I found Gold Dust Tattoos on Google/Yelp after scouring through all the Dallas tattoo salons that had a rating of 4 stars or higher. As a tattoo virgin, I was following all the advice on the internet of researching and checking up on where I wanted to get my first tattoo done. I sent emails to about 5 of the "best shops" in the area; Gold Dust was the only one who actually responded. All the reviews are spot on; this place is clean, classy, and very fairly priced. Joe the "apprentice" set me up with Zachary Matthews, who is one of the go-tos for walk-ins and first timers. Right from the beginning, I was very impressed. He had me email my design ideas, being as detailed as possible, and came up with an original design that I was highly impressed with. Came back about 4 weeks later (they are BUSY, and many of the more senior artists are by appointment only), got stage one of my tattoo done in about an our and a half and am going back again in another 4 weeks to complete the design. Zach took special care to talk me through the entire process, from design and placement to aftercare. All of their equipment is stile and clean, and he was especially careful not to touch anything with his gloves after starting the process. He talked with me the entire time, and they always have a movie or cartoons going to keep you distracted. Id read in another review that their aftercare procedure is a good one, and I can vouch for this. Its been a week now and I have dont have any scabbing or redness, and Zach made sure I knew what to do before I left. Will post the final picture once the design is done, but right now Gold Dust Tattoo is my number one to recommend, and Zach is a great artist to work with. Update: got my tattoo filled in! Really love how everything turned out and the final product is gorgeous. High quality art by Zach Matthews. Pro tip - if you can take the time go on a weekday. my first appointment was on a Monday and it was very chill and quiet; second one was on a Saturday and it was very busy. Lots of walk-ins or people asking questions. Just goes to show how popular they are! Make an appointment ahead of time if you are doing anything complicated, or if you have a simple design be prepared to possibly wait a bit for an available artist.

Theres a reason Char McGaughy has been nominated best tattoo artist in Dallas several years in a row! Her award winning work is a product of impressive creativity, mixed with an unwavering focus and discipline. From the moment I met her to discuss my tattoo idea she radiated enthusiasm for her craft, yet presented herself with a quiet confidence that gave me comfort in trusting her with my idea and body. Over the course of the following year, she designed and tattooed my black & gray half-sleeve; happily working through my busy work/life schedule. The results, after half a dozen sessions and 30+ hours of tattooing, was way better than I ever couldve imagined! All of the artists in the shop display a refreshing professionalism, and show a genuine interest in each others work. Even the apprentice Joe frequently volunteered to go to the store and get me snacks/drinks during my sessions to keep me healthy and comfortable. On another note, Gold Dust is a very clean, welcoming, and relaxing shop. Its the least a client can ask for when we are about to endure pain and discomfort for hours on end, right? The shop has fine art on every wall, comfortable couches, TVs, a kick-ass fish tank, lots of swag to buy if you want to support the business, AND its located within walking distance of some really good restaurants. I also noticed during my sessions how diverse the clientele is at the shop. I saw a local TV personality stop by, old and young men and women from all walks of life, Doctors, Lawyers, and people from literally all over the country who flew to Dallas specifically to get work done by Char. It was an interesting experience being a fly on the wall at the shop for roughly a year while we finished my piece. At the end of the day, I would recommend this shop to anyone looking for a tattoo or piercing! Between all of the artists there, they would do a great job on any style or design you want to get.

This is my regular shop to get ink done. I trust that when I have an idea, that Char can take it, and make it something that I will proudly wear for the rest of my life. Char has a private room where she does her work, if you are looking for privacy when getting your tattoo done. She is super friendly and likes to chat to keep you relaxed when getting the work done. She likes to talk about her kids(dogs) and spoiled they are. lol In all seriousness, I searched for 3 years to find a regular artist who could put the works of art I wanted on my body. I believe I have found that in Char. I think of her as an artist, who just happens to own a tattoo gun. She comes at my pieces like she would if it was on canvas, which lets me know that it means something to her, and that the ink is going bright, and the lines will be straight, and I dont have to worry about it lasting. Now for the Shop, which is super convenient being right on Greenville Ave. When you walk in you are instantly greeted by people who want to be there, and enjoy what they do, which is honestly lost at a bunch of shops I have been to. It is a super chill place, the couch is pretty comfy, be careful to not pass out. lol The shop also has a lot of art hanging on the walls, which are from local artists, this is because Char is an accomplished artist herself, and believes in supporting the creativity and passion of other artists. The chairs as well as the restroom are super clean, and taken care of. They want you to know that they think about your health as much as they think about their own. They do piercings but I have not gotten one there so I have no opinion. There are multiple artists, that do either by appointment or walk-in depending on what you are looking for and scheduling. The prices are in a great range for the area as well. Like I said, I am a regular there and hope to continue to be for as long as I have canvas to support it.

This is the best place to get a tattoo in Dallas! I have gotten large work and small work done there by artist, Roque Mendez. He is amazing!!! He goes above and beyond any expectations that I have. He is a talented artist that creates unique pieces that fit his clients wants and needs while still adding a bit of himself to each piece. I dont go a day without someone asking me about my work and where Ive gotten it done. Its just that eye catching! Not only is Roque amazing but all the artists there are, they value original ideas and work and consider themselves true artists. If youre looking for someone who is going to not only give you a beautiful tattoo that is the best quality but also a place that truly values the arts and that continue to hone their craft as artists, this is the place to go. Hands DOWN! Also, I have always felt comfortable in the shop, which is rare for a tattoo establishment. In the past, most tattoo shops made me feel like an outsider with all the artists being arrogant and annoyed at customers, which never really made much sense to me. Gold Dust is friendly, clean, professional and just an all around good vibes kind of place. And when it comes to getting something so permanent on your body thats really how it should be. You should be comfortable with your artist and the establishment to feel safe and taken care of. I am so happy I have found Gold Dust and Roque Mendez. I will continue to spread the word about this amazing tattoo shop, its employees and the quality of work that continues to come out of there. Every new piece is better than the last. I would trust no other person or establishment with my skin.
