I am a physician in my (almost) mid-50s who wants to get back into the type of physical condition I enjoyed when I went into practice, almost 20 years ago. I tried treadmills and stationary bicycles, but I just don’t enjoy burning calories and staying in one place. Running is not my thing, either. I then remembered from my childhood how much I enjoyed bicycling, and when I grew up, my bicycle was my main mode of transportation locally. The only question is what bicycle to buy and where to buy it. I called a friend of mine who is an avid cyclist for advice. He gave me a fair amount of information as to equipment, and he said to buy from Campus Bicycle in Stony Brook. A few days later, I went into Campus Bicycle. I met with Neil, the owner, who was friendly, patient and extremely knowledgeable. He asked some excellent questions so as to put me on the proper bicycle to accommodate my current state of fitness, as well as to help me to reach my goals. I gave him a price range and he stayed within it; he did not try to upsell me one bit! First, he fit me on a bike in the store to ascertain the size frame I needed. Then we picked out the bike for me and he ordered it. Next, we discussed accessories from seats to repair kits to helmets and gloves. My advice – do not skimp on the safety equipment – the gloves already saved my left hand (I am a surgeon) from a minor accident when I got too close to a wall! The gloves were torn – I received a minor abrasion so take a lesson from that! Neil has some super light, well ventilated helmets that give you the necessary protection without weighing you down. The bike arrived in two days as Neil had promised. It was assembled and ready for me on time. Neil then spent about a half an hour making sure the bike was a perfect fit and all adjustments were correct. We ended up changing out the seat for a different one. After Neil finished with me, Liam, one of his mechanics took over. I then spent the next 45 minutes learning how to dissemble the bike and change a flat tire while on the road using the emergency tool kit complete with CO2 cartridges and a spare inner tube that stows neatly behind the seat. I have been in the store several times since my purchase and I must say that it has always been an absolutely pleasurable experience. I give my absolute highest recommendations to anyone considering the purchase of a bicycle to visit Campus Bicycle in Stony Brook, NY.

I purchased my bicycle here 2 years ago. Since I got it, it has been nothing but trouble, needing constant adjustment to the derailer and gears. Even though the bicycle comes with a "2 year guarantee", there is often a reason to replace what I felt were perfectly good parts, especially given that I dont ride all that much and again, the bicycle is less than 2 years old. A few months back they told me I needed a complete set of rear gears and charged me accordingly, I questioned the costly repair but accepted their word. The last straw was today, when I dropped the bicycle off for yet another adjustment. I had been riding the bicycle for the past week or so, with about 6 available gears because the rear derailer wasnt shifting properly. It was shifting, but I didnt have access to the lowest 3-4 years on the 7 gear sprocket. I picked up the bicycle today and to my shock and amazement I was looking at a costly repair bill for the "rear derailer cable". They showed me a cable that supposedly came off my bicycle, the inner cable was completely rusted and frozen within the outer sleeve. I exclaimed "can you please explain to me how this cable could have shifted between 3-4 gears if it was completely rusted and frozen?!". To this they had no answer other than "maybe it rusted after you dropped off the bicycle". I angrily exclaimed that I had been riding this bicycle on partial gears for an entire week and dropped it off the day after I had last used it and that their explanation was simply impossible and that it was obvious to me that this could not possibly be the cable that came off my bike. It is my opinion that this shop is dishonest and bills their customers for parts they dont need. I will never, ever return to this shop and I discourage any one else from going there as well.

This is a very great place. They mostly sale Trek bikes, with a lot other bike accessories. The couple who owns the shop are very nice people. Workers there knows engineering very well. However, I only give them 4 star for some minor things that makes me disappointed. First, they only have super expensive things. I mean those things are not unreasonably expensive. Their price is high because they have great quality. However, for most of the time, I only want to spend a fair price on an average quality. Like for handle, I only want to spend 10 or 15 dollars, but when I entering the store, the cheapest one cost 20 dollars. So I wish they have more cheaper things. Second, their bike accessories are not universal. I wanted to buy a car mount, but they dont have the one fit my car and the universal one they have cost over 500 dollars. Bike kick stand also, they only have the one installed at the position under the paddle gear. I personally hate those kind, and they dont have a general one fits my bike, even though I bought my bike from them(Trek Marlin 5). So I have to buy the kick stand and car mount on amazon. Those only cost me 35 dollars total.

Terrible place, will never go back again. I bought a bike from campus bicycle (which was incredibly overpriced) only to find that it was not functioning properly. The brakes werent working properly and the seat was falling down whenever I adjusted it. Moreover they spent a lot of time convincing me it was the perfect bike for me but instead it couldnt handle my daily commute. After some time I got a flat tire and went in to get it fixed. I could change a flat tire on my own but I was in the area when it happened and wanted to get it fixed ASAP. They charged me $40 just to change the flat tire, which is a ridiculous price. I also bought headlight and back light, which on amazon went for around $30 but they charged me nearly $100! Incredibly overpriced, horrible service. I recommend to avoid at all costs.

Terrible, people in there are NOT FRIENDLY AT ALL! I was on a bike ride with my buddy and my fixed gear chain got loose. At first I was going to go to a gas station and borrow a wrench for a quick fix to just pull the tire back and tighten it back up; but i figured the bike shops right there. It costed me 10 dollars!! It literally took 2 minutes. I was going to give a 5 to the kid fixing it, but seriously? When I entered there was no good morning, hello, nothing. well the only good person was the maintenance kid, the owner and lady at the register were very rude. I cant believe theyre still in business. I would never buy my parts or equiptment there. I dont know how they get off for charging a fee like that for loosening a nut, blows my mind.
