I would not recommend Sterling Optical in Ithaca. Rebecca, the store manager(?)s customer service is awful and she does not uphold policies clearly written on her stores receipt and on the stores website. She also does not take customer feedback kindly. She called me and I told her I had an awful experience and she told me that it was "funny" that I came into her store upset and then left with a new pair of glasses. She did not apologize for my awful experience at her store, like any good business person should do. Read below for more information. I went into Sterling Optical last Thursday (May 4, 2017). My glasses had broken and I needed a new pair. The lady at the front desk was very nice and doing her best to help, but the manager(?) of the store, Rebecca, was very unprofessional. I was trying to talk to her and instead of coming to the front to talk to me, she was yelling to me from her office in the back. Eventually, I did get a new pair of glasses from Sterling Optical, but was unhappy with how they looked. Both the receipt and the website said that while glasses cannot be returned, that store credit would gladly be issued regardless of the situation. I called the store on Monday (May 8, 2017) and they told me that store credit was only given if their was a defect with the glasses. I told the lady who answered the phone that the receipt said no such thing, nor did the website. That did not get me anywhere- she continued to tell me that the policy about store credit was only applicable if there was a defect with the glasses, but again the receipt nor the website did not support that. Again- Rebeccas customer service is awful (but at least her staff are friendly and try their best to help) and they do not uphold policies clearly written on their receipt and on their website.

Went there with a pair of glasses to have the frame straightened slightly. The attendant came back a minute later... with my glasses, broken in two. No, she had not just broken the frame: she had broken one of the lenses in two. She claimed that the lens had been cracked - I pointed out that it would have been extremely odd for neither I (who had been wearing the glasses) nor her to notice. Matters did not stop there. Of course I pointed out (clearly and politely) that I had arrived there with a pair of glasses, and had to leave with one. After some insistence, they agreed to read off the prescription, and said they could give me new lenses and a frame - at a cost of $80. (As you might expect, I was allowed to choose a frame from a small set of rather inexpensive ones - certainly cheaper than what I had given them. The person at the counter also misstated blatantly how much of a discount I was being given; these were not $300 frames, as she said - it was clearly stated in the price tag that these were between one third and one twelfth of that.) I had to leave town the next day on business, so I had no option but to pay up. It goes without saying that I will never go to this shop again, and that I would advise anybody else to stay away.

If it were an option, I would give sterling optical NEGATIVE stars. The receptionist at the front desk needs to learn how to work a clock, considering I called in well in advance to let her know I would be coming in close to closing time (that I was coming from an event) and I apologized for coming in closing time. So I come in running in a dress and heels through the Ithaca snow, and she apparently decided it was perfectly acceptable to close and leave before 9:00PM. WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU LEAVE EARLY WHEN A CUSTOMER CALLED IN ADVANCE?! Especially when the neighboring employees were kind enough to let me know she had left minutes prior. So needless to say, I will NEVER be back to Sterling Optical, even if they were the last eye glass company on earth, considering I am at home WITHOUT my glasses and will brave the Ithaca roads blind as a bat tomorrow morning to get my money back.

I have to agree with the other reviewers. I had read the reviews but since Sterling Optical was the closest place to where I live I decided to go head and go there. It was a very bad experience. They were very rude and pushed me very hard to buy something way beyond what I could afford. They kept saying if I didnt buy the top of the line I was cheating myself. Why do they bother having anything else to sell. I finally ask for my perscription and went else where and got the top of the line glasses for half of what they were selling them for.

My glasses took a bit too long to come in, in my opinion. I picked them up and they didnt make any effort to make sure they fit properly on my face. The glasses sit too low on my nose (I think the nose bridge is too wide) so reading is annoying/slightly blurrry. Ive gone back twice to try and fix it, but their efforts dont address the problem. For the price I paid I expect more knowledgeable customer service.

Do not go here. I had my glasses under guarantee and I ended up falling and they got really bent up. I went to get them fixed/replaced and recieved the run around to the extreme. For what I paid, I was already slightly dissatisfied with the service and length of time it took to get my glasses. This is just ridiculous! Now I have to pay even more (to a new place). Not recommended!

Was great with them until a month ago. My daughters frames broke and she needed them replaced. Sterling has yet to call me and set up an appointment for new frames. I called my insurance and they informed me that when Sterling is sending in the bill that they are not putting the note on it that its just frames. Not new frames and glasses. People are incompetent!

Got some residual pepper oil on my last pair of contacts taking them out... Sterling was friendly, offered a free pair of trail contacts while my next day shipping order came in, and price matched. Couldnt ask for more. New to the area and my first time using them, but Ill definitely be back.

Poor service. Unhelpful. Go somewhere else. I went back to have some problems corrected (several times) and was told there was no one available to help that day. But... they do have a one year warranty, no questions asked. I ended up getting a new pair.

Ive went here for years, and have never had a problem. Glasses and contacts have always either been ready the same day or I was warned beforehand if I had to wait. Prices have always been reasonable, and staff has always been polite.

They no longer take medicaid because it was too much work for them. Are you kidding me. They told to to drive to camillius. If I wanted to drive an hour and a half do you think I would go there instead. Total dush bags
