I ventured into Origami Ink last Saturday to buy a pen for a young friend who is heading off to graduate school. The young man was very nice and helpful, and made lots of good suggestions, and I was just about to buy a rather more expensive pen than I had planned when another customer walked in and interrupted politely. The sales clerk began to discuss the new customer’s needs while still trying to take care of mine. I had said I was ready to purchase, but the clerk asked if I minded if he take the money from the new customer. I said I did mind, that I was ready to check out and that I would appreciate it if he finished with me first. I was paying cash and not expecting to get a gift wrap. My chosen pen and its box were on the counter in front of the cash register. And yet, he continued to try to organize both sales, taknig time to get the other customers merchandise, turning to the new customer to ask if he would need change and giving him a total. I said, "Excuse me, what are you doing? I thought you would finish with my sale first." “I can do both at the same time,” he replied. “No,” I said, “you can’t. I can a present somewhere else.” I left and went to New Morning Gallery and bought one of beautiful Oberon leather journals – which my friend loved! – and at NMG they treated me with the ‘first come, first serve” style of customer service that I expect. I won’t be returning to Origami Ink.

Origami Ink is a unique shop that carries high quality pens, inks, and papers, including stationery for a personal touch. The owners are very knowledgeable about papers, inks, and pens. Not only do they offer a unique selection, but give the opportunity to try the pens in the store before purchase. There is no rush or hurry in your experience. It is secret favorite haunt by locals, and is reminiscence of a small unique shop in Paris. Be sure to look carefully as some of the objects are handcrafted by artisans, and range from small sculptures, to jewelry, to beautiful frames and cards. The upstairs is small, but full of treasures including a not to be missed selection of Japanese papers. Once you experience the quality of the pens, inks, and papers, well it will be hard to return to the ordinary!

This is a wonderful shop!!! I have always had an interest in pens and journals and have purchased more than my wife thinks I should! I found several items including a brand of ink which I thought was no longer being produced. The owner was very helpful and polite and certainly did his best to help everyone in the shop. I certainly did not feel neglected! In fact, I was pleasantly surprised that so many people were frequenting the store while I was there and that people would be interested in writing and writing instruments. I highly recommend this store and the owner.. The selection is wonderful and the prices can fit all individuals needs.

Its the kind of place I imagine scribes from fairy-tales buy their magic ink and delightful objects. I almost walked right past it, then something caught my eye in their window... exquisite pens and paper, we kept walking until my beau said "you really want to go in there dont you!" and I said "yes, please!" so we looked around. I was a little afraid to touch anything because everything seems very precious. We got to chat with the owner as he showed me how to use a piston pen I would buy and he was very friendly and personable. Even the best stationer in Portland just cant compare.

Rhodia, local made leather bound books, inks by Noodler, J Herbin (even the rare sparkly edition), beautiful Italian leather desk goods, what else could you want from a stationary shop? How about a sales associate who looks like he was groomed in 1850 and is knowledgeable about the merch, and who clearly notices the order of waiting customers, giving each one plenty of time in turn. Add in a bit of vaudeville fare to entertain whomever you may have brought along, & this place is one of my new favorites in Asheville.

Besides the lovely pens and interesting, kooky clocks, the owner is very nice and polite as well. The store has a very nice vibe to it, and any question you have will be answered. Whether youre buying for a friend or yourself, I recommend you consider Origami ink.
