I called this dealership to report a problem with my car that is actually a common problem with kia models from 2008-2014 for the the break light wiring. I was pulled over a couple weeks ago by a sheriff who told me that none of my break lights in the back were working and that it is most likely a wiring problem that has to be taken very seriously and this issue has to be fixed with in 24 hours because this problem can result in a life threatening situation. So I went to jiffy lube who said that it was the filiments in the light bulbs and it will be fixed once we change them. They changed them and then they couldnt get the car to shift out of park to drive it out of the garage. They manually shifted it to neutral and said youre fine to drive it but you will need to leave it in neutral and pull the e brake up to park it but that when I get the chance to bring it to a dealership to have it looked at but for now its safe to drive. I then drove it to work because I was already late and during my lunch break I asked a co worker to go with me to my car to tell me if the break lights were working and he said they were not. We decided to bring it across the highway to a mechanic and found out that the shifter was not going into reverse so the only 2 options were neutral and drive. We were told of a highly recommended mechanic at the coastal gas station by the name of Oly who said he will go and check it out and I handed him the keys. He called me to let me know that he was unable to start the car because the key would not turn in the ignition. He had to manually go in and start the car and then he was able to drive it to the coastal gas station where he repaired it. The end result of the problem was the brake wiring crossed then burnt at the crossing of two wires then burnt through the shifter to the fuse. The inability to shift gears was because you have to apply the brake before shifting and that mechanism was no longer working. He replaced and fixed the wiring and put in a new shifter and a new fuse. The car was good as new. The mechanic said that he knew exactly what to do to fix it because he does this all the time. He said it only happens with kias and not just any kia all of them across the board. I looked online and noticed that there is about a million recalls across the board for a lot of the kia models including the Kia Forte 4 door Sadan. My car is the 2010 Forte coupe. Same car but with 2 doors. My car was not on the list but the 4 door version was. When I called smithtown kia they asked what are you looking to do and I said Id like to get my money back and have my car put on to the recall list. They said its highly unlikely but you can call the kia head quarters and explain your situation. I called the 1800 number and they said that because I went to a private mechanic we cant even make a report about it and even if you went in and had the kia mechanic diagnose the problem and had it fixed it would still be a one time occurrence. He said that several complaints and several reports have to be written in order for the car to be put on the recall list. I was so angry! I said so what happens when consumers who have my same year and model of my car has this happen to them and it happens late at night in the pitch black? Peoples lives will be at stake because you are refusing to put this car on your recall list that already has recalled a million cars for this very same issue. They said it was the rules and the guidelines and that it has to happen to more than one vehicle.

Never again. All smiles until you start going against what they are selling. They pride themselves on "no pressure sales" yet I was pressured into buying a warranty which I did not want. I turned it down at least 5 times and spent over 2 hrs dealing with the "financial manager" who doesnt know finance. I asked for all my "fees" to be shown upfront and that never happened of course. Just to get me to the finance part to hit me with a $500 DVM fee which is usually $300, another vehicle inspection fee for $300, isnt that part of the DVM fee!??! And I caught them charging me for the tire fee of $12.50 which is for a new car only, really? I made them take that off. As for the warranty issue, it was either take the warranty and Ill get a lower interest rate or no warranty and take double my interest rate. Mind you that I have an excellent credit score and qualify for the prime rate which I told them from day one, "if Im not getting prime rate theres no reason for me to take a two hour drive to buy from you" and the finance manager said that wouldnt be a problem. I ended up taking the warranty and when I saw itemize contract, it had another $300 dollars on it for the "key replacement warranty" which was suppose to be part of the packaged warranty I was purchasing. Sneaky, Sneaky... that was another fight and another 300 I had to eat since the car was purchased and signed for already the finance manager said. If I had not driven 2hrs there I would of left with out purchasing it. The same night before leaving I signed the cancelation form for the stupid warrant I didnt want to buy and left it there. Then it took me over two week of calling every day (EVERYDAY) asking for some form of verification that the warranty was canceled. All I kept getting was the run around, the manager is not in, it was done we will send you a confirmation, the "lady" that takes care of the cancelation is out, etc. That it will take 6-8 weeks to cancel. WTF takes 6-8 weeks to cancel??? OH you want to cheat me out a couple bucks since the warranty will be prorated those two months huh? Finally the finance manager got fed up of me calling and gave into sending me an email confirming the warranty was canceled. RIDICULOUS! BEWARE OF THEIR FEES, THEIR SNEAKY. SMILES IN THE FRONT AND GRIMS IN THE BACK.

Great sales experience at Smithtown Kia I came to Smithtown Kia to look into buying the 2014 Kia Soul. I met Sales Manager Greg. He was really nice and I was surprised he wasnt what I expected, which was low as with some dealerships Ive had in the past. I just assumed someone in this position might be pushy or... something. He was courteous and friendly. He asked me a few basic questions and referred me to Rick, my salesman. The conversation with Rick was exactly the same as Greg. He wasnt pushy but just friendly as if the sale of a car was second to making sure I had every question answered. I made it known I was looking at other brands and he seemed happy I had shopped around. After zeroing-in on the Soul and a basic model he didnt even try to steer me away for an up-sell. He got it quickly and that was fine with him. He is very easy going. I said Id call him back in a couple of days after shopping further. On my way out the door Greg came by and asked if there was anything he could do for me and if I had any other questions or problems to call him direct. A few days later I called and told Rick we were interested in the model we looked at. We arranged an appointment to talk money. I always do my homework for these types of purchases. When we got together again we discussed the price and it really _much_ lower than I thought, judging by what I had researched. On top of that he said there were other discounts and unfortunately I only qualified for one. After a little more discussion we settled and a much lower price than I thought I would get. Deal Done! There really wasnt an adversarial haggling experience. I picked up my car today and Rick walked me through my new Soul. Just as I was leaving Greg came by to ask me if I had any questions or needed anything. I told him no. He said if there was anything that might up up just give him a ring. Rick said almost the exact same thing earlier. I was VERY happy with the whole shopping experience and the final signing of the paperwork/loan business etc. Smithtown Kia exceeded my expections. Bravo to them.
