad to help...just a great atmosphere, great folks...have been back several times now!

I recently purchased my first couple of cigars here and it was a great experience. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Since then Ive been to a couple other stores in Houston and Lone Star Tobacco is the best, hands down! Great selection of cigar boxes & a nice looking members lounge too.

Entirely too much attitude from the staff when I walked in the door. Acting like youre doing me a favor by letting me in the door means Ill be perfectly happy to walk right back out. I can go to my country club if I want to make fun of snobs with my buddies.

Im 21 but I look like Im 18 and usually when I got to tobacco store I get treated like Im a fetus not this place though they are very respectful and understand that my money is just as green as the older guy with the beard

Very helpful staff. They helped me pick out some great pipe tobacco and recommended some excellent cigars. Great place if youre a cigar noob that doesnt want to feel stupid.
