Quality? Not even close. I bought an air compressor from harbor freight for 160.00. It worked one time. I tried returning it less then 48 hours later, and they told me they could not take it because I had already put oil in it?! I had to ship it back, but would not be given a refund, only an exchange. OK. so the new one arrives with a dent, and both gauges had the glass broken. Shipped it back, and they shipped me a new one. Would not turn on. The amount of time that I had to spend on the phone to get my money back (after they kept accusing me of not knowing how to plug it into the wall) was not even worth the effort. When I called the store to talk to a manager (which everyone seems to be), they told me that I should have been able to return it to the store! The "manager" then told me that they return and exchange no less then 10 every day! WHAT!? How many of these actually work? Steer clear!

Stock is pretty good, most items a fair deal, however, I dread going there or calling, its often a long wait to checkout, or to find out if an item is in stock. It is not the fault of the employees, they appear to be doing their jobs. I suggested that they might need some more help, maybe someone to answer phones, and was told that the store was actually overstaffed. I assume this means by H.F. standards. If customers avoid the place to avoid wasting time, it is NOT overstaffed. I sometimes order from northern, msc, or elsewhere to avoid the time spent shopping.

Its a mix of good prices and low quality. For basic tools (non-power) its a good deal. I havent broken a wrench or socket yet. I wish they sold single sockets. I buy a lot of oddball manual tool stuff here. A cheap crescent wrench worked better than the Husky brand from HD for 1/3 the price (husky kept sliding open). About half my manual tools are from here, and they work fine. A few pneumatic and power tools are semi-crap. The Vise is so-so, poorly constructed, but works. Great place for heavy 9 and 12 mil nitrile gloves.

If you, however, are looking for good, inexpensive tools that will get the job done, then Harbor Freight Tools is a great place to visit for their price and selection. Some of their tools are good but beware buying boxes from harbor freight as they dont have replacement drawer slides and are no help if your just out of the warranty time.
