This independent book shop has been a beloved Raleigh "fixture" for decades. When the owner announced the shop was for sale in the last year, you could hear the communitys collective gasp. No one wanted to imagine a world without Quail Ridge and fortunately we dont have to. New ownership maintains the same quality selection of books across all genres (Im partial to the cook book section) and each week brings new author events and book club meetings. If you join their Readers Club you get discounts on best sellers and other store items/gifts plus extra discounts at the twice-yearly Readers Club sales. Dont worry if you cant find a specific book on the store shelves - just ask a store staffer for help. Theyre happy to special order books (even rare and out of print items). You can order online too to pick up in the store later (I find that service convenient because I dont have to pay for shipping nor dispose of pesky shipping material later).

Upon hearing about the selection of books from some reviewers, I brought my parents who were visiting from Singapore, only to have them accused by a female store staff of mis-positioning their books (in fact it was someone else before us who had misplaced the books), and by another male staff at checkout who couldnt wait to shoo them off after they have paid for 5 books. I feel certain after these 2 incidents that they serve a certain clientele of Caucasian appearance only. In fact, they seemed to have paid negative attention to people of non-Caucasian appearance. It was a sad day for us as my parents were seriously looking to buy books for their grandchild, only to be treated so shabbily.

I recently moved to this neighborhood and one of the benefits and charms of living here is being so close to Quail Ridge books. It is now my go-to solution for birthday and holiday gifts. The staff are very helpful and they have a wide selection. I can say with certainty that Quail Ridge has been a positive influence in my eight-year-olds improved reading skills, with their helpful selections and ability to browse for books of his interest and reading level. In addition to all this, I have attended and enjoyed several author talks there. Long live independent book stores!

A friend raved about the childrens section in the new location, so I had to have my first visit here recently with my infant son. The interior design of the space is beautiful! It makes me want to stay all day reading a good book in one of the sitting areas. The selection of childrens books is unique and fun, you can tell that a lot of thought has been put into the available selection. I know Ill enjoy visiting here often to build my sons home library. The staff is also very friendly!

Helpful, talkative, long-term staff elevate the well-curated (if not expansive) selection at Quail Ridge Books. Despite being nestled in a fairly standard shopping center, this is, without a doubt, the go-to bookstore of the area. Dont visit Quail Ridge Books looking to find something specific - visit looking to discover something. Quail Ridge also hosts frequent events that are well worth attending and offers a (somewhat limited) music selection.

This store is such a gem. The staff is fantastic, the selection is amazing, and the talent they book is a delight. This is what a bookstore should be, its not an extension of the marketing arm of the big publishers. I bought books that were, gasp, published over 3 years ago and did not make their way to a best seller list. Thank you to the folks at Quail Ridge for all you do. I have no reason to go to a chain store ever again.

Ive been a fan of Quail Ridge Books since way back when they were actually on Quail Ridge Road. While other book stores struggle to maintain a presence in the area, Quail Ridge has grown into their newest and best location on Lassiter Mill Road by giving their customers much more than just books, but things such as readings and lectures by local authors and artist. Barnes and Nobles wont give you such local flavor.

We love Quail Ridge Books and were very sad when it moved from the Ridgewood Shopping Center to North Hills because of the distance. We visited today for the first time since their move. We love the new concept, though it does feel a little "big boxish" and it looks like they really cut back on some of their offerings. Ill be back, but probably only if Im in the area.

I used their website to purchase a book with a gift card. Some unforeseen issue occurred resulting in my card being charged without completing the transaction. Upon contacting the store, I received immediate, enthusiastic help. The problem was resolved in a timely manner with excellent customer service.

I use this book store to place large orders for the library that I oversee at work. They have been fantastic. They make my job so much easier. They do all the leg work, give our agency a great deal and the staff are wonderful, knowledgeable and always eager to help. The store is absolutely amazing.

Quite possibly the best book shop on the entire eastern seaboard. Quail Ridge is a true local treasure, beloved by locals and authors alike. Please support them. It is everything a booksellers should be: incredibly knowledgable staff, a wonderful, extensive collection, and an enjoyable ambience.

I love the way this independent book store fosters a sense of community and brings out authors to Raleigh. Its too bad that the place looks worn and outdated. I have to admit, I like being able to buy a coffee and snacks at the chain bookstores. However, I will support this store too.

While its a minor Raleigh fixture, Quail Ridge has a really small selection. Their music section is (frankly) pathetic. Prices arent any lower than b&n. Community events and author events are fun though and justify its existence--I just wouldnt go there for my regular book shopping.

This is a really cool indie book store. It has two floors and ample genres, including a large childrens section. They have some cutsey lit-related merch, too, like mugs and t-shirts and puzzles. The stacks can be a little tough to navigate if you arent familiar with the layout.

I love to get lost in the stacks at Quail Ridge. Its more than just a book store. Their commitment to local writers and author events makes Quail Ridge a community builder. I wish I was there right now. Thank you, Quail Ridge, and I hope to see you again soon.

A real bookstore and much more. It has been local owned since for over 30 years.Hear from local to international authors speaking. Book clubs meet here along with live music. A hole section on childrens books as well. Also they have a robust website too.

My 4-year-old absolutely loved the childrens section and made himself quite at home. The place kept most of the charm from its previous incarnation. They still get plenty of popular authors at book signings. We will be visiting again for sure.

Lovely store, excellent service. Cindy helped me find the perfect gift and was very helpful without being pushy. -1 star for on-hand stock; the North Hills location is small and twice theyve not had in stock the book for which I was looking.

Dog friendly to well-mannered pooches who are housetrained. High-level distractions because of small spaces. This is a graduation location when your pup is ready. Absolutely lovely store with friendly staff.
