Prices are too high - Queens is much more competitive and has a much larger product line. I asked them to get ginger for me - Queens sells 1# for $3.50 and its excellent. Garden Gate tried to sell me 9.2 oz for $4.99, which she insisted was a sale price. Not a good buy! One of the products I purchased on February 02, 2010, was bad - deteriorated, unusable. When I returned it, she insisted I didnt buy in there, that it was two years old, anclearly implied I was lying! I did, in fact, buy it upon her recommendation!!! Ill never do business with someone like this. There are stores at the Farmers Market and Sign of the Bear, which are much easier to use. Garden Gate is NOT HANDICAPPED accessible and the store is overly crowded, not allowing for walkers or wheelchairs, so its basically closed to handicapped people. Youd think the clerk could be a little nicer to customers, since I spend $500 or so monthly in health food stores! Talk about cutting off your nose....!!!!!

I went to this store with my husband and I thought the service was wonderful! As soon as we walked in there Ann (or Anne) was so polite and well informed of all their products. She gave us a little tour of the store and explained the types of products that they carry. I had a lot of questions, and she was able to answer them for us. I had bought some shampoo from there from garden gate, and I love it! I highly recommended this store. I was really surprised how much they carry. Food (wide selection), juices, teas, laundry soap, hair care, fluoride-free tooth paste, henna hair color, cleaning supplies, you name it they have it! I did not see any raw organic milk there but I was told that they can order it. Friendly people, wide selection, well informed employees.

Although I would have given this store a five star rating because I like what she sells. I cant because of my first impression of the level of dishonesty I was met with by one of the clerks. When I first started coming to this store I asked about a specific product the store would likely have. The clerk said "We dont have it in stock but you can order it and well have it shipped to us within 3-5 days." I decided not to order that day but attempted another. I then was told "No, sorry, we do not ship for that product. I didnt show any signs knowing of her bold face lying. But I just have to express how mistreated I felt when this happened. I hope this behavior of theirs is corrected at some point. By now they should know that their customers are paying attention.

The store itself is very small but despite that there is still a decent selection. They even have some organic produce which sign of the bear does not! The woman working there was very friendly and funny! My only complaints would be to check the dates because I purchased a pack of meatless pepperoni which she told me was sitting in the freezer "for a while" so she gave me half off. When I got home I realized it expired in 06! It looks ok but Im still not gonna eat it. Also the organic apples I purchased have an odd taste to them, possibly from being refrigerated for too long.

My husband and I have always been met by friendly folk. Always engage in interesting conversation, especially the gentleman who works there. Im not sure if hes the owner but both he and the lady that are usually there one or the other have always been helpful and very informative. I dont go anywhere else for my needs. Its a quaint little shop and they always have what I need.

They have a decent selection and slightly higher prices than Wegmans (which I expect from a local health food store). I was fairly disappointed with the friendliness of the employees. They arent to the at the point of being rude, but I have certainly been to many other health food stores with much nicer employees.
