This place is terrible, DO NOT use them! I dropped off my 2000 Honda Odyssey at the Mavis Tire, on Rt. 22 in Pawling NY, for a state inspection and a wheel alignment. I picked it up the next day. Driving home I noticed the steering pulled to the left and the steering wheel would shake when I applied the brakes. It didnt drive like that before I took it to Mavis. I had picked up the van around closing time so they were probably closed by then so I drove home. At home I noticed one of the front wheel lug nuts was missing, the stud broken off at the hub. The broken stud looked fresh (no rust). I tried loosing the lug nuts on the front wheels, over tightening the lug nuts can warp the disc rotors possible causing the wheel shake on braking. Whoever tighten the lug nuts must have torqued them to 300 or 400 pounds. With a breaker bar I was able to loosen several of the nuts, another of the studs broke off and some just would not move. I was afraid I was going to break the 1/2 inch breaker bar or shear the studs off. The ones I was able to get off had the threads all galled up. The next day I (slowly) brought the van back to Mavis. After a stupid conversation about why I tried to take the lug nuts off and maybe I had over tighten them myself they said they would replace the studs and lug nuts. When I called them to see if the van was ready Mavis said the were only able to locate 2 wheel studs from their suppliers (including the local Honda dealer). I spent about 15 minutes on the net and on the phone and found a place that had several boxes of them. I went and bought them and brought them to Mavis. I stayed and watched them replace the wheel studs. The Honda does not have a cut out the remove the studs from the wheel hub so you have to remove the hub from the bearing to change the studs. Mavis used a slide hammer to pull the hub out of the bearing. They used a hammer and then the axle nut and an impact driver to pull the hub back into the bearing. They also refused to pay me for the wheel studs I brought them. I have since gotten a Honda service manual. They should have removed the bearing carrier from the car and pressed the wheel hub in and out of the bearing, used a new axle nut and torqued it to 180 ft/lbs, to set the proper preload on the wheel bearing. A few months after Mavis "Worked" on the van both front wheel bearings failed, probably because the slide hammering ruined the bearing races or the fact that the axle nuts were not torqued properly. I now have my cars inspected at the Vavoline, close to where I work. They do not claim to be real mechanics but at least they use a torque wrench to put your lug nuts back on after inspecting the brake pads. The guys at Mavis are a bunch of gorillas with impact drives (with the torque set as high as it will go). If it was possible I wound give these guys 2 anti stars, they screw up the job and then made it even worse trying to fix it. If you value your car dont let them "work" on it!

Went there this past Saturday for tires and an alignment. I was going to replace my tires with the OEM tires with which it came, however, Fabio recommended going with a different brand he felt was more rugged, had better traction and would last longer despite the fact that the tire he was recommending was $25 less per tire than the one I called about. He could have made the higher sale, but chose to give the best advice. At the dealership, Eugene took care of me, providing GREAT customer service at a great price. He’s a credit to the company. I read the older reviews here complaining about overselling items during inspections and want to just say this: As a former mechanic, I will tell you that you get what you pay for in this world. Typical scenario: First mechanic tells you that, (1) to pass your SAFETY and emissions inspection, you need to replace your shocks or that (2) your tires are dangerously low on tread and must be changed, while Second mechanic tells you, "Ehhh... you really dont have to change them now" and passes the car anyway. Ask the Second mechanic “Whats going to happen when Im doing 65 miles per hour on I-84 and a deer decides to cross the highway?" My guess is he wont tell you that your worn shocks will cause the car to lean too far and those worn tires will just help the car slide as you try to avoid Bambi. The end result is, no matter how good a driver you are, your equipment is too worn to help you regain control and that car is leaving the roadway at a high rate of speed. A quality operation takes their duty to perform a proper safety inspection seriously. While there are certainly shysters out there taking advantage of the public, not everyone is trying to rob you. Fabio and Eugene are trustworthy, end of story. While I’m at it, same advice goes for buying the "cheapest" tires or the "cheapest" brakes. No one has the luxury of flushing money down the drain, but there are certain things on which you cannot skimp. In my opinion, I want to know what needs to be done, regardless of the cost, so I can make an informed decision on what to repair and with what “quality level” of parts to use. More often than not, the right part is somewhere between the cheapest and OEM. Be a smart consumer and do your research.

What happened to this place???? Used to be a great Mavis to go to when it first opened up until 1-1/2 years ago. Now you have a bunch of crooks in white shirts trying to convince you that your car needs things it doesnt all while doing shady things. Mavis headquarters really needs to re-think or re-evaluate who they use as salespeople/bosses at this pawling location. Never heard any problems when honest guys like joe and pat were there. Ive always used this Mavis from inspections to new tires but will now never go back or let anyone i know go there. Brought my 06 civic in for a flat repair. Next thing i know all 4 wheels are off and some dummy in a white shirt is telling me i need rear brakes and 4 new struts b/c they are "leaking". I promptly advised them to replace my wheels so i could leave. They must think everyone who comes in for service is uneducated when it comes to auto mechanics. I sat in the waiting area and listened to the boss tell customers they need this and that. A friend was also charged the full price for an alignment after being told they did no adjustments b/c it was fine. 87.00 wasted. Against my better judgement i brought a set of new aftermarket wheels in to have tires bought from them mounted/balanced on the new wheels i purchased and the car aligned. After dropping the car off for the entire day and coming at 430pm to pick it up with the wheels on it, i had to wait another 45mins for them to do them as the "were sooo busy the didnt get to them". I promptly paid and went home only later to realize they had charged me an additional "tire disposal fee" of 10.00 on my receipt for phantom used tires they did not remove off the new wheels. I also saw the salesman had written on the receipt that there was to be no gaurantee on work perfomed due to the car having aftermarket wheels/tires bought and installed from them. Of which they didnt even tell me, b/c if they had id have walked out. Ive heard so many stories of dissatisfied customers lately from this mavis......Do yourself a favor-----avoid this shop and go to a more honest trustworthy place.
