Came here for the second time today, had been here in January. Prices are reasonable, expect to pay 8-15 per record for the majority of what you pull out of the primary island of records (discount bins full of the usual crap...these guys dont miss a thing)...HOWEVER, on both visits, all I found from the majority of the primary-section-bands were undesirable albums that can be found anywhere, or rare copies of more desirable albums that are priced at what I would expect a hoarder to charge out of their personal collection. I obviously could never hold it against a business for being serious about making profit, but as a vinyl treasure hunter of sorts, this place is simply no fun for me; even so, my issue with this shop isnt really with the price and selection. My problem with this shop was the condescending response I got from the kid at the register after asking if he knew whether or not they had something in particular. Bad service from twentysomethings in record stores is not unheard of, but seriously, have you ever had an employee smugly tell you "...even if we did have any of Them, all of the good stuff is usually scooped up by me when we get it."? Explains A LOT when addressing the first part of my review. That was a first for me, and I was simply dumbfounded. After a couple visits, I find the fun little store to have a nice assortment of music, video, all sorts of classic gaming equipment, and various fun chotchky; however, the combination of the full retail pricing is unexcitng (I read the old review responses, go ahead and *professionally* call me cheap), and the fact that everything *good* will never make the (expensive) shelf is not only demoralizing but borderline offensive. My advice for shopping in myrtle? Theres only about 5000 secondhand shops, flea markets, and thrift stores to choose from. Props to Kilgore Trouts for being the only place to have a sign and a website, but I would rate it near the bottom of my list for good vinyl hunting in the area.

I was excited to find out there was a record store in Myrtle Beach to visit during my weekend vacation. One of my favorite past times is exploring different record stores that Ive never been to before. Unfortunately, this store quickly lowered my excitement. Everything you need to know about a record store is seen by simply asking how they categorize used albums by genre. At this place, it was fairly standard genre labeling for good reason, if you ask me. Albums were rarely placed into specific locations by subcategories, years, or even properly split up artist by artist. One of the reasons for this could very well be the fact that there was little music diversity at this store. It seems to be stocked by albums nobody wanted by artists most people not living in cave have heard of before. Then marketed to people that just want a quick reminder of their favorite childhood artists or for the youth to experience some of their parents favorite bands. The used rock selection is just a blend of unwanted yacht rock albums, classic rock compilations, and the occasional great rock album. Dont expect to find any esoteric rock albums at this place. Their jazz section was particularly alarming due to the lack of any John Coltrane albums. Just an assortment of your moms favorite smooth jazz albums, Dexter Gordon records, and vocal jazz compilation albums. The new reissue section wasnt convincing and even lacked the basic albums one would expect to find in such a section. This is not the place for dedicated music fans.

FRAUD ALERT ..... FRAUD ALERT .... These guys knowingly sell counterfeit goods. They bet on tourists buying their fakes and not realizing it until they get home, when it is not worth the time or effort to do anything about it. I went in the store while on vacation in Myrtle Beach. I purchased what they advertised in store as a mint condition copy of Contra Force for the NES. The seller went on and on about how he really did not want to sell it because it was so rare and such a fun game to play. He said just the day before he has spent 3 hours playing it. The price was not amazing at $100.00 but the game is rare and I had been looking for it, so I purchased it. When I got home and plugged the game it, it turned out to be a fake. It was not Contra Force but actually Skate or Die, a $3.00 game. Somebody, probably our good friends at Kilgour Trouts had put a Skate of Die board in a Contra Force case. It could also be a fake Contra force case, but it’s hard to say. If the sales guy had not told me how he had played the game for 3 hours just the day before and it was hard for him to sell, they may have got away with ignorance of their stock, but the fact he went on and on about the game shows he dam well knew it was a fake. I tried to contract Kilgour Trouts multiple times by email and phone to get my money back and they refused to respond. This is not buyer beware, these guys are committing fraud on tourists... avoid this store.

Once again, the bargain hunters are feeling like they are unappreciated. Im sorry we dont offer dirty, unorganized, nasty, unplayable records. Like I have said before, if you are a Goodwill or Salvation Army shopper, then you probably will like our discount bins. I have bought many records from customers that had Pappa Jazz prices on them and I am right in line with them. I really think the problem is that you find items in my store that you cannot find anywhere else and are just too cheap to purchase it. So, wait, look and ...Wait, you will find it cheap, but somewhere else. I will continue to charge the market value of perfectly clean records, that are resealed and can be opened and looked at. Some people are mean online and meek in public, so they are afraid to open and look. We never complain about it, we appreciate it. I prefer you to leave with clean hands and not dusty, dirty, smelly hands from handling used products. We try our best to offer a different record buying experience, one of quality and value, where that does not please everyone, it does please the actual collectors who love my store. Next time wagdaddy is in town, he should shop R&R, it is nasty, dirty, moldy and unorganized, just what wagdaddy is looking for, Have fun, we are.

I decided to check out the place while on vacation, Ive been to probably a hundred different record stores. Ive had some pretty awesome experiences and also some pretty crumby ones. But I always enjoy checking out a new shop and coming home with a new record or two. Found this place on the Internet while on vacation, decided to go check it out. I was pleased with my experience. Nice place. Very clean. All the records I opened and examined had no scratches or scuffs. Nice sized selection. Only possible complaint would be because of the prices. That is the only reason this shop does not get 5 stars in my opinion. They were definitely higher than shops in my area, but Ive seen worse. And I have no clue what competition they have or what the market is like here in Myrtle Beach. So with that being said: I suppose I shouldnt speak too much on something I dont know too much about. At the end of the day I came away with one record that my collection of that artist lacked, for a reasonable price. So all in all: if youre a real big fan of vinyl, its worth a shot. Stop by the joint.
