Where do I start? These guys may be savvy bike mechanics and their prices seem reasonable but I’m afraid you will need a lot of stamina to find out. I own a fairly high end bicycle but I bought it used and I am not a “bike guy.” I rode it happily for about 5 years and decided to have a professional look it over, maybe tune it up, adjust the mechanisms and tell me what I might need to fix. I found Performance online and called them up. Seems they have a $49 package called a Safety Inspection where someone does EXACTLY what I wanted. $49? I’m in. So I take my bike in and meet Jason. Nice enough guy. I explained exactly what I wanted. Used bike, look it over; see if there is anything wrong with it; adjust stuff; make recommendations. I was clear that I was willing to spend money if warranted but that FIRST I wanted to know if the bike had anything wrong with it. I left with a completion promise date about a week out. Jason made an offhand comment that he would almost surely beat that date but he didn’t want to over promise. Ha! LATE on the day I was to pick the bike up, Jason called. All friendly with recommendations. He insisted the bike was in great shape and he suggested a new chain, some new brake pads, and some other stuff. He was clearly all over the bike and it sounded like he already had done and planned to do a lot of work. So…how much if we do all that? Oh, about $90 - $100. Geez! I was expecting hundreds. I was in for ½ that just to have it looked at and adjusted. Go for it! How long. Again, I was given a new date. This is great. The new date came and no Jason so I called him. He claims he’s worried that the shifters won’t clean up and that if not I’ll need new ones and he’s soaking them. It will be a few more days – he gives me a range between next Sunday and next Tuesday. But we are ON TRACK! What’s another week? On Tuesday LATE Jason calls. OMG. My bike has a crack in the head tube and he can’t do anything for me. OMG your bike is totaled. OMG I’m sorry. Maybe if you took off the water bottle and drove a new bike under it, you could be ok. Sorry man. How much? Oh, only $30 (they are clearly not trying to fleece anyone). I am FURIOUS. I’ve wasted almost a month without my bike. He has clearly not bothered to LOOK at it until he absolutely had to and THAT WAS MY GOING IN REQUEST!!! So I go in the next day to pick up my bike and experience their customer service they reserve for paying folks. Jason wasn’t there so no one involved knew my saga. I was just this guy who walked into a retail establishment. When I arrived, one of two folks there was helping a customer. So I stood in my place and interacted a bit with the two folks. While I wait my turn, the manager on duty (Leslie?) comes back, passes me like I’m a trashcan, and answers the phone. She then goes busily about resolving the issue on the phone which includes hanging up, looking through records, calling JASON! at home to get an answer and calling the person back. Not a nod in my direction even though I DROVE there vs. calling. Once she’s off the phone, she busies herself still failing to acknowledge me. Guy1 had walked to the front to ring up the original customer and when he returns, he has a fresh new customer and is helping him! At this point, I point out that I have been here a while and would like my bike. Guy1 says he’s sorry, he thought Leslie was helping me. I made a disparaging remark regarding the vanishing probability of that ever happening, and I get my bike. $30 and change. As a parting shot, Jason has scribbled on my ticket that he discarded my chain since he had intended to replace it. So – correction - $30 + plus I need a chain. The OMG crack is about .375” long and I will repair it. OMG I will take the risk. But I won’t return to Performance even if they are giving away pies.

Went in knowing very little about "performance" bikes. Havent really rode a bike since I was a kid. I have been riding a Walmart bike so I could ride with my 6 year old son that I purchased about a year ago. I went expected to pay about $500 for a bike, so I got a lower end performance bike. No use throwing a lot of money on something that I wont use. The associates there found me what I wanted right at my price range. Fuji 1.6 24-Speed Hybrid. (Just say that and youll sound like a pro :-) Which works great!! From a person who knows little to nothing about bikes, this bike is so smooth compared to the 10-speeds I rode as a kid, and the Wal-mart bike I had before. Worth every penny. They have a maintenance shop there, and the guy spent a good deal of time ensuring that the bike was properly tuned, that everything was working and even attached a parking stand for free. Cant beat that!!! The bike is well tuned, constructed well and rides like a charm. The associates are friendly, not pushy, and help you get what you want. I worked with two associates, and the manager; and the experience was the same with all of them. Eh...it took me a few days to come to a decision, but they worked at finding me a bike in my price range without pushing the higher end bikes. You know, if and when Im ready to put $2000+ on a bike, Ill let you know. Even so for me, $500 is far more than Ive ever spent on a bike, and when I was done. I felt I made a good purchase and had just an excellent experience. I looked around their website and had an idea of what I was looking for before I went in...that helped. They have a lot of bikes to choose from (drinking from a fire hydrant if you know what I mean). It they dont have exactly what you need..they can order it for you (as they did for me), but they do have a lot to choose from. Regarding the Fuji 1.6 24-Speed hybrid. The thumb gears are smooth...rides like a charm. I wanted a road bike with tires sturdy enough I could ride across a yard or a path...Not really a mountain bike, but not really a road bike if you know what I mean. A hybrid is a perfect choice until you get more experienced and know what you want.

My husband and I havent been on bicycles in many years. We decided we wanted to try riding bikes again, for exercise and fun, so we dropped in to the Performance Bicycle store on Hulen yesterday afternoon to see what they had to offer. We looked at a few bikes and then, walked up to a young lady at the front counter who soon introduced herself with a big smile and friendly handshake as Mariah. She asked us what we were looking for and then, immediately helped us find exactly what we needed. She could tell from what we told her, exactly which bikes to recommend. Then, she helped us determine the sizes and wheel types that would serve us best. Then, we went on test drives around the parking lot. We waited until the bikes were customized for us and then, loaded them into our car and went home. We have been on three bike rides around our neighborhood so far and we are having the times of our lives. We are both close to 60 years old now and yet, on our new bikes, we are feeling like kids again! Mariah is the best salesperson in the store, in our opinion, but the other guys are friendly and helpful, as well. But Mariah is the one who helped us make the decision and who convinced us of her credibility by sharing her extensive knowledge of biking. I would trust Mariahs recommendations completely. She was obviously not interested in profit, but rather, in our safety and in finding the best product for our needs. I recommend Mariah at Performance Bicycles highly!
