I was really impressed with Spectacle! I chose it because it was conveniently located, but I ended up being very pleased with the service as well. I went in for an eye exam and to get some prescription sunglasses. My appointment started right on time, and the techs were very helpful in explaining how the tests worked and instructing me during the testing. I have only ever visited a very “old school” optometrist in the past, so I was new to a lot of the technology they have. I was also impressed that Dr. Ngo took the time to review the images and results from the testing during my appointment. I’ve never seen photos of the inside of my eyes! She tweaked my prescription and then Jessica helped me select frames and customize my sunglasses. She went over my insurance coverage and helped me find what I needed while still keeping it within my budget. The glasses I saw ranged from about $100-500, so they have a pretty wide variety for such a small space. Warby Parker is just around the corner, but I feel more confident getting customized glasses right there after my exam, and if you pick one of the cheaper frames it’ll cost about the same anyway! My only complaint would be that the online new patient forms could use some finessing – the interface seemed a bit clunky and outdated. But the fact that it’s online at all is a huge improvement from many offices. They are very forthcoming with information and give you specific contact details in case you have questions about your prescription, insurance, etc. They are also very easy to reach via email, which is a huge benefit for those of us who work full time and prefer not making personal calls in an open office. Overall I felt I was given a thorough exam complemented by quality customer service. Would highly recommend.

I arrived at Spectacle for a routine exam to determine if I needed a prescription update. I was initially helped by Gustavo, who was affable and easy to talk to, but always professional. He ran the preliminary tests on my eyes and was able to discuss the function of each machine I was being tested on in-depth. Afterward I met with Dr. Schmitt, who completed the rest of my eye exam. Not only was he also quite knowledgeable and friendly, but in my brief conversations with him before and after the tests, it became apparent that he also deeply cares about eye healthcare. I felt incredibly comfortable entrusting my vision to a professional who is both an expert and a good human being. On my way out, Gustavo asked if I wanted any new frames with the lenses I ordered. Initially, I was wary of some of the prices, but Gustavo directed me to a rack of frames that were both affordable and stylish. My experience at Spectacle was overwhelmingly positive, and I would recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a pleasant glasses shopping venture or an eye care specialist with a mix of technical know-how and heart.

I now know first-hand why Spectacle has a very well deserved five-star rating! I was overdue to renew my prescription, so I scheduled an eye exam like Ive done in the past, like Ive done, every two or so years, for decades! This was no ordinary eye exam, though. Their state-of-the-art equipment meant there was no need to use any of those stinging drops to dilute my eyes, or even those (always unexpected no matter how ready you think you are) air puffs! Dr. Schmitt took his time to thoroughly explain the very detailed images of my eyes and what everything meant. Ive never had a more comfortable and thorough exam in my thirty-plus years wearing glasses. And I would be doing them a disservice if I dont mention the amazing customer service throughout, from walking in and chatting with Jessica, to the pre-tests performed by Gustavo, through the entire exam with Dr. Schmitt. I wont be going anywhere else for my eyes for as long as I live here in Portland. Do yourself a favor and go see Dr. Schmitt, Jessica, Gustavo, and the gang at Spectacle!

I had an amazing experience with Spectacle both during my eye appointment with Dr. Anderson and working with Jessica to look at frames. I moved to Portland from the east coast 3 months ago and am in the process of finding all new doctors - Dr. Anderson made the transition so much easier with his kind + calm nature. He explained everything throughout the appointment and even had some fancy tool that eliminated the need for blowing air into my eyes (yes!) I will definitely be back to see him when its time to update my prescription. The office and showroom are a great space - very bright, clean, modern and comfortable. Jessica was awesome to work with and so helpful in working out costs and insurance information. She was also super knowledgable/honest about frames that werent the best look for my face. I really appreciated that transparency! Im so glad I found Spectacle and look forward to many more visits in the future. Would recommend to anyone looking for high-end frames, sunglasses, and/or an eye appointment!

This was by far one of the best medical experiences I have had to date. I grew up in Jamaica where I feel spoilt with my doctor visits and interaction. Most US doctors, time is of the essence and examinations are short and some sweet. Jamaican doctors have a certain level of patience that eases a lot of pressure and concerns. Fortunately, this was how I felt with my experience at Spectacle with Dr. Schmitt and his lovely staff of Veronica, Elora, Jessica, Sylvia and Hector. His staff members were extremely polite and eager to help. The selection of eye wear was extremely harmless and I did not feel like he hired Used/New Car Salespersons. Hence, this solidified my satisfaction of the visit. Most notably, Dr. Schmitt is a very down to earth and polite person who has a passion for his specialty - which also translates into him helping those in need. I hope he has a twin brother who is a Family Physician :) Thank you Team Spectacle aka Team Spectacular.

Spectacle is the best ever. Dr. Schmitt and his staff are so concise and are great at helping you understand any questions you may have. I had been going to another eye specialist and never saw any results in over a year. As soon as I left Spectacle I felt a huge relief - I finally feel like I understand my eyes and all of my questions were answered by doctor Schmitt with both photos and videos. I never knew that I would need glasses, but I am so excited to receive them now that I know why I need them. In addition to the great care they give you during your appointment, picking out glasses is so much fun. They have a wonderfully curated selection of glasses, it is a relaxed environment and stress-free. The interiors and decorating also makes you feel like you are being taken care of. It is clean and just feels really nice :) I definitely recommend going to Spectacle!

I went to Spectacle on a busy Saturday afternoon to get an eye exam. At the front, Christy greeted me and gave me a form to fill out. It only took a few minutes, and then the tech, Gustavo, took me to a separate room to look at my eyes. He used several machines and was able to knowledgeably answer my questions about what he was looking for. Then Dr. Ngo went over the results with me and helped fit me for contact lenses and for glasses. I have a challenging prescription and I was impressed that she was able to explain so clearly each result. Then Gustavo helped me pick out frames while figuring out what my insurance would cover. Everyone I interacted with was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the tech and the doctor both went the extra mile to ensure I could have affordable contacts and glasses.
