Poor experience - Went into store to purchase a treadmill (Proform Zt6) Price was going to be $599. Informed associate that I would like to purchase. The inventory said that had 3, but there were actually none in the store. The associate called the nearest store, and they did not have one either. Online option was to have it "white glove" delivered for a $120 fee. I asked if I could have it shipped to the store for pickup and was told no. So I waited two weeks..... I went online and saw that this particular trendmill was now onsale for $499 "Hot Deal". Not available online, call customer service for store availability. I called the number and the the representative and she checked the inventory of my local store, it said that they had 3. She called to confirm, and they again actually had none... She then called the nearest store, they had one floor demo model, and that if I wanted it, I need to be there before the store closed in 2 hours. What a joke.. What kind of inventory system are they using? I was planning to use $500 worth of gift cards to get this.. Now Ill have to use them on something else... Which will be my last purchases from this poorly run business.

I purchased a grill about a week ago. 2 days after my purchase, the grill was discounted $100. I understand normal processes and procedures, so when I realized I no longer had my receipt, I called the store to see if I could be refunded the difference without a receipt. The guy I spoke to said that wouldnt be a problem, so I went to the store to get my refund, I was told there was no way to do it without a receipt. That would be fine if thats what I had been told on the phone, but when I got there, the manager, Miles, gave the impression that he didnt care one way or another about customer service or professionalism. When I told him that Id take my business to Dicks (which is right down the street), he didnt care one bit. When I went to Dicks, I was greeted and helped with everything i needed, and i was in and out in no time. That being said, I am no longer a customer of that Academy Sports location.

Customer service at an all time low today. I needed to return an item that I purchased with cash this past Sunday but unfortunately we lost the receipt. To begin with they offered to refund 1/2 of what I paid(Sorry but Im not taking a $170 loss so you can turn around and profit another $170 off of it), and refused to look in the system to verify the purchase in order to get a full refund. I refuse to believe that in a day in age where everything is tracked by computers that you cant find my $750 purchase and verify how much I paid for an item. I can honestly say that due to this event I will never shop this store again and will be encouraging my family and friends to do the same.

We spent over $220.00 on shoes for the family tonight. I found some cute boots but my size was the display and the only pair in my size. The buttons were scratched up pretty good so I asked for a discount. The manager told me that was how they were supposed to look. She offered to take $1.00 off and she was not nice at all. I did not buy them. I went and looked online at the boots when we got home and the buttons were not all scratched up. Wow, was that worth loosing a sell?? Disapointed with the customer service of this store. We were in the shoe department 1 hour and no one working in that department offered to help assist me.

Went in to buy advertised product. They didnt even have a spot where they were.They said they price match almost anyone ... Not true. Tried to get them to match walmart but because online it said out of stock ONLINE they wouldnt match . went across street and Walmart had on shelf and was as advertised price but they dont sell them online in store only. Manager was very non sympathetic to my needs ... Last gun or ammo Ill be buying from academy. Dont care what the price is. Date of occurrence 4/14/17 night.

Definitely the best Outdoor department store in Columbia--maybe South Carolina for that matter. Prices are competitive and product selection is superb. Checkout has usually been slow, however, and some disorganization in the clearance areas (misplaces products, misleading prices) but that is to be expected. Otherwise I love the store, conveniently located right off of Harbison Blvd, Academy is the Outdoor Store to go to.

Employees are generally very nice and helpful. Although a few times Ive gone and wanted to check out a couple handguns, one of the employees behind the counter spent 20 minutes bullshitting with a customer who was an old friend of his, instead of helping anybody wanting to look at and possibly purchase a firearm or help with any questions. Another reason why I wont buy a gun from here.

Bought a 5 HP Coleman.. No MCO.. Store says Corporate has MCO... Corporate says Coleman has MCO, Coleman says store has MCO...Finally Brian the STORE GM contacted me and apologized and got me the MCO.. He also sent a gift card for my troubles.. Way to go Brian.. Thank you for making this right.. It has changed my opinion and I would shop here again.. They should give the GM a raise!!!

Large store with plenty of options from sports to hunting and everything in between. Ive made clothing purchases as well as fishing and hunting supplies from this store and always seem to find good prices and quality products. Customer support isnt nosey and will leave you to your browsing but has always been available and friendly to aid should the need arrive.

"Right Stuff. Low Price. Wrong day to ask for help from one of their employees." Customer service in the guns / hunting department was pretty bad today. The guy behind the counter answered my questions with one word answers and acted like I was annoying the heck out of him. It was so absurd that it was almost comical.

Academy is a very useful blend of the sort of outdoor home goods you might find at a Lowes or Home Depot, and the sort of fitness/sports good s you might find at a dedicated sports store. Prices are reasonably competitive, the store is very well-lit and organized, and everyones helpful.

I like the store but they should bring at least SOME womens outdoor clothing back. There isnt any. Women do like to hunt, fish, and do other stuff than workout. There are also women who have jobs that require outdoor clothing. Mens outdoor pants dont exactly fit women.

Lots of good sports equipment moderately priced. Good selection of clothes and shoes. Descent hunting and fishing department. Customer service is hit or miss, but thats most retail establishments. Overall a pretty nice sporting goods store.

This store has just opened recently, and so far Im loving it. They have awesome sales and clearances, and their prices are quite reasonable. The workers and manager, Brian, are extremely helpful and accommodating. Its a great place to shop.

Great variety of goods. Customer service could use a bump in sheer numbers, especially concerning checkout lines. Over all pretty pleased. Sale prices for individual items can net you a pretty good deal, otherwise prices are standard MSRP.
