Hard to know what to think about this place, which from the street looks like a porn hut. At least a quarter of the inventory is so olfactorily moldering that it cannot be sold at any price or given away. In the age of online books, its hard to know what place a used bookstore has anymore. The owner never seems glad to see anyone, and is difficult to approach. While the atmosphere is quiet, theres also no warm organismal vitality that bookish settings usually engender. Business seems glacial. I like bookstores where the inventory is enriched in things I want so that I have to choose. Here, when I peruse, I rarely find anything that interests me, and I thus worry that what predominates here are titles no one actually wants. Places to sit other than the dirty floor would be welcome, but there arent any.

This place is definitely hard to make out, and their name doesnt help them much. However, they stock a very good variety of books and their layout is clear and logical. They also have a quite a supply of graphic novels, if thats your interest. Though Ive not interacted with the staff much, Ive never been put off by an employee. Inside it is brightly lit although unadorned, even if it might look rather suspicious from the exterior. If you know what youre looking for, it should be easy to find, but Ive also spent quite a bit of time just browsing in subject fields that interest me. Theyd get a fourth star if they either explained their appearance or sought to improve it. Otherwise a very reasonable price range and a wide selection.

Knowledgeable staff, especially in regards to Golden Age comics and especially especially Harvey and Golden Key. Theyve been in the business for years, and their expertise shows. Great selection of graphic novels, past & current comics, and some fun odds and ends. If you look high and sometimes low, you can usually find a treasure. Like most used bookstores these days, they are picky about what theyll take for trade in, but thats what youll find just about anyplace else. Its no longer a sellers market. Oh, and they also usually have some fairly recent things on super sale. Ive gotten some reprints and graphic novels for great prices!

I love going on their more-than-occasional sale days (usually on every major holiday except Christmas) where I walk away with CDs and books. A great selection of classic poetry and large collection of literary essays, belles lettres, and humanities. Its a mainstay of the Triangle used bookstore market (how many others have been around for 20+ years?) and always worth a visit.

Excellent place to browse and buy used books, CDs and comics. Erudite owner and helpful staff. My interests are more literary than mass market, and bdfar is a good place to scratch those itches. I have spent hours here and enjoyed them. The bdfar webpage book search function is a great way to suss out titles that interest you.

Love this place! Its a cute little niche store and I could spend hours there exploring all the different sections. I only took off a star because it isnt wheelchair accessible and doesnt have accessible parking so I had to take the journey on foot (which was kinda painful tbh)

Really cool little place. Great assortment of used books and vtnil. But the reason I keep coming is their comic book section. The best Indy section in Durham. Awesome discount graphic novels and much more. The staff are super friendly and helpful. A true hidden gem.

Stopped by on a Monday afternoon to find a very pleasant owner and his little dog who was quite the curious little fella. This is a great independent bookstore / comic book store; Ill stop back in again soon.

One of my favorite Triangle shops. I dont think Ive ever walked out without a purchase. Terrific selections of books, LPs, CDs and comics, and the owners are both knowledgeable and engaging.

Pretty good selection of used books and music. Indifferent to rude service, though. Dont bother bringing used items to sell, theyll just send you away.

Great book selection but its best for a quiet book lover, not a family of kids.
