Having just moved to the area, I was excited to support this local hardware store, unfortunately, my first experience with them has turned me off to them moving forward. I rented a Uhaul from them and the experience was not nearly as succesful as Jeffs below. Their location is less than 1/2 mile from my house, and I needed a 10 truck to help dispose of boxes and paper left over from the move. I called and booked the truck and was told the pick up times are 8am to 5pm only, which is not condusive to any work schedule. I made arrangements to have my sister-in-law pick up the keys for me, but in doing so had to move my rental up by a day. When I changed my reservation online, i was asked to accept or deny insurance for the truck, for which I declined. I always decline additional insurance as my credit cards and personal insurance cover rentals of all types. When my sister arrived to pick up the truck, she also mentioned declining the insurance but the rep insisted I had accepted it. Not once in my discussion with the rep on the initial reservation had she mentioned the insurance and I specifically declined the insurance on the reservation change. When my sister asked to check the online reservation, she was told the system was down. Not being able to get a hold of me, she signed the paperwork and accepted it. Later that night, before I even used the truck, I called the 800 number to get it changed and was told they could not do anything and I would have to take it up with the dealer. Well the next day, after using the truck, obviously the dealer denied my request. Its truly just a dissappointment with regards to the lack of customer service and feeling duped as rental insurance is the highest profit margin driver for any vehicle rental company. Its an unfortunate situation, and though only $14, its roughly a 70% upcharge for a rental I used for 40 minutes and literally 3.5 miles. I wouldnt expect that from a family owned store, expecially seeing the reviews below.

This family-owned business is the traditional hardware store that you remember from back in the day, but with just about anything that you might need (and theyll special order anything they dont have on-site and have it there in the next day or so). The staff is extremely helpful and are knowledgeable about just about everything, giving good advice about whatever project you might have questions about. And the prices are very competitive. Interesting features like working pinball machines, a real player piano, a completely authentic old-timey Downingtown barber shop (where you actually can get your hair cut at certain times) complete the atmosphere. Getting your hardware at Village Hardware rather than going all the way to Home Depot or Lowes not only saves your time and your gas, but also keeps a fantastic local business in the area. They sponsor local charity events for military and other folks in need, and they have convenient clothes-donation bins in the parking lot. What else could you ask for?

ignoranus UHaul surrogates. they think my paid UHaul reservation is optional. gave a massive hard time, wouldnt take my cards and get started on processing the order acted like i was at their mercy and nicked me $4 for "unfolded blankets", all six of them. News Flash to Garden Store: I came for my UHaul not your attitude or your fuddy duddy place. I came expecting UHaul and got crusty garden gnome. No one would ever act like this in a real UHaul I go all the time I do a lot of moving jobs these people are idiots I should have immediately called UHaul central over this refusal of my reservation. I left a bad review on the U-Haul post order survey by email the next day the co owner calls me to explain why Im wrong. Thanks Im sure thats the purpose of feedback. Guess what? This place sucks. Another example of late stage baby boomers who assume they own everything. I really should have called UHaul and shut them down. Some people need to be left with no choices but the right ones.

Great friendly staff, prices arent much higher than the chain stores (certainly worth the convenience of being closer!), plus a nice spread of supplies from gardening to home improvements to canning. Propane prices are great. In fact Id give 5 stars if they had longer hours, especially in the summer! To many times Ive been forced to the big box stores because I need something to finish a job (with plenty of daylight left) and I have to make a longer trip. :(

Enough good things cannot be said about my multiple experiences with Village Hardware. They have consistently proven to be the most helpful place in the area. Their prices are fair and frequently even cheaper than going to the big box stores. When you consider the time and frustration savings you cant make a better decision.

ok store if you are in a quick pinch, otherwise very expensive for most items. i like supporting local bussinesses but same products at home depot and lowes and way cheaper and selection is limited maxwells in downingtown is a better hardware store

Very friendly, knowledgeable staff, and prices are very competitive. Excellent pricing on propane, and they are a U-haul Rental Location right in town! Later hours in the summer months would be ideal! Tool/equipment rental would be helpful.

Best U-Haul location in the area, hands down. Family owned and operated business. Excellent customer service that goes out of their way to accommodate you. Friendly, professional, and will have equipment as promised. Would highly recommend.
