I emailed Lisa in December and we scheduled a consultation in mid January. At the consultation, not only was she late, but she was quick to hear about my idea and didnt ask any clarifying questions. I asked her for the sketch, and she said that I could have the sketch the day of my tattoo. My tattoo was scheduled for mid March. The day of my tattoo comes around, and she canceled on me 2 hours before via email. I asked to see the sketch, and she didnt respond. All of the rescheduling was on my end, we rescheduled for late March. When I went in for try #2 , she was 20 minutes late. She came down and showed me the sketch, which is not what I asked for at all. I had asked for a robin, ranunculus flowers, and gingko tree leaves. The bird was not a robin, and when I pointed that out, she said it was a "baby robin". Not only did I not ask for a baby robin, but it wasnt a robin as it had an upturned tail, which robins do not have, even the babies. She was very rude and defensive, but still agreed to re-sketch. She disappeared for an hour upstairs (never did she draw anything in front of me, which is another fishy aspect of the whole thing). While the next sketch was much better, she told me she was going to wait on the tattooing, "because we were out of time" (we had at least 3 hours left of the appointment). So, we rescheduled for mid April. Mid April comes around, and the day before my tattoo, she emails me to tell me she doesnt want to do my tattoo anymore because she wasnt excited about it. So after 5 months, 1 consultation, 3 tattoo appointments and tons of disappointment later, nothing.

Icon Tattoo has been my go-to shop for 3 years now, and it is hands-down the best shop in Portland, full of the most wonderful, down-to-earth people. The atmosphere is very welcoming, open, and ego-free, which isnt always the case at tattoo shops. Plus, its female-owned! :D I have gotten the majority of my work done by Gin and every piece turns out even better than I could have imagined. Shes very attentive to your ideas, and her designs nail it every time. The final tattoo always has high-quality line work, perfect shading and thoughtful detail. Ive also worked with Alena and Mckenna, who were also great human beings and did equally beautiful work - you really cant go wrong with any of the artists at this shop. I just moved away from Portland and honestly, Im probably going to miss Icon more than anything else. Do yourself a favor and go get tattooed by some badass women!

I love Icon!! Not only is it comfortable, gorgeously decorated and full of super talented professional artists but its woman-owned! Its such a far cry from the aggro, macho traditional shop look and scene, but Icon isnt fake or overfancified. Just well-trained, creative artists who know their craft and appreciate the effect that the space has on the tattoo experience. I spot their work on people all the time and especially like their botanical themed pieces. Ive been getting tattooed for years and have work from all over the world. Icon houses 2 of my favorite tattooists around, Betty Marie and Clio Sady, I am working on an epic upper body piece (full chest, torso and left arm) with Betty and cant wait for my next session! Theres nowhere else Id go in Portland, you can even get ice cream!

Very disappointed with the customer service, trying to schedule appts. I sent an email on March 9th, as they require..March 20 I still had not heard back, when their "auto response" says they will reply within 7 days. I emailed again...when I finally got a reply they did not address the original email, which had pictures and our preferred artists. We were open to any artist but that part of the email was looked past. The response, literally, said try to walk in... I, even, went to the place, to schedule appts, at the beginning of March, but was told it all has to be done via email. Such a disappointment and very frustrating situation, when this was the place my daughter wanted to go, for her 1st tattoo and 18th Bday.

This shop is inviting and lovely, it feels like getting tattooed inside a boutique or fancy indie girls bedroom with dreamy music playing, and warm brick and pink walls. All of the artists are friendly, fun, and professional, they seem to genuinely like and respect one another which creates a positive atmosphere all around. I have been tattooed by Melanie and Lisa, and both are extremely talented. They listened to what I wanted but also helped guide me toward design and color choices that made my tattoos extra beautiful. Both are really patient and also great to talk to and spend time with. I would go back to Icon again and again, I hope I can get tattooed by Alena sometime too! I would recommend this shop to anyone!

Ive wanted a specific first tattoo for a couple years and have been holding off as normal tattoo studios are intimidating. Icon is the opposite. The studio is beautiful and full of great vibes. I appreciated all the charm and warm fuzzy feelings, and immediately fell in love. This is where I had to be tattooed. Betty worked with my time constraint and produced a sketch within a couple days. She took what I tried to relay on paper, and made it exactly what I intended, if not even more stunning. She had a gentle touch and made getting my first tattoo a memorable event that I will reflect upon every time I see my soaring falcons.

Icon tattoo is by far the best tattoo studio I have ever had the pleasure of spending time in. I have had multiple tattoos done, from the hole in the wall in New York, to the dive in Seattle, and the experience and art cannot compare to Icon. The studio is clean, friendly, and offers not only ink work, but jewelry, and home decor as well. Melanie, the owner of Icon, has employed amazing staff with incredible artistic abilities. Melanie herself has done three of my tattoos, and she has a great eye and a delicate hand. I love her work and think she has created a new boutique like feel for tattooing.

I scheduled my consultation about a month in advance with an artist. I go to the studio the day of my consultation and the artist I had it scheduled with had left town. I didnt get any notices that she was leaving and it was a complete waste of my time. The lady at the counter was being very nice and was trying to reschedule me but giving the fact that Im only in town for a few more weeks, there arent any openings. This happened to another woman that was in the studio the same time as me but she was scheduled with a different artist. Very unprofessional. Never going back.

Loved my experience at Icon getting my first tattoo! Betty is a great artist. I met a week before to show her what design I was thinking of. Upon arrival to my appointment we made a few sizing adjustments and got to work! I really like that she listened to what I wanted without judgement. The tattooing was really quick considering the artwork that was done. I enjoyed the scene and all the employees were very friendly. I highly recommend Icon! Im from out of town and came back for more shading, on the house. Again had another great experience.
