Ive been reading reviews on here about this pet store for a while now. its terrible how closed minded people are and how they dont look or pay attention to anything besides what they think is going on. first of all when it comes to the dogs, they arent in little tiny cubicles like other reviews say, they actually have a good amount of room in those "boxs" and most of the time they arent even in them, they are also ALOT safer then being on grates like other pet stores have puppies on, toes get stuck in them and so do the puppies pads on their paws, not to mention when they go to the bathroom on grates it doesnt usually go through the little metal squares so the puppies get to step and lay in it all day!! now if you look in the back on the walls of where the puppies are you will see a self watering water bottle! the bowl that you see in their kennel thats covered with shavings is actually for food! which you wont see in the bowls unless you get to the store at 10am, 3pm or 8pm because the puppies eat it all!! now when it comes to the fish tanks, I dont know if any of you have ever been in the ocean or a lake but they are not clean, it is not natural for a fish to live in a clean environment! they actually thrive in tanks that arent spotless. okay, on to the small animals.. yes there are quite a few rats and mice in one cage but under the USDA you are legally allowed to have up to 50 in one cage! so for them to put 20 in one cage is pretty generous if you ask me, all of those rats and mice are also just feeders for reptiles they were never meant to be looked at as a pet for someone. the small animals, reptiles, and dogs are cleaned and feed every single day. yes, the store itself can use a little dusting and maybe some new paint but the building has been around for over 60 years! D.C pet center has been in that same spot for over 20 years they were the first pet store in Dickson city, so obviously they are doing something right? Give the store a chance and actually take the time to talk to some of the employees, you wont be disappointed

I decided to stop by and visit D.C. Pet Center today just to browse. The last time I was there was back in early 2011, when I got my 10 week old bunny there. To say the least, I certainly have mixed feelings about this place. I was more than horrified when I was casually walking throughout the store, noticing how untidy the store has been since I last visited. Not to mention the poor customer service as well, I was just barely glanced at when I walked in. Not something to really complain about, but still a little unprofessional in my opinion. As for the animals themselves, the poor things. It breaks my heart to see the dogs in cubicles for one, and unkept ones at that. To agree with a previous reviewer, they do advertise a sticker that reads, "No pictures please, and yes we have water!" Thats a little shady and despicable. Especially considering that the bowls were filled with bedding instead of fresh water and it saddens me that the employees there didnt seem to take notice, or care for that matter. The animals looked scared and helpless, and craving attention. I wished I could bring them all home and save them from that excuse for a pet store. It really just astounds me because the last time I was there it was so nice and the employees were very helpful and the whole store seemed in perfect compliance. The animals seemed happy and healthy, and as I mentioned, I got my bunny from there and she is almost 3 now and is everything I couldve hoped for in a pet. So I cant say this store was a complete mishap for me, but I dont think I will be returning. I cant stand to see animals like that. I hope something drastic happens and they realize that the animals dont deserve this kind of environment.

Im quickly writing this review because of how strongly disgusted and saddened I am after stopping in to D.C. Pets. First, the place is dirty, old, and poorly maintained. It looks as if no one ever dared to ever pick up a broom or any cleaning supplies. The fish tanks had buildup and looked extremely disgusting, poor fish. The small pets and reptiles were worse. There is about 20 small mice in one tiny fish tank cage, and about 10 huge rats in one tiny fish tank cage. It was horrible. The guinea pigs and chinchillas were in wired cages with wired bottoms, with nothing in the cage but a food bowl. There was no shelters or anything in the cages. The piles of feces did not go unnoticed either! The puppies were heartbreaking-- they were in small tiny boxes with bedding that you would normally use in a hamster cage! It was all mangled in their fur and it was also soaked in piles in their water bowls. The puppies looked sickly, sad, and craving any positive attention. I know most facilities are somewhat sad, but this place was a nightmare. There is no way you could walk in there and not want to go run to the humane society or report it to animal cruelty- which is what I am going to do right now! DISGUSTED!

This is a mom and pop pet store that I have been using for as long as I can remember. It is not a fancy store by any means, but every pet I have had from there has been healthy and I stop in often to buy my supplies. The puppies are housed in are newer and sanitary "cubes" and they look healthy, if they are not sleeping. I mostly buy little critters here , but two friends have bought puppies there and loved them. No health problems. I love my 2 gunnea pigs from there. Very friendly and healthy. And they cost $16.99 instead of $36.99 like the big pet store down the road. --5/13 Update-- After a few years of taking some time off from pets because of kids, I decided to get a Cockatiel. I stopped by DC Pet and they no longer carry birds, but the store was spotless and smelled clean. Everything was organized and in its place. I was worried about going there after reading the bad reviews, but I could find nothing wrong with the place except there were lizards where they used to keep the birds. FYI, Pet Smart doesnt have Cockatiels either.

I wish there was an EXTREMELY poor option here. I was just at this pet store the other day and it smelled terrible as soon as you walked in. The tanks were filthy and looked like they hadnt been cleaned in weeks. The one turtle that they had there didnt even have a basking light or anything, let alone much rocks to climb on. Turtles need those kinds of things. Its important for their health. Bunnies, guinea pigs, ect were in the back of an Employee Only room while unopened boxes were piled up on the floor of the store. You had to walk around them. On the glass that the puppies were behind, it said No Pics and yes I have water! Well I didnt see any water and if you treated animals correctly then there would be no reason to have that sticker there. No wonder they dont want people to take pictures! The place was disgusting and they just dont want anyone to see it. I feel terrible for the animals there.
