Went for my first tattoo here and I could not have left any more happier and satisfied with my tattoo, the service, and the follow-up. The atmosphere is welcoming and calm (no loud metal music for example) along with a clean and open space. Bill (the artist) is awesome. He makes sure to let you know that he works for you and does what you want, but will also make suggestions that could enhance the design you are getting. He talks you through the process, explains the needles and how they work, lets you know why you might feel more pain in such and such an area over another. You pretty much forget youre getting a tattoo done with all the funny stories and conversation. This definitely attests to his level of skill and experience. Also, I have a ton of freckles/moles on my back and he was insistent on ensuring that none of them were tattooed over so that if any of them change size or color (warning signs of cancer) I, or my dermatologist, could see it. So he takes into account your health and future essentially - not just making the money. The location might throw you off and cause you to raise an eyebrow, but get over it! You dont want to go anywhere else in South County and I would tell people its worth the drive if you have to travel a bit.

Ive been to many places for piercings. Reds was a joke and Black Lotus was good but the availability of their piercer is sporadic. Despite the fact that Shades of Sunderland is located right next to a college campus, it is EXTREMELY clean and professional. I recently had my eyebrow pierced there, and last year I had my tongue pierced (and Ive encountered NO problems with it thus far). Bill was overly thorough in explaining every step he was going to take as far as the piercing procedure, and answered all of my questions. He is very experienced in this field and Ive never seen him do a bad job on anyones piercings or even tattoos. (Many of my friends have gone to him as well) Shades of Sunderland is a little on the pricey side, but its worth it for the quality of the piercing and the cleanliness of the facility. The only thing I disliked about the place was that the woman at the front desk was bitching and swearing at her kids in front of my friend and I.

I went here for my first tattoo (a large koi fish on my ribs) based on the amazing job Bill had done on my brothers tattoos, which included fixing a tattoo hed gotten done elsewhere that had come out badly. I described what I was going for and Bill worked with me on a design I was happy with. I was nervous, and though the process was painful, Bill kept me laughing and was very nice and supportive through the whole process. He even made helpful suggestions about the coloring, while emphasizing that I was the customer and he would be happy to do it any way I liked. My tattoo came out amazing and I get lots of compliments on it. I cant recommend Shades of Sunderland enough! I will definitely be coming back for my next tattoo!

I have been going to Bill for almost 3 years now. I did some research when I decided to get my first tattoo, and decided he was the best choice. Bill was able to discuss the design I wanted and make some suggestions to help with the longevity of the design. I didnt go to Bill for my second tattoo and that was a mistake. One he recently fixed for me and now it look AMAZING. Bill has done 6 tattoos for me and a piercing. Bill makes the experience fun with chats to take your mind off the needle. I would highly recommend him! He is clean, professional, friendly, and able to answer any questions about the tattoo or piercing process, and about aftercare.

I have had all of my tattoos worked on or done by Bill. He fixed my first three and did two more for me. You wont find a better place to get tattooed. The detail in the tattoos is amazing and the prices are very fair. It is also very clean. Bill has showed me all of his sterilization equipment and gone through the whole process with me and he could not be more thorough. Shades of sunderland is overall the best place you could go to get tattooed.I wont go anywhere else.

I absolutely loved these guys work!!! I just had my forward helix pierced there 3 times and he did a great job at making sure it was a clean and quick job. He did a great job! Not to mention their staff is fantastic. Definitely recommend!!!
