Exceptional customer service & knowledge. Ill confess, Im particular, VERY particular. Having ridden road bikes over 30 years (dozens of century rides, 5 time finisher of the "Death Ride"...) Im passionate about cycling. My challenge was I wanted to get my daughter her 1st bike, and wanted to ensure her experience helped her fall in love with cycling and the joy it gives us throughout our lives, the habit of exercise, longer life expectancy, improved health, etc. Eric Chernoff listened, understood, & was an extremely capable partner in this process. He thought through the fundamentals, asked great questions, offered solutions I hadnt considered. Eric spent considerable effort making sure her bike was safe & fit very well. Result - my daughter LOVES her new bike. Every inch of that bike, and every bearing has been thoroughly gone over and perfectly adjusted to give not only a pleasurable experience for her, but long life for the bike. My lifes experience reveals their are 2 kinds of bike shops - 1 with young kids working there because they want the employee discount, and the more rare shop where everyone in the area who races bikes goes to for service & sales (where "The Knowledge" is). This shop is the latter. Why not buy a bike from a big box store you ask? My reasons are 1) To ensure you will have an amazing experience with your bike and actually use the bike (that is what you want, isnt it?) 2) you WON"T be fixing a bike "assembled" poorly. Whats the value of having a great experience with your bike? Think. Evaluate differences. You will be rewarded for your effort. Eric has earned my trust. There are closer shops for me, but Its worth the drive. Oh, and YES, she fell in love. Thank you Eric.

High Gear Cyclery repair service is so fantastic. They are great and they genuinely care. I am not sure how the owner has pulled this off, but every worker at High Gear seems to be completely nuts about cycling. I have been to the repair shop twice with a bike that I bought off the web and both times, they have fixed my problem immediately. I was so happy with their work (Bogdan Stankiewicz is a modern day MacGyver. He can fix anything) that when my bike from the internet finally broke down, I gladly went into their store and gave them my business. My wife then bought an expensive bike from them as well. Each time I visit the service shop for random items, they are incredibly helpful. Additionally, they inflated my tires, and trued-up the wheels while they were at it. It is great to go into a store where everyone is so interested in cycling and able to solve any issues. You can buy your bike anywhere, but with Bontin and the service group fixing any issues that may arise, High Gear Cyclery is the best place to buy your bike.

I've always found High Gear to be incredibly customer friendly. Firstly, if you buy your bike there, all tuneups for the life of the bike are free. I had a bike stolen once and they helped me replace the bike quickly, while also offering a reduced price on the replacement. I have had shoe fitting issues which they have handled with no problem by replacing them for me. As for the prices of the bikes, they are expensive because they don't sell the cheapest incarnatione of the bikes. They usually start with one or two levels above the lowest because the components are better components. While some employees have, at times, been less than completely friendly, I've found them generally to be extremely helpful, non judgmental, and incredibly knowledgable. GO HERE!!!

This is by far the best bike shop Ive ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I purchased my bike 9 years ago from them. Lifetime adjustments and oiling is great!! Roan, the owner at the Stirling location, is just the most genuine and friendly individuals. The mechanics are helpful and explain what they are doing. Recently I called the Millburn store and had a great conversation with an employee. He answered all my questions and gave great advice. Im in the market for a high end road bike and will buying it here no doubt.

Disappointing service experience. Spent $240 for major tune up -- new cables, tires, chain, etc. After a few weeks, the cables stretched and High Gear says itll cost me another $35 to adjust them again. I would expect that if the store puts on parts they know will need adjusting in a few weeks, this should be part of the original price tag. Although $35 wont break the bank, its annoying to find out I have to keep paying and paying to get the job right.

Awful!! I wish I could give this place 0 stars. Just bought a bike there for my daughter yesterday. She rode less than 100 yards and its falling apart. I dont think one screw or nut has been tightened on this thing. Im amazed that they would let a bike roll out the door in this condition. Brakes, handlebars, training wheels all loose. This is ridiculous. My kid could have been seriously hurt.

This is the go to shop. John and the crew are very helpful. A special shout out to the guys in the back repair shop room. They are awesome and are always busy helping others get back on the road. What a great bunch. A very special thank you to Juan for taking the time and having great patience with building my bike from parts to full build. Thanks Juan! Enjoy the IPA ;)

Need better customer service. My wife and I went to the store and planned to get couple of new bikes. They seemed to be busy helping other customers, so we walked around to browse. After 15 minutes in the store, not a single person stop by to greet or help us. I think there were four employees working in the shop at that time. We are taking our business elsewhere.

I have used this shop for purchases and repairs for over 15 years. they have always been very helpful, and are as knowledgeable as any shop I have ever seen. I have been a bike racer for over 20 years and have interacted with many bike shops. this one is excellent!

Back for new tire, brakes with no appt on busy Weds. In 20 mins on my way (incl recalibrated brakes, gears and oiled chain). Low key, personal, professional which is why I gladly travel from Bergen Cty.

Decent shop. Best service in the area for repairs. service is top notch. However, they are pricey on buying new bikes. Great place to turn for assitance or opinions but not for buying new bikes.
